I guess we all have the same few games in mind. My pick of the bunch has to be the semi-fnal with liverpool at villa park.
Al super Al. Super Alan Pardew.
League - Ipswich away, won 2-1, February 1989. Wright scored 2, 2-0 up at half time and down to 10 men. We held on for the win and the atmosphere was superb;
Cup - 4-3 say no more; Cup Final just because we were there;
Play-off - Sheff Utd was so tense: although the Hopkin goal is the best individual moment of my Palace-supporting "career", I think I enjoyed the 2 games against Clowntown more for entertainment purposes. When Houghton scored in the 2nd leg was a defining moment for me.

the streaker was more defining for me
summed up palace...why oh why did he bother on a freezing cold night when he could have been in a nice warm pub.
i ask myself that every time i go to selhurst

Apart from the obvious (89,97 play off finals,fa cup semi & final) my favorite match has to be Millwall away in March 89. The noise in the away end that day was amazing, we won 2-0 ( which helped to relegate them) and to top off a great day we had a brick thrown at us whilst we were kept behind in the ground!

December 1972 when we beat Moanchester United 5-0, Don Rogers and all that!!
That game, for me tops even the Liverpool semi-final and the FA Cup Final itself.

As well as the obvious, Wolves away in the play offs, the noise when wolves went one up was deafining (bearing in mind we were in the bottom tier of the stand, they were litterally surrounding us), then of course we silenced them with a piece of magic from Hoppy!!.
I'd like to know who the poor bloke was in that Fiat Uno who was surrounded by wolves fans as we were driving away from the ground? They were banging on his windows and rocking his car quite badly. We managed to escape thanks to one of my mates having to foresight to take a wolves scarf up there with us to avoid anything like that. Nice one Jim!!

It's another wonderful Crystal Palace goal, Clive Tyldsley Palace 4-1 Wolves 1995!!!!

Steering away from the obvious I have lots of fond memories of Reading away on Easter Monday in 1996.
Took the train up from Havant and proceeded to have a great day. Especially amusing was the half-time penalty competition with some schoolkids - felt a bit sorry for the kid receiving the "dodgy 'keeper" chants though!
Portsmouth away on New Year's Day the same year was great (anyone remember what was virtually a competition of shouting "Oi!" at the linesman in our corner?).
No-one mentioned Arsenal away, October 1994? Well I have now, just to do it first!
And for those few of us who were there, the win at Newcastle in March 1998. There were only about 200 Palace fans there because it was midweek and had been rearranged on nine days' notice - you could have heard a pin drop when Lombardo and Jansen scored! A very easy drive home that night. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

That was part of what was so sweet about it Vic - we parked in a secure lock up yard that is right opposite the away end http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Not the most fashionable game. but I did enjoy our evening game against Southend (won 2-1) the year went up as champs. Sticks in my mind due to some palace fans nicking the ladder to the T.V cameramans gantry, so he had to beg for it to get down !!!!!!

The play off final (Sheff U) - plus the Wolves game away that preceeded it (intimidating atmosphere and dodgy place to go n' all).
Plus Millwall away - the 4-1 http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif, for lots of reasons - including George's goal and the fact that I went to and from the game in a porsche ! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Again, apart from the obvious, a 2-1 midweek away win against Bradford at Odsal in the `80s.
Up on the coach and the small Palace contingent doing the conga around the area set aside for them, which would have held 20 times their number....good memories of a good away victory as we were just emerging from a forgettable period in the club's history...

Forest away in the Simod cup semi final.
I fell 4 rows forward celebrating Ian Wright's equalizer.
Despite losing 3-1 in the end, we were on the Lifeline coach and had a right old piss up on the way home. Got in at 4 am and was too drunk to attend work the next day.
There were better more obvious ones, but I felt I had to put that in the public domain...

the most elated was when houghton scored in about the 4th min vs clowntown in the playoffs.. i was so nervous up until then, but after that it was party time.
before this year norwich away has been a good time (two straight 0-1 wins)
millwall 1-4 away has to be one of the best, not only were there 4 goals to the good, but a pen save aswell.
wolves at home, two last minute goals.
gooners away, even in the home part of the clock end, but happily plenty of palace had tickets in that end, and we felt quite safe.
stoke away, when we went up as champs, we won 0-2, and brought a large following
Millwall home 89-90. What a game and to win in the last minute 4-3! Of course the obvious Liverpool fa cup semi, Blackburn play off final and the cup final itself. Pompey home 5-1, I have a couple of Pompey friends and I did enjoy that one!

One of my favourites was the 3-2 v Wimbledon, when Nigel got sent off and Salako - the smallest man on the pitch - went in goal. Wimbledon then had two players sent off themselves. I was sitting in the very front row with my two (at the time, little) girls. When their second player got sent off, he was standing right in front of us. The referee walked over to him. Would it be red? Yes, it was red! The three of us leaped in the air with glee, and I yelled at him.
How do I know? Because when we got home and watched the highlights on tv, there we all were. It was so embarrassing, and to make it worse, several coleagues at work spotted me and ribbed me about it for weeeks - teaching little girls to be hooligans!
Did I buy the video of my shame? You bet! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Without repeating the big moments in our history, one stands out.
In the early seventies, Sheffield United were promoted to the old first division and won their first five or six games, all by four or five goals. Palace had a crap start to the season, so MOTD sent their cameras to catch a lot of goals.
We won 5-1.
Still nothing can quite beat Burnley.

That Friday night promotion decider against Burnley, over 50,000 packed into Selhurst, we won 2-0. So many others but for sheer atmosphere at SP that has to be my fav.

dont ask....
Burnley '79, the Liverpool Semi and the Play-Off Finals all go without saying.
A few favourites apart from those are:
(1) Manchester City away 87/88. Getting played off the park by an in-form City (they'd put 10 past Huddersfield not long previously). We were 1-0 down when Mark Bright chased a speculatively through-ball which Andy Dibble (I think) in the City goal collected comfortably. Dibble raised his arm for some reason and Marky hit the deck as if receiving a right hook from George Foreman. Result ... Dibble Off ... some outfield player in goal (this in the days 1 or 2 subs only) and a penalty to Palace. You won't get a more significant turning point in a match than that. The penalty duly dispatched we went on to win 3-1. Superb stuff. Realizing that they couldn't get at the referee, the Kippax set their attention to trying to lynch us instead but I just about made it home. A brilliant match.
(2) Manchester United away 89/90. A 2-1 win with Palace scoring from just about their only 2 attacks of the match (both Mark Bright I think). The remaining 90 minutes was an incessant siege of the Palace goal with Nigel Martyn, in one of his first appearances for us, saving us pretty well single-handedly. The result sparked a vociferous Ferguson-Out demonstration by the home support (this was only a couple of weeks after their infamous 5-1 defeat at Maine Road) that we were more than happy to join in with.
(3) Boxing Day at Ipswich Town (87/88). Ian Wright (maybe 2) and a Neil Redfearn penalty. 3-2 win but clinging on for dear life at the end. Superb atmosphere in the packed away end.
(4) Same season ... 87/88 away to Millwall. Losing 1-0 and looking unlikely to score with the match entering injury time. Palace get a corner (at the far-end) that disappears amongst a crowd of players. The player's celebrations were first we knew that it had gone in (off Jim Cannon's arse apparently). The away end was seriously overcrowded in the barbed-wire enclosed corner compound at the Old Den but the celebration were mental. "You'll never make the station" sung the home support and the police kept us in for about half an hour but a good memory none the less. Somebody tried to start a chant of "we're going to get our ******* heads kicked in" but I think most we're to nervous to join in.
Anyway ... you can't beat an away win (late draw) in the league. Jingle bells, jingle bells ...

I think Burnley in 1979 was THE one, we'll never see the likes of it again at Selhurst crowd-wise. I have to say the F.A. Cup tie against Swansea a year later 3-3 draw was an electric amazing match! We eventually lost the 2nd replay at Cardiff.

best game i wasent at - play off final 97
best game attended - palace 2-1 liverpool 1
2001(just for the feeling it gave me walking away from the ground, it didnt sink in that we'd beaten liverpool for about 2 hours afterwards.the only downside is that i thought we had a real chance in the 2nd leg - how wrong could i be.

Back to back 6-1 wins home to Southend and away to Reading were nice too (around 96-97).
Can remember drinking in South Croydon that night after Reading and someone asking the score, when we replied 6-1 they said "what again ?" http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

apart from the obvious ones....4-1 away at Coventry. Palace completely outplayed them and the Coventry fans behind were going on what a class act Palace looked (won the next match 3-0 against Ipswich...then didn't score for 11 games !)

Bradford City season before last!
We had lost a team of players on transfer deadline day the 'Wooze' was playing (debut I think)! The score board was nt on - administration at its worst and we outplayed 'em and beat 'em 1-0!
Me and my Dad (aged 50) went mental for the whole game - mind you the clocks had gone back and we forgot so I think we may have had one to many to drink!

Home to Middlesborough about 1982/3. We won 1-0 after having Kevin Mabbut/Billy Gilbert sent off in the first 20 minutes. Under pressure the whole match until Vince Hilaire runs the length of the pitch and falls over (through tiredness possibly) in their area for a penalty. Forgot who scored.
It was a Sunday afternoon kick-off and about 4,800 turned up. Terrible weather.
It was just the best result as we should have been slaughtered.
Coming from the West Midlands, my favourite games have to be against Wolves and Villa.
This season's game at the Molineux was excellent. We totally outplayed them and ran rings around their defence for the majority of the match. Although we took our feet off the pedal in the second period, we still won at a canter. The look on the Wolves faces at the end, said it all!! We have also had notable victories against Wolves at Wolves in recent seasons, prior to this - 0-2 (Hopkin & Dyer)& 0-3 (Tuttle, Veart & Dyer). I've seen all these and they've been fun!
During our last League Cup extravaganza (season 1994-95?), we had a brilliant win over Villa at Selhurst. I went down with a car load of Villa fans. Ehioghu got sent off and they took the lead - 0-1 at half-time to them. Second half we were all over them like a rash! Both Armstrong & Southgate got two goals. It was a silent journey back, I can tell you.

Great thread! PJ, that is extraordinary - i've never been to many away games, but went to three of the four you've mentioned. Millwall is very scary but I went to that City game completely alone as well, and you have to go through some very hard places.....
Another classic was Spurs away in the Cup in 1987 or '88, losing four - nil and retaliating to their four - nil chant with foreskins....
Before anyone starts my girlfriend at the time was Jewish, it was only a wee joke....

Another one, a match against Arsenal away in about 1993 or 4... I watched it on Spanish TV with my then girlfriend, now wife, and think we won 2-1, but maybe that's wishful thinking.... anyway the point is that what really sticks out for me from that game, after taking her to several games in Spain where 30 - 40 free kicks per game is the norm, was watching Salako clear through on goal midway through the second half (in some yellow shirt we were wearing then) and Nati disturbing my concentration after 60 minutes asking, "where are all the fouls?"
Perhaps it's the best league in Europe but they don't half spend a lot of time on the floor!

Two games against the South Coast Scum :
1976 FA Cup Away 2-2. Harkouk's cracking goal, massive punch ups inside ground and all the way back to Hove Station.
1978/79 Championship season : 3-1 at home. We banged in all three in quick succession after half time. Holmesdale was going absolutely ballistic!!!!!
