I don't know really. I think it's usually once a woman gets over 40 it becomes a bit of an issue.
But equally, I have known men to be just as bad, if not worse.

and i would contend that every human being is a racist as we see people in racial terms and think that, as we were born in a place, the people of that place are the best
and its a throw away insult these days so relax

It's different with men though.
Most men seem to become more attractive the older they get, and aren't usually on the end of age jokes.
Women often are the opposite. As far as a lot of people on the BBS is concerned, you're over the hill once you're over 40 (women, I mean).
Plus, of course, why should people need to know someones age?

Well, I for one think i look worse than i did 10 years ago, so that can't be it. There's some lovely over 40's ladies out there too, so that can't be it either surely. Age jokes are the same for men or women.
I personally like to know peoples age on here to build my mental picture of them, as I know so few BBSers. My mental image of you for example has changed greatly over time!

Let's make up
Two Arabs boarded a shuttle out of Washington for New York. One sat in the window seat, the other in the middle seat. Just before takeoff a fat, little Israeli guy got on and took the aisle seat next to the Arabs. He kicked off his shoes, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the Arab in the window seat said, "I think I'll go up and get a coke."
"No problem," said the Israeli. "I'll get it for you." While he was gone, the Arab picked up the Israeli's shoe and spit in it. When the Israeli returned with the coke, the other Arab said, "That looks good. I think I'll have one too."
Again, the Israeli obligingly went to fetch it, and while he is gone the Arab other picked up the other shoe and spit in it. The Israeli returned with the coke, and they all sat back and enjoyed the short flight to New York.
As the plane was landing the Israeli slipped his feet into his shoes and knew immediately what had happened.
"How long must this go on?" he asked. "This enmity between our peoples..... this hatred... this animosity... this spitting in shoes and peeing in cokes?"
