Starting today, anyone bet on this?

Have been successful backing Cavendish in the sprints a couple times last year. I must admit I just got hooked after seeing Renshaw doing the headbutt move!

Go Cadel! :p

Evans is my pick of the all-rounders too, hoping the Giro took it out of Contador as he had to use reserves and Andy Schleck's build up has been poor to say the least.

As for today's stage, Gilbert could easily attack and go for it, guess it's why he is favourite. Hushovd has targeted this and looks his best chance to wear the yellow with the up-hill finish. Cav could try his luck, he is a big price.

Gesink is 25/1 for the Yellow Jersey on B365, which makes him a decent each way bet in my view. Pays 1/4 1-2-3.

I didn't put him in my 1-2-3 on the Tour thread but I expect the HTC team to be riding for Goss and not the Cav in the opening stage. goss has got a real chance but my money would still be on Hushovd.

Gilbert's price (2.10) is way too short for such a quality field in the first stage!

Hushovd is a proven product but Goss has the unknown factor. But Goss has enjoyed a great year and I really can see him causing an upset today.

Talked myself into it, adding a small bet on Goss @ $13 to win today. :D

A great back to lay on Betfair in the Tour today. Contador's team are terrible at this discipline, they're out first (in 15mins), Andy Schlek's team are better (still not great) but not out till 4.30pm, an hour and a half after Contador will finish.

Back Schlek now at 2.28 and I really can't see any downside and if after 90mins Contador's team look to have posted a rubbish time then Schlek may well go odds on before he starts for a nice win, that's my plan anyway, made a fairly bad ricket in running last night (drunken betting never a good idea, not helped by the commentator saying Schlek finished with Contador, well I think he did anyway!!) so hopefully this will get me that green back

It was still better than I had hoped, still hopeful Schlek will hit something near evens though might have to leave the bet longer than I had hoped and wait till they are under way

Cunego is 55.0 on Betfair for the stage victory which is silly odds compared to the rest of the market. Have backed him at that, if he is looking good mid race that will drop so worth laying. I actually think he has a good shout today

Betfred have deal on stage betting that if you place a win single and your rider comes 2nd then they will refund the bet as a free bet

Therefore I'm on for Stage 5: -

Feillu @ 20s
Rojas @ 20s

Well so far the main market move has been for Evans, started at about 33/1 on Betfair, now into 6/1, have to say the one who appears to be going under the radar is Schlek, barely mentioned during racing (unlike Contador!), and has drifted out from 2.2 after stage 1 to back to his SP of 3.25. Personally I would sooner have money on Evans than either of the favs whom I both think have question marks over them, will be intersting to see if the odds remain constant till they reach the mountains in about 5 stages time.

Am amazed that Cavendish is as short as he is (4/6ish) for stage 7 considering the profile of the stage today, looks ready made for a breakaway isn't it and if not the finish isn't exactly flat is it?

Or am I being naive? Never claimed to be an expert on cycling but seems like a cast iron lay to me

The way Cav won the intermediate yesterday it's easy to see why is price is so short...buying money, lump on!! :D

Chris Boardman on Twitter:

"Rode down the final decent today, steepest yet, very twisty under trees, good surface but super technical, can't see it staying together... whoever gets to the bottom, even with just a few seconds, won't get caught"

If one of the good decenders goes over the top first lump on? Might be a good price especially if one of the sprinters is not far behind, though sprinters tend to decend best

Finbar
20-07-2011, 02:12 PM
Right, convinced they won't get caught, so have the following greens, I know for a fact* that Casar is a top decender so he's my man with the other greens as my break evens

*I have a vague recollection of hearing that, it's been quite a boozy night...
