View Full Version : Team News for Derby game

There will be changes, as there would have been, had the QPR game gone ahead.
McCarthy back in contention after his one game ban.
Claude Davis has a hamstring strain, picked up in training last week.
He is two weeks away at least, but he might be left to recover until after the International break to give him time to return to full fitness.
Victor picked up a knock this week but should be okay.
The biggest problem seems to be Nathaniel Clyne who has a back injury. He has not trained this week, so will not be available for saturday.
Freddie Sears has a badly swollen ankle, fortunately the scan has shown no ligament damage so he could be back in a week or so. Unlikely to play saturday though.
No Matt Lawrence as he is now on the transfer list (it's on the official site so now I can add this).
Captain Shaun Derry plays his 500th career game on saturday - give him a big cheer!
We need a bit of a boost after last week.
Really get behind the team on saturday!
Nobody likes to lose and we're all in this together. A win will bring the confidence back. They'll be trying their hardest, we the fans, need to do the same.:p

So McCarthy back in, but otherwise the same back 4 :(

Guess only other changes likely are Carle and Scannell in for N'Diaye and Ambrose

the options open for change look limited then Bad news re Clyne and Sears especially

Good news on Sears

edit - I see The Charmer disagrees - I was just worried he was going to be out for a lot longer as seemed possible at first.

Lee Hills really should be given a start at left back.

Id expect Carle to start for Danns and Scannell for Ambrose.

Best selection will be NOT to water the pitch five minuted before kick-off, players might be able to stay upright then.

Not if he's negotiating with an Aussie club

Paddy back for Lawrence
Carle for N'Diaye
Danns on left wing
Moses up front with Lee

Would agree, but I'm not sure Danns is made for that role. He's hustle, but I can't see him being especially effective outside of the centre. So, Smith.

With a bit of luck we will stop cocking around with a 433 formation and play 44 bloody 2 which is far more solid for a team like us.

I would love to know what the team on Tuesday would have been!

Can assume it wouldn't have included Clyne and Sears?

We can assume a back 4 of:

Hill
Mccarthy
Fonte
Butterfield

because there is no-one else fit who is in realistic contention.

Add Speroni, Derry and Lee, so that's 7 places. The other 4 are up for grabs. Scannell will definitely start, so then there are 3 more places and to be honest it could be any 3!!

Never mind who is in the starting 11.
Lets get behind the boys!

Playing at home is supposed to be an advantage.

Ain't that the truth.

I was going to come and shake your hand last week (after a BBSer pointed out to me who you were), but then you left.

I'd like to see Moses down the middle. I'd play:

Speroni
Butterfield Fonte Mccarthy Hill
Scannell Ambrose Derry Carle
Lee Moses

And tell Scannell to supprt the forwards, and Ambrose and Carle to provide the ammo.

I like the thought of Victor taking N'Diaye's place and Carle starting on the left.

Although I can see flaws with that as well...

Its all pointless, Carle should be playing in the middle, I'd give Ambrose a rest and play him in the middle with Danns, then again people will say Derry is undroppable but I'd like to see it.

I don't think Derry deserves dropping. Last season he did, but he's done well so far, since his shoulder has been sorted out.

Not much chance of him being dropped for his 500th game, anyway.

We seem to be in the minority because i think he should be dropped to but there we go. All about opinions this game.
Regardless of who plays - the players need to show a very good display

I wonder if Hills may get a start on the left either in defense of midfield? He had a good game in the 9-2 reserve win...according to the official website.

i'd like to see the following based on the team news.

Speroni

Butts Mccarthy Fonte Hill

Scannell Derry Carle Smith

Moses
Lee

Give moses a free role and room to roam, he will start scoring goals and plenty of assists. Then we can replace lee with sears in the future and carle and moses can bomb forwards whilst derry holds the fort, and smith and scannell can use their pace to get on the through balls supplied!

Derry is one of the main reasons we persist with 4-3-3; 4-4-2 doesn't suit him.

A holding midfielder isn't always necessary, especially at home. Carle and Danns were excellent in a 4-4-2 against Birmingham last season.

......Danns Derry Carle.....
.....Scannell Lee Moses......

Maybe start Smith, even for Victor.

Ambrose looks knackered/unfit.

Going to be interesting tomorrow, to see how the team reacts to last week & how the supporters treat the team. Hopefully, we will score first so the fans get behind the lads. I'd love to see a 442 formation but, we know that isn't going to happen.

in the circumstances think I'd go

GK Speroni
RB Butterfield, CB Fonte, CB McCarthy, LB Hill

RM Ambrose, LM Smith
CAM Danns,
CF Moses (in the hole)
CF Lee

Subs, blimey....Scannell, Hills, Carle, N'Diaye,

Derby have signed pacy striker James Vaughan from Everton in time to play tomorrow. His pace will upset all the players we have that are likely to feature in our back line.

I would play Derry - a Nottingham lad playing his 500th game - against Derby. No more motivation required.

Didn't Smith also have a spell at Derby?

If everyone bar Stern John, Freddie Sears and Claude Davis were fit my team would be :

Speroni
Butterfield Fonte McCarthy Hill
Clyne Derry Ertl Ambrose
Lee Scannell

Subs : Carle, Danns, Moses, Smith, Hills, N'Diaye

Bang on IMO, could also mix it up from time to time with Vic and Scannell switching, anythings worth a go at the moment, but what are the chances...?

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed that. Watering when they've all done their warm up and worked out which studs they need is daft. I know it's all "if" but if Lawrence hadn't slipped and left Butterfield exposed we wouldn't have conceeded an early goal. Who knows what a difference that might have made.

It would seem that I'm the only one who got it.
Confirmed by Neil yesterday, so I think you can take it as given!

Neil also gave the clearest hint yet that next season might not be his last at the club!
Much will depend on new investment into the club, but he has not ruled out extending his current deal which goes to the end of the 2010/11 season. Not sure he's quite ready for the quiet life in Cornwall. Watch this space!

If we switch to 442 I'd like to see something like this. Maybe put Lee Hills on for Clint as he hasn't seemed as commanding at the back this season.

Oh and as someone else mentioned, i've no problem with watering the pitch before kickoff but can someone remind player to put studs on (or longer studs). Palace players seemed to be slipping and sliding all over the place.

This is the first time I'm listening to Palace World this season. Is it just for this game that commentary is from Palace Radio or BBC is not providing the commentary anymore?

Can explain why BBD was nowhere to seen on match days as he would be much busier.

PS: Oops! wanted to post it on Match day thread not on this one. But BBD whereabouts can be a team news story, can't it?
