Ron Isley - Contagious
Ginuwine - Differences.

I think you should add The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen (because I love it and want to listen to it right now).

Make sure that you don't include Every Breath you Take - that's not a love song, it's a hate song. That reminds me, while you're at it put This is Not a Love Song by PiL on.

So What - Anti Nowhere League
Plastic Gangsters - 4skins
Bring back the skins - JD
Blue Monday 88 - New Order

And definitley the best Jam song ever - Butterfly Collector "Thats tarts and whores but youre much more, youre a different kind coz you want their mind"

Which Jam song was this from please help - "From this window I've seen the whole world pass, from dawn to dusk I've heard the last laugh laughed, I ve heard wedding bells chime and a funeral march, when as one life finishes another one starts" I know its the Jam, even though it sounds more like a Sylvia Plath poem, but can anyone remind me which one please??

He does pretty much live in The Jazz Cafe, doesn't he? Hate that place though - saw Gil Scott-Heron there last year and the entire audience was composed of North London socialites who talked all the way through the gig. I didn't go there to hear The Bottle competing with Vanessa's Great Drinking Story and Jamie's Latest Girlfriend Adventures. W@nkers.

I don't know who Westlife are, but the Jam were a great band and all that, especially live, but I do find his lyrics appallingly trite (works sometimes mind - "Tube Station" sends a chill down my spine sometimes, "Strange Town" is well observed, "English Rose" is very pretty, just think he should have stayed away from straight politics). I met some of the kids from Arthur Lee's last touring band playing pool in a Madrid house of ill repute about ten years ago, they said Arthur was about as crazy as a loon. Anyway, how about "Not Right" by the Stooges and "Blank Generation" by the Voidoids to pep up your album?

Can I suggest Unwind by Sonic Youth - it's very pretty if you can find somewhere to download it.

I'm also very partial to Zero 7 at the moment if you can get any of that too.

Then again, I suspect you wouldn't necessarily enjoy the music I listen to. It's just that you've never had to endure 15 weeks of it on the radio/ TV all the time.

Brings to mind that case of the person who was up in court for going round and, I think, shooting their neighbour's hifi to bits. Apparently the neighbour had been playing 'I will always love you' (another chart topper) by Lady Whitney of Houston with the window open for weeks, and the poor bloke had just cracked.

"Hell's Gate" by Jason and the Scorchers, because it's the ultimate in cowpunk.

"Alex Chilton" or "Skyway" by the Replacements. The former is a huge piece of rock. The latter is quite simple and quite beautiful.

Shame about all the ones that will miss out.

Honourable mentions for "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull and "The Needle and the Damage Done" by Neil Young because they were the first songs I learnt to play and I can still impress impressionable youngsters who've never heard them by playing them. Also the First Movement of Beethoven's 5th Symphony, the choral section of his 9th Symphony, Mars from Holst's Planets and the Empire/Vader theme from Star Wars.

On a similar note, the most instructive thing I ever learned to play was the guitar solo from 'Can't you hear me knockin('/g?)' from Sticky Fingers which I think is probably the best guitar break in any track I can think of. The guy just knows when to shut up. Track deserves to be in on that basis alone.

Since we're obsessed with The Jam at the moment, they recorded a cracking version of Heatwave, so you can put that on yer album.

Now, there were few bigger fans of Weller than me, but The Jam's attempts in this direction were a failure. Heatwave is just about ordinary, I suppose, at least when compared to their version of Move On Up.

To the great man's credit, he saw the problem, which was why he moved on up to the Style Council. I know most Jam fans regarded this as a disaster, but some of the stuff still stands up, even if his voice doesn't quite.

Never thought it would happen to be honest, but I've gone back to Bowie recently. Here's two tracks that might deserve inclusion:

Let's Get Married
Sound and Vision

I'm listening to it at the moment and reminding myself of what a great tune it is, I'd nominate Underworld's Dirty Epic

Sample lyrics:

Ride the sainted rhythms on the midnight train to Romford

Here comes Christ on crutches

All I could see was Doris Day in a big screen satellite, disappearing down the tube hole on Farringdon Street with Whiplash Willy the motor psycho

Oddly enough, looking this up to check for accuracy of recall I notice that the phrase 'crystal palace' is used on the same page.
Erm, tumescent? Pubescent? Fluorescent? Does anyone else get that thing where you can instantly pick out (e.g.) your surname or "crystal palace" in the middle of thousands of words of text, by the way?

Some might say excrescent.

PK - True enough. But in spite of always wanting to like Terry Callier, I can't persuade myself that he's not a little...bland. Heresy, I know.

"live version of red barchetta by RUSH" .:p

Nice choice, Rush are one of the great (live) bands - predictably underrated on this side of the pond (reassuring in a way).

Unfortunately it is... I was really sad when I heard it as I love Alice In Chains and also the other project he was a part of, Mad Season. Another great Seattle-musician has departed.
