LINIGHAN SET FOR UNITED
OPTA
Monday, October 16, 2000
SECOND DIVISION strugglers Oxford United are hopeful of completing the signing of veteran defender Andy Linighan in time for the player to take his place in the side to face Luton Town at the Manor Ground on Tuesday.
The 38-year-old has been available for transfer at Crystal Palace after an alleged bust-up with chairman Simon Jordan on a team-building holiday to Spain.
The former Norwich and Arsenal star, who has made over 600 appearances in his career, held talks with United at the weekend and he is expected to sign soon.
Oxford are in desperate need for an experienced player to organise their shaky defence and it seems that Linighan fits the bill.
