Did anybody else like it yesterday?

Yes, it is in a shit hole, yes, there was no leg room, yes there were no facilities, yes there was no big screen and the outside of it could be improved, but I really liked the way it was all close to the pitch, it really created a hostile environment IMO, and I liked the way it wasn't so big as to be half empty.

Obviously if we were to move it would have to look nice, but from a view of the pitch POV I quite liked it. I also think the two tiers around the ground meant that again everybody was closer to the pitch.

I hate the 2 tiers.

Was a struggle to keep a consistent atmosphere going.

Hated the view from the lower tier but speaking to mates in the upper tier, that was even worse.

Give me Selhurst any day. With a roof on the lower tier of the Holmesdale and no Upper Tier.

Now that would be loud and intimidating.

I agree Bullet, I have alway like Loftus road for the same reasons as you, close and intimidating, with todays technology (ie no stansions in the way), you could build a ground the same way but with better views for all, I would like our new ground to be like that, a one tier ground becomes souless, Reading Coventry etc etc, look at the weeds new ground, now you can see the inside, it's not so impressive

From where I was in the Upper I had a great view, not as good as my main stand view, but still. I would love a cross between the two, not a new bowl, a bit like the San Siro in that it is a rectangle, close to the pitch.

There is something special about Palace fans moaning about other grounds whilst we play in Selhurst Park in it's current state....

Give over, we all know Selhurst is a shithole, doesn't mean we can't lay into other grounds if we don't like them

I have to admit, I hate going to Loftus Road. From the back of the lower tier or just about anywhere in the upper you have a restricted view. I guess the atmosphere COULD be intimidating but from experience QPR don't make any noise so that is irrelevant.

The idea is good; a closed-in, tight environment but like so many who have not really moved on, it is showing its age (for the purposes of MexicanWhores, I'm including Palace in that, too).

I agree, I like the ground. I much preferered going to Burnley/QPR than Reading/Coventry (ground wise)

Upper tier has a great view. I like going there, tight and packed in, it's a decent ground.

I agree with that, but at least that's our shithole so we're entitled to whinge about it ;)

If there was a team with decent fans, Loftus Road would be intimidating.

well i was in Row B lower tier yesterday and the view was sh*t

plus the fact meat head stewards stood along the front blocking the view didnt help

having said that, i prefer going to these old style grounds than any new, plastic and concrete souless bowl any day

It's the worst ground in the league.

I like Loftus Road. The gangway in the school end is ridiculously narrow so going for a burger or a leak at half time is crap, but the stadium is compact, close to the pitch, and basically alright in my view.

I've never been to Loftus Road, How can you have restricted view from the whole of the upper tier?

We've got restricted view in the upper Holmesdale in the top right hand corner but that's all.

i wouldn't know about leg room............those of us on the bottom tier had to stand up all game:hmph: ................not that I'm getting lazy but if i-ve got a seat i would like to sit in it:D

but i do have to say,i've been to qpr away quite a few times now and i had one of the better views i've ever had yesterday from right behind the goal.
Its such a pokey small ground,i've always either had a fence in the way,i couldn't see the goal at our end from the top tier, or had stewards and/or police standing in the way.

You can't see the whole of the goal at your own end. It really is an utter shambles of a ground - makes SP look palatial.

Have only once had a decent seat at Loftus Road - that was a comp - not too bad yesterday but still couldn't see all the pitch at one end.

Loftus Road is one old ground I'd be happy never to watch another match at.

Good ground to visit i thought, great view and if you wer'nt happy you could move, also sneaked a couple of fags in at half time, you can't say that at many grounds these days,
The one critisism was that there was no atmosphere amoung the home fans and no banter.
Overall, give me the likes of Loftus Rd and Selhust over the new grounds anyday.

As others have said, having two tiers ruins the atmosphere a bit. I bet there were plenty of songs coming from both tiers, but never in tandem.

I've never had a bad view in the Upper Tier myself. So for that reason I quite like the ground. It's a shame that bar this season, QPR never get close to filling out a small ground because the atmosphere sounded pretty good yesterday.

The view from where I was in the upper tier was fantastic I must say. Felt very close to the pitch. But in terms of getting the whole end going with songs it is extremely difficult due to the 2 tier method that is at Loftus Road.

For a good atmosphere to get going IMO is to get more of a single tier packed out with 2-3k fans all singing in unison just like we did at Coventry. That sound went all around the stadium that day.

The QPR ground is so pony they should not be allowed up even if they get promoted. Try sitting in the lower tier near the middle and enjoy seeing goal nets.

and the Homesdale!! we have nets with seats behind them, what do you expect when you are behind the goal!!

True but there are only a few seats at Palace with a bad view. I have been to QPR many times and find the seating cramped and have often had a bad view.

Blimey, I wonder what some of you lot would've made of the view in the old Den? From the away corner you actually could not see the goal nearest to you at all!

I quite like Loftus Rd but I can understand some of the gripes about it.

Back in '93 I worked for a while in Notting Hill area and used to go to QPR with a fan (and another bloke who was a York City fan). They were always enjoyable events with Les Ferdinand still there and the crowds thin enough to allow us some room.

Mind you, I lean towards the shabby and quite unrealistically prefer grounds (and clubs) that have about them a whiff of terrace and rubbish tea at half time. With aforementioned lads I had one of my fave non-Palace moments - Leyton v York before the Orient ground was developed. Almost matched a wonderful afternoon at Dagenham v Exeter from which I can still conjure some moving images in my head like a pastel super8 cine film!

completely agree, watford and Portsmouth away this season, we created much better atmosphere. I seen us create twice the noise with half as many fans this season. Although the drummer wasn't allowed in yesterday!

Speaking as someone who went to the Old Den many times I beg to differ - maybe it's because the Old Den never had pretensions, no delusions of grandeur. And you got away from the ground quicker; much quicker :D

We was in the 2nd row of the Lower tier behind the photographers on the pitch. Shit view. Thought our goal was an Ambrose shot.

2nd half we went and stood in the 2nd row of the back so we can actually see a bit more of the pitch.

Still, it's nice to go to a traditional ground in a traditional area. Better walking throught the streets and houses then getting the special bus to an "out of town" shopping centre type stadium.

It looks horrible, there is no leg room, the bogs are smelly, the beer's too expensive and the corridors with the food stalls are too narrow.
Everything in the ground seems to have been designed for people half normal size.

Despite all that, the sausage roll was nice and I had a great day even though we lost. Long time since I stood and sang the whole game :D
