Crystal Palace have three new signings hoping to make their debuts against Plymouth Argyle, who are without summer recruit Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Midfielder Darren Ambrose is expected to start following his switch from London rivals Charlton, while striker Freddie Sears should also feature following his loan move from West Ham.

Experienced striker Stern John could also make his Eagles bow after rejecting a new deal with Southampton to sign for Neil Warnock's side.

One player who will not play any part for Palace is former Derby defender Claude Davis, who has agreed terms with the London club but is awaiting a work permit.

The Eagles came through their pre-season campaign without any injuries, so Warnock will have a fully-fit squad to select from.

Plymouth news

Plymouth make the trip to Selhurst Park for their opening Championship game of the season without the services of Wright-Phillips.

The striker - signed on a free transfer from Southampton earlier this summer - suffered a knee injury in a behind-closed-doors game and is set to be ruled out for six weeks.

It is the second injury blow for Argyle ahead of the game, as centre-back Chris Barker is sidelined with a torn calf muscle.

Wright-Phillips' place is likely to go to on-loan Blackburn forward Alan Judge - who joined Plymouth earlier this week - while new centre-back Reda Johnson, signed from French club Amiens last week, is poised for his debut in the back four.

Former Palace midfielder Carl Fletcher - who joined Argyle at the start of the summer from the Eagles - is set to feature for Paul Sturrock's side.

Venue: Selhurst Park
Date: Saturday, 8 August
Kick-off: 1500 BST
Coverage: BBC Sport website, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC local radio, Final Score & highlights on The Football League Show

TEAM NEWS
Crystal Palace's three summer signings are all set to feature.
Winger Darren Ambrose and striker Stern John are in contention, while on-loan West Ham youngster Freddie Sears is also in the Eagles squad.
Plymouth defender Chris Barker (calf) and striker Bradley Wright-Phillips (knee) have been ruled out.
Summer signing Wright-Phillips is set to be replaced by on-loan Blackburn forward Alan Judge. Carl Fletcher and Reda Johnson are in line for debuts.

MATCH PREVIEW
Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock enjoyed his spell as Plymouth manager so much he intends to move back to the south-west when he retires.

Before that happens, Palace hope he can guide them to a promotion challenge. He has certainly pulled off a coup with the loan signing of Freddie Sears, who is set to make his debut.
Paul Sturrock's own return to Devon has been difficult. The Scot, in his second spell as Argyle boss, narrowly kept them up last season but will struggle to do so again if the bookmakers are to be believed.
The loss of Bradley Wright-Phillips for around six weeks is a blow, but Fletcher - signed from Palace - has plenty of Championship experience and Sturrock was also able to sign centre-back Reda Johnson from French club Amiens last week.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
• There is nothing to choose between these clubs in all competitions; both sides have won 20 of 47 league and cup clashes.
• Plymouth have the edge in league meetings, winning 19 and losing 18, with seven draws.
• These clubs have not drawn a league clash in 12 meetings since a goalless affair on 11 April 1987 in the old Second Division.
Crystal Palace
• Neil Warnock, at 60, is the oldest manager in the Championship and faces the club he guided to promotion via the play-offs in 1996.
• Calvin Andrew could make his 100th club career appearance.
Plymouth
• Since promotion in 2004, Plymouth have not finished higher than 10th in the Championship, and last season avoided relegation by one place.
• Argyle have not lost an opening-day fixture since 2002.
• Carl Fletcher may face his former club.

Makes me have early doubts about their The Football League Show if this is how it's going to be.

Neil Warnock does not expect Crystal Palace's poor end to pre-season to have any impact once the Championship kicks off tomorrow.
Palace open up against Plymouth Argyle at Selhurst Park after two defeats in two pre-season games at home against League One side's Norwich City and Gillingham.
Warnock admits Plymouth probably fancy their chances after those performances but does not believe they will have any bearing once the whistle is blown.
"The last two games haven't been good but overall it's been a very good pre-season," he said.
"I imagine if Plymouth had seen us the last couple of games they would be rubbing their hands with glee but it's a different ball game when the season starts.
"We are going to have to battle for everything we get, there will be some games that are not so pretty, but you have to try and come out with points and I expect Saturday to be the same.

Am I just being a pessimist or are the signs already there??
Out of all the friendlies played during the close season we only lost two!!
Both at home!!
I am aware that any team coming to Selhurst will be trying to push us hard
but this is not a good sign. You could say that all the new boys have got to settle in etc. but Freddie sears has had a poor start to his Palace loan spell.
Anyone else got any thoughts??

Welcome back to a new season. At the start of the season We were in 6th place, let's hope we can do that or better by the end of the season. We can't have another mediocre season.

Jesus Fücking Christ I know that the 'developers' of Palace World are the most useless retarded cünts that have ever claimed to be professionals (they still can't do cookies) but this is surely a new low even for that fücktard bunch.

At least the content is professional and enjoyable even if the 'service' provider couldn't run a piss-up in a brewery (and, yes, I do pay for a subscription every year and don't rely on Skype'ing in to someone else so I'm allowed to bitch about the incompetence).

I've been trying all morning to pay my subs with my Visa card, but nothing is accepted just like last year when the free link stopped. Authentification failed bla bla bla. When this happened last year, I contacted customer service and IIRC they said they weren't giving subs at the end of the season to people living abroad for whatever reason. It's not the end of the season yet, is it?
Any help would be apppreciated.

It isn't Palace that made Palace Player, all the clubs have [team name] Player.

I know that. The majority of league clubs use a reskinned version of a generic format (complete with a bunch of advertisements for gambling sites for all visitors - including those under 18 who shouldn't be shown such items). It's the ineptness of those developers of the base site that pisses me off. That Palace chooses to align themselves with such useless retards is no surprise at all.

Not there today, first opening day game I have missed since 1960 and not purchased a season ticket, first time since 69' reasons as stated on other post's. I can hear the game as less than a mile from Selhurst, from the bedroom window can see upper tier Holmesdale looking sparse. In addition the road has very few extra cars parked, plenty of space, which is most uncommon for league homes games in the last 20+ years. Of course it is summer holiday time, bur you can feel the tension in the air and concern. We know a lot of people have said they will not be going this season, but from what I can see today that threat looks like a promise.

Still fingers crossed we can claw this back, vital we get off to a good start.

Why doesn't NW just shift Hill into the middle of the defence and play Hills at LB?Because he has built a shrine in worship of Lawrence ?
