Agreed.

Watched the game with a couple of City mates of mine.

As we attcked in the last minute & the commentator wondered whether we'd get a consolation, one of them said "go on they deserve it" not to me, just out loud in general!

No need to be downhearted tonight!

Great display all round. Support, (although a little lower than expected), and chants were excellent particularly "Reject" and "Shite Maradona", this is what makes me smile and proud to be Palace.

No allowance for signing on fees. The imbalance would also be profound if we considered wages.

Hill was around 100,000 wasn't he ? Anyway just one of their players cost 10 times our whole squad. It puts into perspective how well the boys played to compete and the first goal looked on telly like Mcarthy was obstructed (through bleary eyes).

I really enjoyed last night, it was great seeing our bunch compete with the billionaires of City and our fans were great, a class above City.

I'm not jealous of City & their money, they are heading to a completely different world from us as a football club. The thing is they will probably leave a load of the original City fans behind them and I wouldn't want that with Palace.

Yes it is and Platinni (sp) is quoted this morning as saying he would like to introduce a system where all clubs have to balance the books every season.

A commited performance and a good atmosphere despite a pitiful overall attendance.

All that will do is further entrench the usual suspects and prevent clubs that got lucky like City, from challenging the four-club "old firm" - is that any sort of improvement ?

Bigger, much more valuable teams will get beaten much more convincingly than we were by that starting 11 - FACT.

Maybe clubs like City could, at the start of the season, charge their chairman (or whoever their benefactors are) £xxx millions for a box and that way the cash would be in the club.

Also, they said 14,000 odd last night, it looked like more, maybe 16,000. Was the attendance figure 'edited' so that we dont have to pay Noads as much?

Just when salaries look like levelling, in comes another mental moneybags at a different club, and all of a sudden the top players can demand yet another £20,000-a-week increase - and even mediocre Premier League reserve players get further out of reach for clubs like Palace.

Fair enough, but look at it this way: If, after 2-3 years of austerity/NW working miracles etc, we finally get a new owner with a few bob to spend extending the youngsters contracts and bringing in a good Champs striker, how would you feel about UEFA vetoing it because it would "take us above our turnover" ?

And of course, it wouldn't stop the corrupt shenanigans at clubs like Fake Madrid.

Ironically although that City team was put together at vast expense how many of them would actually be wanted by any of the curent top 4 ? Not many is the answer, Arsenal were more than happy to let Toure & Adebayour go. SWp never got a look in at Chelsea, & when he did seemed well below the required standard. Tevez ? Doesn't score enough for me, & apparently Ferguson, certainly not worth the £30 million + they actually paid for him (who showed him as a free ???), Robinho ? Chelsea may have wanted him last summer, having actually seen him play regularly I don't think they'll be knocking on that door again any day soon.
Arguably the only 2 players from last night who would start games regularly for any of the top 4 teams are Given & Barry.

Oh & I meant to say if we can play like that , with that spirit more often than not, we're going to have a fine season. Where was that spirit against Newcastle though ? When it seemed to me we expected to be beaten before the kick of. But we played really well last night, hope that's the spring board for the season.

I'm so pessimistic about the state of football that that is a price I'd be prepared to pay. The way things are going we'll be destined for permanent life in Division 3 or 4, if we don't go out of business first.

Football in this country is dead as a competitive sport already. Don't let suicidal finance kill the clubs as well.
