View Full Version : Raising Money By Getting Our Ground Sponsored?

Scrumpy
20-08-2009, 07:04 AM
I was just thinking of ways Palace could raise some much need cash without having to sell off our best assets.

How about if the club explored the avenue of getting Selhurst Park sponsored and renamed (e.g. like Bolton's Reebok Stadium). I know this may not be everyone's cup of tea, having our home games at "The Croydon Advertiser Stadium" or something similar. But surely this would bring a much needed cash boost?

Or because we don't actually own our own ground this wouldn't be possible?

Actually that wouldn't be a problem. If the club got naming right for the stadium then under the terms of the lease they would certainly be able to keep the money for the length of the lease (about 24 years left).

The bigger problem would be finding a sponsor. If it raised money I would be all for it - we would just carry on calling it Selhurst Park whatever it was called.

Appologies for yet another stadium thread I've started.

Should we been considering this? Newcastle have and now Chelsea are considering it. Would we be allowed to as we don't own the ground. If we were to build our own new ground it would almost certainly be sponsored for the next 15 years or so. So should we be cashing in on it now? We are desperate it would seem.

You're not wrong that it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. I suppose if we had to go down this road then the Croydon Advertiser Stadium would be better than most and it might bring in a tenner a year.
