What was the earliest, in terms of time, that anybody saw Palace play. Mine was in 76 but I am guessing that will be beat easily.

My betting is on Trolley going back into the 50's.

I'd be surprised if no-one on the BBS could beat this. Over to Trolley?

72(?) v Huddersfield Last game of the season, 0-0 ,Pissing down with rain, Drenched on the Holmesdale hooked from the start.Weirdest part though is I had to work with my old mans mate repairing Lawn Mowers to get the money to go and where I live now overlooks where it all started.

I was first taken by my late Grandfather - 1956 aged 5! Needless to say, I can't remember anything of the game.

Selhurst's remembered his first game:

..... 29 November 1970, Palace v Wolves ...

Amazingly, this was the last game I saw with my Grandfather - he died the following night. Trevor Dawkins scored the winner at the Holmesdale end - a classic 'banana shot'. I have a recording of the BBC radio report of the game somewhere - I'll try and dig it out and upload a RealAudio clip if I can find some time over the weekend.

August or September 1980, beat Middlesbro 5-2, Clive Allen scored a hat-trick after we were 2-1 down at half time. Relegated that season as the second worst team of all time in the 1st division. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/furious.gif

Don't remember my first game but my Dad assures me it was a boring 0-0 with N. Forest, I think in 1968.

In terms of time, the earliest I saw Palace play was 11.00 am against Brighton, on a Boxing Day!

Fat Andy

First game was Bournemouth 1980.

Earliest was seeing Palace play at 09:30 in the morning vs. QPR last season, was watching it on tv on a beach in Antigua.

I also attended reserve matches that year as well.Watched palace play Spurs with 10000 watching because Jimmy greaves was playing.

1977/78 - Cardiff at home 2-0 to the Palace. Next game was a 5-0 htrashing of Chelsea ina pre-season friendly...Anyone who went to that. Chelsea had ex-palace trio Mickey Droy, Gary Locke and a very very young Ray Wilkins (with hair!) playing for them... Great initiation...

3-1 or 3-2 win for Palace against Southampton.

It was a school trip. We were taken to the ground on a coach, doors were opened and we were told be back at the coach for 5.15pm.

Now that something that wouldn't happen nowadays.

Once bitten I spent what was left of the season pleading with my dad to take me again. He did and we have rode the roller coaster that is Palace ever since.

January 1959 against Northampton. 1-1 on a muddy pitch and a scrappy game, with a lateequaliser from all-time legend Gerry Priestly (later he decided that he couldn't bear to live in the south of England, so he ran away to Halifax).

I'm still not sure why I ever came to see them again.

1960. Remember the excitement, remember at least some of the Palace players, but the opposition made no impression at all.

1984 - one of the last games of the Mullery reign (of terror?), although I am one of those unfortunate sad individuals who can not remember a single detail about it - opponents, score, nothing.

Neil, Blind_Minors first ever game was the Liverpool semi when he was six. Shame he had to learn that not every game involving Palace is quite that exciting.

First game was against Charlton 0-0 either boxing day or 28th Dec. I can't remember the year but Charlton had a player called Alain Simonsen?? who the Palace were giving it to the whole match. In front of us was a Charlton supporter, who midway through the second half had had enough of the abuse dished out, stood up and screamed
"he's got medal's on his tits, medals on his tits and what have the Palace boys got to show"
"Palace don't have tits" was the reply someone gave him.

Taken because my Dad is a Palace fan and I lived near Portsmouth at the time. Was so cold I made my half-time soup last for about forty minutes.

Went and watched Fulham in the old 1st div a week later, they lost about 2-6, so it was Palace from then on.

perhaps someone could tell me when my first game was this is all i remember.

Charlton were the opposition
Vince Hilaire played

Probably around late 70's early 80's
Palace hit the woodwork consistently but could not score. (Frustrating from day one)

Millwall..2nd Jan 1978 Nick Chatterton scored and we won 1-0.
My old boy used to take me and my younger brother to Reserves and we saw him put his gear on ready for the big match.
We pleaded and pleaded with him to take us and he got 3 seats in the back row of A Wait so we could sit on the backs of seats.
there were over 29,000 people there and I was hooked..went every game from then on.
It was f***ing marvellous.
My bro was less impressed, he started crying when the Doctor Who music came on (he was 3) and he ended up supporting QPR!!!!

November 1962, Palace v Hereford United FA cup first round. Palace 2 Hereford 0. I was only a nipper and living in Church Road in Upper Norwood, my Dad took me. I remember how totally overawed I felt, it was the best thing I had ever seen or done. I can remember the excitement and anticiation I felt on matchdays walking down Whitehorse Lane, and the dread I felt of my team losing.
Over the years we have got used to losing, but I still feel the same about going to the ground on matchdays. Sod's law though, my son and heir turned out to be a gooner!

Chocky has dug this out for me before. Palace 1 Cardiff 1 (scorer Aylott). Circa 1984!? I can even remember he scored with a header and Jim Cannon hit the bar. George Wood was flicking V's into the Holmesdale as he was getting abuse. Bloody good memory considering I would have been eight.
Chocky told me last time the exact date, attendance and if I remember pitchside temperature. The thing I want to know is who was number one in the charts at the time?

And I also know your mummy had made you egg mayo sandwiches for lunch and the eggs were 3 months past their sell by date. That's why the terracing around you was empty, nowt to do with attendance.

Bought up in Fulham when I was a little 'un and watched them from the age of four - which is why I still go and see them from time to time, and have a lot of sentiment for them (although it is more like Chelsea these days).

I can remember seeing them when they almost went out of the football league (although I never went on a regular basis) and have fond memories of watching Best, Marsh and Moore.
