Chelsea turning on the style in this one. Sporting new tactics and making the most of every situation that they created.
Toronto started the brighter but soon Chelsea got into their stride and started scoring freely.
Toronto created created a few good chances but Chelsea's defence held strong.

So, I'm potentially planning on a completely new team (bar maybe one or two).
Would I be financially penalised for this?
EDIT: I have no plans to buy any upgrades, ever. Will that eventually screw me over in three or four season's time?

Doubt anyone can afford to buy a whole new team, as you only get two free players.
And I would imagine you'd lose out. In a couple of seasons my spending power will be about 200k more than now, which'd be 3/4 world class players worth

And why does everyone seem to think they are going to lose a major player? Recent history shows that a lot of drafts are free agents with very few players being taken from other FWL teams.
It shouldn't be easy to have the team you want. I think it should be a bit of a struggle - maybe force teams to rethink formations etc.
Can we just try it for this season please?
What if I protect bent then I can pay off my debt when the next budget comes in as I've upgraded my stadium.

How do you know my plans for next season? I got relegated and you think I'm going to keep the same low rated team for next season?
Maybe it is for the best that I withdraw my team for next season. Despite not winning in god knows how long and getting relegated I'm still 'working the system' for myself.

I believe the 'steal' stage is still there topper (welcome btw!) but might be worth checking with one of the league admins.

For new players I'm afraid it's free agents only in your first season due to the fact you don't have a team that people can steal from.

For new players I'm afraid it's free agents only in your first season due to the fact you don't have a team that people can steal from.

Several managers, both old & new, are not 100% sure what is happening next season.
Perhaps it'd be a good idea to start next seasons thread with all new rules, and timetable of draft/steals etc?

Omen, this is my last rant on this issue i promise!
Take this scenario for example:
Manager steals/ picks two players, one rated 67 the other 72 and is happy with his squad.
At the last minute he has two players stolen rated 78 & 82,
This takes his team down to 14 players, so has 2 sign two players quickly before the season starts to avoid being penalised further. To replace his stolen players with one's of equivalent rating will cost him £90,560. Screwed by the system. If you get robbed in real life, insurance pays out (most of the time!)
I know you say history dictates that mostly free agents are taken but in the past I have had Ashley Young, Andy Johnson and Richard Dunne stolen to name a few.
Im not saying someone is definatley going to get screwed, but the potential is there.
IMO if you insist on not finacially re-embursing managers for having players stolen you need to have a draft order and that order should be reversed with the top side going first because the overall risk is greater. That order has to be stuck to and if you pass you lose your chance to steal.
I don't like to moan and do appreciate the effort you put in, like PM said I see it as trying to help.

Omen has explained that if you have 14 players before the start of the steal stage, then you must have sold 2 players during the season for money. Money which you should use to fill your squad again. Its your own fault if you've sold your players too cheap and can't afford replacements :)

I sold players not knowing about the free agents being charged for in the off season.
Obviously most of these things are clear in Omen's head but he has never explained them prior to this.
If I do lose players then i guess i'll just have to push the boundaries of how much debt a manager can take on, another rule yet to be clearly explained.
Like I said rant over, I just think some of these new features need a bit more thinking through and explaining before implementing them. Ohh the days of the simple points system :)

Victory over Chelsea secures Gerland Cup for Lyon
A late goal at Stamford Bridge secured all three points, and as a result the Gerland Cup, for Lyon.
The French side were close pushed by Premiership side Scunthorpe United, but eventually beat the English outfit by 2 points - that late goal being the decider.
Lyon will now set their sites on the Champions Cup.

Lech Poznan have been granted an extension to the time limit to adhere to the 50% home grown players rule imposed by the Polish FA (PZPN). Poznan where hoping to have a minimum of 8 home grown players this season but owing to a misunderstanding of the free agent rule have applied for & been granted a 1 season extension. Manager Panzer said "we were looking at bringing in 3 or 4 new Polish lads in the free agent phase but obviously we can't do that, I have plans to sign 1 free agent from abroad & 1 Pole but will have to wait & see what happens regarding steals, if everything works out ok we will have 7 Poles & will look to get the others I'm after for the following season".
Owing to the new cost of free agents an extra season was allowed by the PZPN to bring the squad upto half & half home & foreign players.

No, as mentioned earlier I should be down 40k but when I released my players I got 79k for some strange reason, that doesn't add up to their wages either as they were 48k, 16k & 14k (78k total). I've also protected 2 players so should be 70k down NOW but still showing as 39k UP!

I still think its unfair, because if you draft two players for your team, then have players stolen in different positions (as is likely) then it's likely you will have to go out and sign new players to replace those ones.
To use you as an example Omen, you draft your two new players, then what will you do if someone then steals from you in a different position where you don't have any good cover? Say your keeper or Distin, then are you happy to spend some money on free transfers to replace your lost positions? As you will need a keeper even if you are happy to play two low rated CBs. In that case it's not your fault, but because you made your steals first you have to then pay to replace players. The previous system meant that we could use free transfers to replace positions lost by steals.
Anyway, that's what i'll be doing to you Omen just to prove a point ;)

Basically I made a stupid, stupid error in the code and didn't notice it when testing as my manager ID and team ID in the database is the same. That isn't the case for anyone else so protections haven't been working correctly. :(

How about make it easier and compensate financially the manager that has had the player stolen rather than mess around with emergency loans.
Or have a new option to purchase player insurance, less of a fee than protection but means if the player is stolen you get his financial value in return?

Your lack of involvement in the FWL is making us (the admins) consider your position for next season. You have removed me from Facebook so I can't remind you on there and you didn't reply to my email I sent to remind you about the FA Cup.
With us keeping the FWL to a small group, the idea is that the community spirit continues and doesn't just become any old online league comp. If I don't hear from you soon then your account will be retired I'm afraid.

Emergency loan won't really work for an entire season.
Maybe you should be allowed an emergency season long transfer/loan, can sign one player in the same position at the same value or lower for free, but only for one season. So you have to resolve the problem the following season. It would mean that people aren't penalised financially for losing players but also that a monetary gain isn't received either.
In theory it might mean people get an extra couple of frees a season, but it shouldn't upset the boat too much. People will still have to stick within budgets so there will be no difference in team qualities. I don't think it will stop people buying or selling either, as transfers generally haven't cost too much.

Maybe you should be allowed an emergency season long transfer/loan, can sign one player in the same position at the same value or lower for free, but only for one season. So you have to resolve the problem the following season. It would mean that people aren't penalised financially for losing players but also that a monetary gain isn't received either.
In theory it might mean people get an extra couple of frees a season, but it shouldn't upset the boat too much. People will still have to stick within budgets so there will be no difference in team qualities. I don't think it will stop people buying or selling either, as transfers generally haven't cost too much.

By the way, in relation to these steals, what if you get more than 2 players stolen and then have less than 16 players? But have no money to purchase new players? At the moment, i'm looking at being in debt next season anyway, unless I do get players stolen in the draft (which I don't mind, but would quite like to be informed if people are nice enough :D). Then I can replace the stolen players with lower rated players.
I think if I had fully known the rules at the beginning of this season I would have restricted my team to having a wage budget of around the 400-450k mark which would've left me with the resources to buy upgrades/players/protection etc.

Great club games there, undefeated in 9 (I think) until we reached the final, and played a team of 6 people rated 83-87ish. We lost 2-1, but could have drawn if we'd scored a penalty and I wasn't a massive twat passing instead of shooting.
Really enjoyed that, up for some more at the weekend maybe?

FWL: Season XIV Awards
Following on from last season's awards, hopefully everybody can vote and we can get some good results.
It's been a very close season in all of the leagues, with the League One title race going right down to the wire, the Championship being decided on goal difference, and, for the first time ever, New York Red Bulls being beaten in league competition! Fifa 11 has shaken things up slightly, and pallet actually has a respectable total for once, as he continues to play with his eyes closed so that he doesn't run away with the league and cup.
As we are about to bring the season to a close, with the Season XV draft about to begin, I thought it would be interesting to have a vote for some awards, similar to last season. I think the categories should be as follows:

Each person is allowed to vote for a winner and a runner-up in each category, you can vote for yourself, but please don't choose yourself as winner for everything, do it realistically please.

2. I sort of want to vote for myself for 2nd, since I won the League and the Gerland Cup, but it is very close between myself, hypje and Seaside.

A cracking game between the champions and the holders of the Premiership that saw Cameron Jerome get a hat-trick.
2. Lyon 3-2 Toronto
A ridiculously tight end-to-end game decided in the 90th minute by last seasons 39 goal hero Lisandro Lopez. One of only 3 for the Argentinian this season, something he will be keen to improve on next season.
Player of the Season
1. Nicholas Bignall
Don't be fooled by the fact that he is 3rd on the goalscoring charts - it would be a ton more if manager BulletEagle had played him more often. Signed at the beginning of the season as a last-resort sub, the Englishman started in the Cup and played exceptionally, and as a result only played half a season, but still managed 14 goals and counting.
2. Nathan Delfouneso
Chelsea's main man this season was scoring for fun early on in the season, and despite the fact that the goals have dried up recently - not scored in his last 5 - he scored 10 in his first 9 games, and couldn't stop tapping them in left right and centre.
Team of the Season
1. Vfl Wolfsburg
They got to the final of the FA Cup, won League 1, and are through to the semis of the Champions Cup.
2. Palace
Winners of the FA Cup, and unfortunate not to get at least a play-off place in the Championship.

Palace finally lose.
In a goalkeeping performance reminiscent of the disgraced Castellazi, Isaksson contributed to Palace's first loss in yonks.
Palace took the lead through Carroll but a hat-trick from Bignall and another from Briand finished the Eagles off.
The Palace strikers have to bear some responsibility as they were both guilty of missing several golden opportunities at 1-1.

oo! 1 rule I forgot to put in the rules (newbies take note)
Do not pause the game when the ball is in play you must wait until the ball is dead (Goal kick, throw in, free kick etc).
*If you have possesion & you want to use the menu, play the ball so it will go out of play where no one is around or can stop it, it would be ok to pause just before the ball goes out.
I said this last season & people said "that's a silly rule" :rolleyes: Some however did mention there may be a legitimate reason (babies, spilt drinks, really bad lag msg for quitting etc). From now on however I think it should be enforced, anyone pausing MUST have a valid excuse or fines will be imposed :p
