Probably about time there was a tennis betting thread for Ozeagle to flex his tennis punting muscles

Karlovic vs Del Potro
Big questionmark over Del Potro as to whether he is fit or not. The faster tennis ball will clearly be in Karlovic's favour though he'll lose if JMDP is fully fit, no question.

11/2 with Ladbrokes who are a 1 ball bookie (if JMDP retires during 1st set you win as long as 1 point has been played), 7/1 after comish with Betfair who need one set played before settling on a winner

Cheers for the tip.

My tennis record okish but like I said if fully fit JMDP will win

There was something about it on the BBC, basically not using the Dunlop balls they use for every other clay comp, Murray moaned it might cause injuries but was good for his chances

Found this

BBC Sport's Jonathan Overend on Twitter: "Verdict on the Babolat balls, replacing Dunlop this year: harder yet lighter, fly like in altitude, particularly in 1st 2 games of use."

Be good if Ivo can edge this set, JMDP might well struggle with a 5 setter

Haha well I think the bet def has/had a lot of value! If he can hold his serve I can see him winning the tirbreak again. Actually EDIT: looks like it is over now barring a miracle comeback or a recurrence of the injury. To be fair I only put 2 on, whereas a lot more has been lumped on Fishy who has just gone 2-0 up :):)

Also trying to find value in the matches priced at around 1.4 on the favourites and I feel LLodra at 1.41 may be a good shout or to win 3-0 or 3-1 against Darcis.

'BIGGEST EVER' TENNIS BET PLACED
By Andy Schooler

William Hill are reporting taking their biggest-ever tennis bet - from a punter trying to win enough money to buy a house.

According to the firm, a London-based customer has staked 120,000 on Novak Djokovic to beat Roger Federer in Friday's French Open semi-final.

The bet is the 27th in a run of bets from the man, all of which have won so far. They included punts on curling and cage fighting.

He started with an 8,400 bet back in March and his pot has since reached 161,000.

"Six-figure bets on tennis are so rare as to be almost an endangered species, and in 30-plus years in the business I cannot recall having seen, or even heard of, a tennis bet of this size," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

"We can think of no other punter to compare him to - he told staff when he placed his first bet that he hoped to win enough to buy himself a house - well, he can already afford a small place out in the sticks, but a mansion in Mayfair may take a few more winning bets! He is effectively betting the house every time he bets.

"The crucial question now is - when will he decide he has won enough and walk away with his house-sized profits?"

Djokovic, unbeaten so far this year, is in from 1/3 to 2/7 to win the match with Hills.

Federer is 15/2 to win the tournament on Betfair. Long enough odds to be worth a fiver I thought.

Although Djokovic is on an incredible run and has beaten Federer the last 3 times they've played, Federer's overall record against Djokovic is good, and the faster conditions at RG this year favour his style of play, making a win in the final more likely than before should he get past Djokovic.

I'd still expect Novak to win the thing, but at those odds I think it's worth a gamble on the Fed.

I don't care how many consecutive matches Djokovic has won or how many consecutive bets this bloke has won. Anybody who puts 120k AGAINST Roger Federer at 1.33 is a fkin idiot.

Yes I thought Djokovic would win but it was never going to be easy and definately not 120k worth of easy.

Can Nove break Federer's 174-0 record from being two sets up? I bet that punter is hoping so big time, although if you can bet stupid money like that they clearly must have enough of it.

Nadal vs Federer, for me has to be Fed at the prices, taken him at 3.25 and 2.06 on the +4.5 games handicap.

Any other opinions out there?

JCM, could not agree more about the bloke who had 120k on Djokovic, anyone could see it was a dicey 1.33 shot! He could also have had 1.39 on Betfair so he's an even bigger idiot!

05-06-2011, 09:43 AM
Really feel for that guy but personally, I would have stopped at 100k.

Especially if you were looking to buy a property - 100k is tidy deposit!

And as someone else has said - Fed may not be what he once was and Djokovic was on a stunning run of form, but anyone who stakes a six-figure sum against Fed at odds of 1.33 is a fool.

cpfc4evandeva
05-06-2011, 09:47 AM
The more I think about this the more I don't get why he did it. Surely to win 26 in a row he must have been hugely selective and done his homework on all the bets.

He must have known that this bet was too big a risk to take on for the sake of 100k.

Still, it's easy to say all this after the event ;)

Edit - just seen this in the sun's report of it -

'He had said his bet on Djokovic, who had won 43 matches consecutively, would be his last punt.'

Agree about Federer, playing the better tennis at the moment as well, just a question of mentally whether he'll crumble in fron of Nadal on clay, but don't think that Nadal is feeling quite as invincible as previous years.

Looking at the Wimbledon odds, Del Potro has been poor on grass so far in his career, but 16-1 for a player of his quality and a serve as big as his is quite tempting. I've put another fiver on.

I know all that. I actually did watch a bit of that Pironkova vs Serana match. Yes, Pironkova did win a set against Serena's first match back from injury and look what happen when Serena started to get back, she fell apart. I'm not saying this is a banker, but I feel Giorgi, who's full of confidence and in the form of her life (was ranked 300+ at start of year and now on the verge of cracking Top 100 if she can maintain her form), is actually a good chance here.

I hate using the word 'value bet' because it's not necessary a 'winning bet'. Anyway, I'm completely wrong and she has already been out-classed by Pironkova, but in women tennis, upsets are not uncommon.

Good work FN, tricky target you've set yourself! Sounds like fun though so if you don't mind I'd like to try as well

I'll start with these (the Tipsarevic game is 1 game in but as it's overnight trust it's not classed as in play)

Tipsarevic carrying an injury up against one of the biggest serves on a hopefully skiddy surface

10 on Karlovic to beat Tipsarevic at 1.73 (Betfred)

Wallet = 10
Pending = 10
Record W-L = 0-0

Tipsarevic retires one set to nil down so this is a winner (Betfred pay out as long as one set completed)

Wallet = 27.30
Pending = 0
Record W-L = 1-0

Agree, had a touch, took a 2 loss on match result then backed Williams to get a profit on her if she wins (Likely now I think) and obviously a loss on KDK if she was to win

Backed Venus quite big at 1.7 to win the 1st set which also looks v. likely now!

This has happened so far....(Starting Bank 36 in Betfair & 15 Redbet(awful site but use for poker))

Redbet

1 x 10 fold = + 7.28
1 x 13 fold = + 25 (Should be, waiting on Anderson 3-0 up atm)
1 x 5 fold = Nailed on + 8.20

Betfair

36 on Murray -9.5 games vs GT = + 29.75
15 on GIORGI vs Pironkova = - 15
Greened Isner vs Mahut = + 8.94
25 on Williams to win 1st set vs KDK = - 25
I don't quite know how much I staked and layed and vica versa but ended up Williams vs kdk = + 17.35

One bet in play/pending 16.29 on Turnsunov at 1.73

Multiples on BF

3 Fold payed + 14.57
5 Fold again waiting on Anderson pays + 35.25

Not sure if anyone cares but thought I'd put them up anyway, not much bankroll management going on there either tbh! Put 15 of Redbet profit onto a treble (Hacken, Shamrock and St patricks) which lost, but going quite well at the mo.

'Roddick will now encounter Victor Hanescu, a player standing at 6'6. You would expect the Romanian to feel fully at home on grass but after growing up on clay, he's never fully adjusted to the surface and the third round is as good as Hanescu has done at Wimbledon.

Roddick has won all three of their previous matches without dropping a set and should book a third round spot with relative ease.'

Just read this about Hanescu vs Roddick.

I quite like Roddick -6.5 games based upon that and plus he played Beck in the previous round who is 35th in rankings? and is pretty decent on grass. Roddick dismissed him quite easily so small stakes I think.

Very disappointing as I have played poker on there for a long, long time now and have generated about €1.2k in rake this month for them.Tw@'s

Hoping Hanchutova wins (she is 1 set up) for a small accumulator for me:

Nadal, Murray, Monfils, Lopez, Fish, Williams & Raonic (void)

Got 4s minus the Raonic, so should add to the kitty.

Have they still not paid out? Sometime these things just take time.

If they haven't then email them citing their rule 5.3.1, if they still don't pay then threaten to take the case to IBAS, they are a member (as per this link http://www.ibas-uk.com/registeredOperators.php?start=w-z&bookId=720), who would 100% settle in your favour.

Looking at today's games I like

Shara to cover the handicap against Robson, she'll surely anihilate her, only B365 have that up so far so will hold back on that. Alternative is doubling up her to win 2-0 with Georges to beat Johannsen 2-0, should be about 1.68 once all bookies price up set betting

Ryan Harrison +6.5 to beat Ferrer at 1.91. Ferrer playing well but this is grass and Harrison had a great result against Dodig

Hewitt to beat Soderling at 3.8, Hewitt looked in good nick in the first round against a tricky opponent while Soderling looked very average against Petzschner

Think Lisicki might have a shout against Li Na but was thinking she would be bigger than 2.3

Goerges with early break :lux: :lux: :lux:

Roddick to win 3-0 pays + 12.25
Tursonov wins + 10.83

New bets for me

20.72 on Goerges 2-0 (BF)
4 fold 7.50 (RB) pays 45

Edit. Now Johansson breaks back, she was awful yday and v. lucky to win, just lose in straight sets and collect your prize money.

Seppi breaks back and Baghdatis serving to stay in the set. I still fancy Seppi annoyed I didn't take 7.8, 5 mins ago and now trade at 3.2 !

I fancy Tursonov over Melzer later as well.

Also one of my mates is playing in the doubles Thornley/ Rice against J.Murray/ Stakhovsky but have just dropped the 1st set 6-3.

I can just see her totally overpowering Robson and dropping 2 or 3 games, price has come in now to 1.75, though B365 are still 2.0 for under 16.5

Juan Martin Del Potro to win 3-1 @ 11/10

(NB: Don't be fooled by some of the Betfair hype - you can quite often get a better deal with bookies like Bet365 (and others) for in-play bets, and Betfair only offer a limited number of bets)

Hmm, if you're betting in running seriously (and I mean only making one or two bets in a match not multiple) then you either have to bet with Betfair or have about 7 or 8 funded accounts

Betfair isn't perfect but you are generally working on very small margins even after commission, and if you're making multiple bets then you can play around with your p/l in each market.

Plus for small stakes it's a lot more fun :D

Put 2 on Tsonga to win 3-1 after he lost the first set to Dimitrov.

Tried several times to put the bet on when it was 8/5, but it kept changing it to the same odds and not putting the bet on. Got it eventually at 21/20 after Tsonga broke in the first set.
