Captain Shaun Derry has urged Crystal Palace to carry their form the game against Manchester City into Monday's trip to Peterborough United.

The Eagles may have lost 2-0 to City on Thursday night but gave a spirited performance, causing their opponents a number of problems and having 15 shots.

However, they come back down to earth with a bump on Monday with a trip to London Road and Derry is urging his colleagues to repeat their performance from the Carling Cup, despite the huge gap between the two opponents.

"With no disrespect to Peterborough its chalk and cheese at times," he said.

"You are not going to come up against opponents like City week in week out but what we've got to do is take it into Monday's game and realise we can play like we can against these top players and reproduce it.

"What you find in the Palace dressing room is a real honest group of players and we realise the bread an butter is winning the league games.

"Believe it or not we are also looking forward to being on Sky again on Monday showing people what we are about and getting three points."

Derry also admitted his surprise that a Premier League club has yet to bid for goalkeeper Julian Speroni, who produced another fine performance against City.

"I am surprised there hasn't been a bid," he said.

"He's a great goalie.

"I've played with a number of good ones in the past and he is right up there.

"Who knows what is going to happen though?

"We don't want to court bids for him but we know everybody has their price.

"Julian wins us games single-handedly at times and he's a great goalie to have, a great guy as well."

Derry the salesman ;)

Good to see though he, as captain, realises that if we can play like that once we should be able to do it more often and it counts against teams like Peterborough more.

Why the comments about Speroni? If we lost him and did not get another keeper we would let in a shed load of goals. Fonte was also immense, why not try and push him as well?

Because he probably wasn't asked aboout Fonte.

When managers and players are quoted in most newspapers they are doing so in answer to reporters' questions. Reporters often come with their own news agendas and want to use players to add fuel to their fire.

Given the right to say 300 words about the Peterborough game, in his own words, Derry would probably not have mentioned Speroni at all.

In all likelihood the journalist asked him if he was surprised that Speroni hadn't attracted transfer interest, following his performance last Thursday and over a longer period. In reponse he then gave an honest assessment and it has been interpreted as if Derry is trying to flog Speroni before tomorrow's deadline. It's a shame that some people, on here, as elsewhere, take it too seriously.

Does anybody seriously think that on the basis of some statement by Shaun Derry in some obscure newspaper that premier league managers are going to be watching toaday's game with their pens quivering over their chequebooks?

Too many people get themselves worked up about how players are quoted, without putting the quotes into perspective. Its too often the journalists agenda, to stir up contoversy and sell papers.

Why else do you think that so many people who have had dealings with the press complain so loudly and long about how they have been misquoted/quoted out of context etc.

The relationship between so many people in the public eye and journalists is a Faustian pact. We, as mere spectators, are the ones who get conned as the principals get some of what they want from the process.

I think that everyone at our club knows everyone is up for sale, every interview by warnock highlights it.Other clubs know our situation and crap late bids will come in.One of more of our jewels will probably leave for a pittance. But i hope not.
