View Full Version : Ugliest ever Palace player?

Fat Andy posted this on another thread...

"...if I recall she was a dam sight uglier than Perry Suckling ! more along the lines of David Burke"

So I thought well, as we're doing best ever, worst ever stuff quite a lot at the moment, how about "Ugliest Palace player ever"?

Perry Suckling was a good-looking bloke if I recall and whilst Burke was not Adonis, I doubt he'd be the ugliest ever?

I'll kick off with Mike Flanagan - he looked more like a bloke who knocks on your door and asks if you want your drive asphalted than a footballer.

Come to think of it he played more like a bloke who asphalts drives than a footballer too!

Dowie was a boiler but at least he looked quite presentable off the pitch.

Lee Sinnott.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I give you exhibit A - Ivano Bonetti, a man so ugly he has to tie a bone around his neck so his dog will play with him. He has a face that looks like it has melted.

I can't believe there's been no mention of this handsome fellow!

Yes indeed, are him and Sinnott related?

Can you believe my ex shagged him a few weeks before she met me? She was only 17 at the time as well. And he was married. But he scored a good goal though, didn't he http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif

And also what about wierdy beardy Sasa Curcic? He wasn't exactly a looker. My mate saw him in Croydon High Street once and shouted "Oi Ugly". When Curcic turned around my mate cried "Not you, you're fecking ugly".

Funniest quote from Sasa when asked about his pending marriage

"Why not, I'm a good looking bloke...!"

But Dowie never scored at Wembley, did he?... oh, I see...

Did she become your ex when you found out, or was this why you went out with her (trophy girlfriend?)

And while we're on the subject ... when he tried to curl it in from outside the box did it always hit the target so sweetly?

Paul Warhurst - he missed the evolution to homo sapien and retains distinctly ape-like features.

When they say "utility player" they mean he can swing from branches better than any other!

Lee Sinnott was much uglier than Hopkin - he looked like a throwback to the players you see in 1930s team photographs - the ones that didn't put their dentures in before the picture was taken.

Who was our ugliest manager? I think this must be between Bert Head, Dick Graham and Ernie Walley (he wasn't around long enough for me to remember the spelling).

Oh pity! How can anyone be uglier than Hopkin??? No teeth, freckles to the full, big eff off jug ears & bright orange hair!

Roy Barry? Fierce looking cove, as I recall.

Jimmy Scott was no oil painting either.

Well, perhaps "Whistlers Mother"!

Surely there can have been no uglier manager,in all senses of the word, than Arse Mullery.
Remember him loosing an argument against Big Mal on "The Big Match" once and saying something like "I know more about football than you because I've got 45 England caps"

Gooders has just cracked me up.I came face to face with both Jim Scott and Roy Barry in my young autograph hunting days, and neither of them looked too clever-they were scary.Roy Barry was a real hard case, although I read in Alan Hudsons autobiography that when Barry came down from Scotland to play for Coventry,he was determined to prove that he was now the hardest player in England, and decided to prove it against Ron "Chopper" Harris of Chelsea.Harris had other ideas though, and hacked Barry down within about a minute of the first whistle, and for good measure, stamped on his face and hand. Those were the days.

Ugliest official = Wendy Toms

Looks like her face was on fire and someone put it out with a shovel.

Although this is heresy- has anyone seen the state of Kenny Sansom these days? Not ugly in the Dowie obvious way but damn unattractive all the same.

Gooders - have just read all this, thanks, and just in case my first shag ever reads this, she certainly wasn't as ugly as Bonetti,Dowie etc. David Burke - maybe though, although she did look more like Jim Cannon in the facial hair department.

David Payne was always the one, especially when he grew that blonde moustache! Also John Craven had an "interesting" face. Damn fine players tho'!

David Payne? When my stepmother saw him on a televised Palace game she commented "nice looking boy", which suited him exactly: he was the sort of bloke that your mum would want your sister to bring home - at least before he grew whatever it was on his upper lip.

Steve Kember had a 40-year face when he first came into the side at 17 (it's still there now), but wasn't really ugly.

The one I have just thought of, for the first time in years, is Stewart Imlach - screwed up features and a convict haircut - probably the ugliest player of the 1960s. Flanagan wins the 70s and 80s on the basis of the worst ever haircut.

I have got to mention a mate of mine and fellow Palace fan, known as Fisharse.
I think it must have been demi-god Dowie's first home game, and me n a few mates were on the way to the ground. The stunner was highlighted in the programme and we all cracked up when we noticed he was a spitting image for our mate Fisharse, who we were meeting outside the ground. We finally caught up with him outside the Arthur Waite, he was clutching the programme opened to the Dowie feature, the first words that came out of his mouth were..'F... me, that Dowie's one ugly B.......'.

I think that covers Palace's ugliest player and probably ugliest fan too.

Have to agree with Baloo. Someone should tell Warhurst that the Beatles hairdoos went out in the sixties.

Another nomination - Lombardo, great player but has a head on him that would scare the devil out of hell!

Seeing as we have best and worst ever teams on other threads, does anyone mind if we extend this one a bit?
I'd like to start with this debonair bunch;

1. Paul Barron (just for the perm)
2. David Burke
3. Paul Bodin (with tache)
4. Jamie Pollock
5. Eric Young
6. Lee Sinnott
7. David Hopkin
8. Eddie McGoldrick (also with tache)
9. Mike Flanigan
10. Ian Dowie
11. David Giles

I seem to recall a chap called Ricky Newman who looked a little unusual, he seemed to have a shrunken head.

Mr Goldberg looked like one of those monkeys you used to see banging a drum in toy shop windows, in the Sixties. I think they also had similar IQ, although the ape comes out on top.

Bert Head was an extremely unattractive fellow.

Does anyone remember a youngster named Eric Smith. He did not play at senior level, but was on the squad picture before season 1994-1995.
