Someone asked for these on the Palace 1976 thread. This was the game played at Selhurst Park in front of 51,000 fans - Ian Walsh and Dave Swindlehurst scored to clinch Palace's first ever Division Two Championship (which took Palace into Division One - the top division in those days).
The goals were recorded on a Betamax Recorder from the ITV News the same evening. I still have my original tape (which also have the 'Big Match' highlights of the Notts' county game and the Orient game leading to the nail biting finale).
I first prepared these clips about 2 years ago.
Here is the Ian Walsh opening goal.

One word of warning: This next one is a very big file (1.06mb) - it includes Swindlehurst's 1979 goal against Burnley and the crowd invasion at the final whistle.
Great memories for those of us who were at the game.

James, the second link isn't working.
Great memories indeed - I wasn't there because I was living in Brussels at the time, but I was listening to the game on the radio and can clearly remember drinking a bottle of champagne to celebrate! I even have a photograph of my son, who was about 18 months old at the time asleep in his cot wearing a CP scarf and bobble hat (and no, I am not Trolley)

What a night that was. I was standing behind the wall in the Whitehorse Lane end. Still have the scarf my old mans mate gave me after the match.

Sorry Gavin - you are right. The second goal has gone. I'll have to hunt it down.
Apologies to all.

Fantastic night.
I had a season ticket in the Old Stand then with my Father but I wanted to stand on the Holmesdale for this one. I remember looking accross to the gap between the Whitehorse and the Old Stand during the match and seeing what appeared to be thousands more people outside the ground for the whole 90 minutes.
The pitch invasion was amazing with a reported 25,000 people on the pitch after the final whistle, all celebrating wildly.

Correct Gavin we did take the ground over. Swindlehurst scored with a great header. I will always remember the ovation Jacko got when he ran to the end where the bulk of the Palace fans were , and the ground announcer wishing us all the best against Burnley.

I did prepare an mpg clip of Swindle's goal against Orient (with big John Jackson in the Orient goal), but I have no idea where it is now.
As soon as I find some time, I will prepare another mpg clip and post it here.
If anyone wants to request a specific goal, please give me as much information as possible (especially the year - but if possible the exact date). I have a huge library of archive goals, but I am afraid that many of the classics which we remember from the 70s and earlier were never recorded.

On the subject of that game - who remembers the excitement when we thought that Sunderland had lost, and that we were already up? Unfortunately there were a couple of late goals, so Sunderland and Brighton both won ... and we had to wait until the following Tuesday evening.
What memories! Can it really be over 20 years ago?

I was behind the Whitehorse Lane wall too. My cousin and I worked our way down to the front by the end of the second half and then onto the pitch. I can still remember 'old' men dancing on the pitch. What a great night!
I went straight from school, still in uniform, aged 15. Spent most of the game off my feet as the crowd sawyed.
Managed to get home, change and on to the Greyhound in Carshalton for a few beers which I threw up on the walk home.
Ahh, happy days!

My brother (not a Palace fan) happened to be over from Oz for the Cup Final the next day, got to Selhurst hours before kick-off, saw the game, and rang me back in Oz right away with the result.

I could have sworn that the Burnley game was on the Friday evening James, not Tuesday.

Yes, my mistake. It was on the 11 May and I was married on the 19th May - 8 days later and on a Saturday.
