What an absolute moron (although the Birmingham bit is funny).

He's a strange young man with a rather loose tongue.
Is he as good a player as he makes out he is?

Good player, shame he's nuts. Still, nobody has died due to anything he's done unlike some players who spring to mind - the opposite if anything...
Someone will make a player of him.

Agree. But Birmingham has a big Irish nightlife scene - something which clearly upsets him.

I think he is a good player, possibley a very good player. He needs a run of games in a side that will allow him a bit of a free role IMO.
Whether I'd want him at Palace 'influencing' a lot of our inexperienced and impressionable young lads I'm not sure.

I don't know about that but he always seemed to me to be one of City's best players and I was amazed when they let him go. My first assumption was that he wasn't foreign enough, but maybe there's more to it than that.

I disagree. I think Mancy-town is a much better place than Brum.

Eddie Mac, he may be entertaining, but he comes across as supremely arrogant.
I'm no fan of Brum, but to write off a whole City as 'crap', even Birmingham, is just nonsense. Maybe it's him, his attitude and his flash cars that are crap.

I rate him as a player and am baffled that Houllier doesn't want him; but that interview does not paint a pretty picture of a person so maybe he's a disruptive figure at the club..

He is definitely good enough to be a starting centre midfielder in any of the clubs placed between 6th and 15th. Needs a good run of matches to get his form back to when he was at City prior to the bloodoil money coming in.

Oh I completely agree. His comments about Birmingham and being the best player in training are arroogant and dis-respectful to a lot of people. And he's an idiot.
I just find idiot's mildly entertaining sometimes too - distracts me from work and I get to laugh at how supid someone is. Utter dick though.

Houllier not liking him is likely due to his on mental weakness. Ireland was brought in/lined-up by MON - a strong manager who likely would have handled him.
I can fully believe Ireland to be their best player in training. He's more skillful than Gareth Barry imo.

Some lame attempt to get him to sign a new contract - i heard it runs out summer 2012. He'll jog onto Spurs for zilch and leave them up the sh!tter. He's probably worth £20m in today's climate, even if he is a cheating little whinger.

I actually think Wenger will move for him when they sell Fabregas. I heard Wenger really rave about him on French TV, where he is a Jimmy Hill like figure.

Agree with this.
I loved this interview, it was honest and pasionate. He might be a bit of a nutter but who cares.
The stuff about the FAI shoddy approach to the Ireland national side is well documented by others and was the reason Roy Keane stormed out of the 2002 World Cup. I can well believe what he says is true.

Poor guy has been really unlucky with managers. Who'd have thought that both Mancini and Houllier didn't have the ability to spot that he was best in training?
as he said then: "I worked the hardest. With all the heart-rate monitors and tests, I was always No1, far ahead of everyone. You see the performance in training and I was practically always the best player in training. If [Mancini's] standing there watching that, I don't know how he doesn't see that."

I think he's a delusional mental case who is still dining out on 1 good season as a Premiership footballer. It never seems to be his fault whether it's Man City, Aston Villa, or Ireland, it's always problems with the Manager. I see his agent has now released a statement saying that he was misquoted. That seems to happen on a regular basis to him. Even if he doesn't want to live in Cobh anymore, I'm sure his family back home are not exactly pleased with these comments. He sounds and looks like an absolute c*** of a man, and I hope his career continues to go downhill.

But on the flip side, doesn't everyone appreciate honesty?
Rooney, Terry, Gerrard, Ferdinand (the list goes on) all continue to spout rubbish to make sure their public image is kept intact, when they are all upto (and have been) a number of fun & games.
In my book, you get far more respect for saying it like it is, then these footballers fabricating a load of shite of how they are down-to-earth, working class lads, when all the while they are making sure they get they sponsorships deals in the post.

I've no idea if the FAI have improved now or not, you'd have to ask Sean. I'd assume Stephen Ireland is talking about U16's and those kind of age groups. I don't know if Sean played youth ints. while that young?

Nice to see a footballer say what he actually feels and thinks.
So bored of seeing John Terry, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, etc give the most mind numbing and boring interviews ever.
If you'd listen to them, you'd believe that they were some sort of librarians who had never hurt a living sole, when in actual facts they're c*nts of the highest order.
BUT, I'd prefer it in interviews if they were honest. I'm so bored of football having no characters.
Ok Ireland comes across as a bit arrogant and a bit strange but so f*cking what. I'd rather him than boring twats like Terry.
