if anything is certain, there must be a left-back joining the club before the start of the season, as we only have one (frampton), who seems to be out of favour with Coppell.
Obviously we'd all love Ashley Cole, but if Man Utd got £2m for Higginbotham (WHO? HOW MUCH?), imagine what Arsenal will want for this brilliant prospect. My second choice would be Dean Gordon. With Ziege ahead of him and him just coming back from injury, he might not get a look in; boro got him for virtually nothing so wouldn't need to recoup much.
Someone recently on here said Terry Phelan was not part of Tigana's plans, he would be a useful addition to the squad.
Beyond those three, any other thoughts?
I saw a very promising left-back play for Arsenal reserves, Matthew Wicks, now at Peterborough...don't know how he's come on though.
Oh, and one more thing, SIGN MARC EDWORTHY!!!!! AND SUPER MATT. Message terminated.

There are many of our former players who left for financial reasons, still perfectly able to cut it in the First Division.
Left back is a problem and it surprised me when Coppell announced his first target would be a striker. If Dean Gordon was available - or Terry Phelan (doubtful, surely?) then I think either would be welcomed back by all concerned.
BTW, Matthew Wicks is Steve's son (don't believe him to be anything special) and yes, I'd love Edworthy to return.

Marc Edworthy - now there's a player that I WOULD like to see back at Palace. Marc wouldn't cost too much, as he rarely even plays for Coventry, and I always rated him when he was here - as a full back and as sweeper.
Come on Steve - try and get him back!

Lets not forget Edworthy was our captain and player of the year. A fantastic signing who i'm sure would be happy to return.

Defence and attack both need strengthening but I'm sure Coppell already knows this. He also probably knows exactly who his targets are, just doesnt want to say so to not attract attention from other clubs.

Other things being equal Marc might well be happy back at Palace. But are you so sure he would be happy about taking a pay cut?
Personally I doubt very much we will be signing any premiership players unless they are in the last year or two of their careers. The wage differences are generally just too big and Jordon has already said he is not going to splash money about Goldberg style. And quite right too - that's how he got us in such a mess in the first place.

Am I the only Palace fan who though Edworthy was pony. To my mind he was very much in the Austin mould - 100% commitment but very limited ability. Only ever looked reasonable at sweeper but then so did Andy Roberts.
We shouldn't be looking back at average past players (Jansen aside) on big premiership wages. I would much rather we took a gamble on a decent second division full back.

No. I did too. You cant fault his commitment but fork me he wasnt very good.
Edworthy was good going forward, dodgy in defence. For me he should of been played in midfield or possibley as a sweeper. I'll never forget him being slaughtered by the lumbering Heskey every time we seemed to play Leicester.

I thought Marc was a very classy sweeper, a not bad right back and a sh*t centre back.
Given we play with a back 4, i don't see the point in getting him back. I agreed with Venables, when he said he wanted him to try playing in midfield, but he wasn't interested.
The reason he's been not playing for Coventry is that he crocked his ankle around new year.
