Betting for me is a hobby. I don't believe in any get rich quick theorys. Horse racing is to unpredictable. I only bet on horses occasionally and i usually follow other peoples selections!
However English football is where i prefer to concentrate my theorys towards. I followed a pattern last season which seemed to do well for me. Again don't expect to get rich quick but i thought i did quite well.

What i do is select either 4 to 5 teams to win each week. If i have 4 selections i do a yankee. 5 is a Lucky 15. If i get two selections wrong then i should get my money back. If i get one wrong then i do quite well. If i get all correct then i have a good day! I did hit a few good days last season.
Getting less than my money back was quite rare.

Only bet as much as you can afford.

My selections will appear here normally the day before the fixtures are played.

My selections for SATURDAY 6th August...
Brighton, Nottm For, Charlton, Brenford and Gillingham.
I added them to my betslip then selected 10 x trebles.
How much you put on is your choice.

I don't normally go for single matches but every now and then if i fancy something at a decent price then i'll put it up.
Middlesboro v Portsmouth. Boro have sold most assetts and are mostly left with the Scottish players that Gordon Strachen bought and no one else wants. Mowbray did a good job towards the end of the season but further players have been sold. Portsmouth though go into the season for the first time in awhile not having sold players during the close season and have even added a few. So i'm tipping an away win with odds of 11/4 looking attractive.

You never know how things will go especially at this stage of the season with no form to go by. But i predict scores on another website and so far i got Crawley right last week and Blackpool correct last night. Don't lose faith the because sometimes things don't turn out quite as we expect. Just keep following this thread check how i do over the longer term.

Thank you for the tips, gone along with the same as yours except changing the Brighton win to a Burnley win,

(mainly becuase I hate Brighton) but also Billy Sharp at Donny I think will be too much for Brighton.

Only not a good change because they broke Sharp's bloody leg! Prior to that is was going to be spot on.

Oh well 12.67 back from a 20.00 stake so not the end of the world.

What did you make from your 4 out of 5?

I see both these games as touch and go so to risky to put money on. I pushed i'd go for West Ham to beat Cardiff.

You were right. I think Cardiff will have a good season but i wouldn't have took them to win this one. Never bet just for the sake of betting. Certain games i look at them then leave them.

I am not advising any bets for the Carling Cup. The odds just arn't worth it and you don't know who are taking the game seriously.

andysafc
10-08-2011, 05:39 PM
Football betting always gives you short odds so i will not select teams who are massivly odds on. For example: 1/4 or 1/3 on are not worth it. Therefore i guess my selections always come with an element of risk.
I often like to dip into the non league as they often provide better value.

SELECTIONS FOR SATURDAY 13/8/11
Arsenal
Nottm Forest
Portsmouth
Boreham Wood
Dover

There are two aways in there which i don't normally use but i have a strong feeling for them. Arsenal drew 4-4 at Newcastle last season after being 4-0 ahead and i can't see them slipping up again. I'm doing the same bet as last week 10 x trebbles.

Interested in the non league ones. What is your reasoning?

Because i study all the leagues from the Premier down to the Blue Square North and South. I find games are a little more predictable at the lower level than they are towards the top where anyone can beat anyone.

I really like Fulham today to get off to a fast start at home having already had a few competitive games in UEFA cup qualifying against what was a pretty poor Villa side much of last year, who have lost Young and Downing, although have brought in N'Zogbia.

I can never resist, but normally regret, going the accumulator route.

Last week I went for
CRAWLEY - WIN
SHEFF UTD -WIN
SOUTHAMPTON - WIN
IPSWICH - LOSE
WEST HAM - WIN

Typical :)

This week my bets are
Gillingham
Sheff Utd
Preston
Reading
Chelsea

I also have put a couple of quid on a double away result as I thought the odds were good:
Blackpool to beat Brighton
Scunthorpe to beat Charlton

Maybe it is my heart hoping rather than being sensible, but 2 returns over 30 so worth the gamble :)

I have a bit of money (more than I'd ever usually bet) on Burton to beat Plymouth.

There are talks of a player strike at Argyle, and it reminds me of when bookies weren't aware of a strike at Weymouth a couple of years ago and lost a shedload of money (Weymouth team full of kids lost 0-9 if I recall) and closed betting on all their future games that season.

Betting hasn't closed on this game because a strike hasn't yet been announced, but Argyle are winless in the league as it is so it's not the most brave bet.

Am I going to hell for trying to capitalise on a club's financial meltdown? I am, aren't I. Bollocks.

Huddersfield, Bury and Shrewsbury straight treble.
Also correct score singles doubles and trebles on the same games. The only one that let me down was shrews - I had them as 3-1 and it was 3-2. Anyway. Managed a nice 170 odd.

I like doing doubles, trebles, four-folds, etc as if one/two/three teams let you down (as is normally the case,) you still win some money back as opposed to losing it all. If taking this approach though, one thing you need to make sure is the odds on the teams you pick are all good - all my selections odds are evens or above (apart from Man U who are just below evens.) This means even if some teams let you down, you still accumulate a nice amount from the remaining teams.

Better weekend with 3/5.

Not so much value in Championship this weekend but some cracking odds in Premier League:

Everton at Arsenal 6.50
Fulham at Swansea 2.60
Chelsea v Man City 2.40

Reading v West Ham 2.50
Watford v Leeds 2.60

So far this season it has worked well betting against Ipswich and for Watford. My worst bets have been backing against Brighton who always seem to win when I need them to lose.

Chelsea at 2.40 at home always seemed a good bet. Good odds being offered against the form teams this weekend:
QPR 7.50 v Man U
Sunderland 9.00 at Spurs
Arsenal 5.00 at Man City

Not much in the Championship, but going for
Watford 3.80 at Blackpool
Burnley 3.00 at Brighton.

Sunderland's late winner makes it a very good weekend on top of Bristol City's victory.

I will not be betting tomorrow as two games in such quick succession always throws up odd results and I will not be betting next weekend because the sides teams put out in the FA Cup are so understrength.

I will be back for weekend of 14 Jan.

There seems very little around this weekend. Is it just Gamebookers or have all bookies trimmed their odds?

Anyway, I have found 4 bets:
Bristol City at 3.2 to beat Brighton
Blackburn at 2.8 to beat Fulham
Newcastle at 1.75 to beat QPR
Wigan at 8.00 to beat Man City

Shows odds in The sun today for top scoring team in the FA Cup replays this week on Bet 365 market

Odds shown in paper are:
Bolton 12/5
Millwall 7/2
Qpr 13/2
Leicester 7/1
Wolves 9/1
Brighton 11/1
Wrexham 14/1
Birmingham 20/1
MK Dons 22/1
Forest 33/1
Macclesfield 40/1
Dagenham 50/1
1/4 odds for top 3

Quite fancy QPR tonight as just cannot see Bolton or Millwall scoring too many although they should win. QPR could ease through against the Dons though

CAN I FIND THE MARKET ON B365 THOUGH..........................NO!

Blackburn @ 6.50 at Everton (a) to follow up on last week
Bolton @ 5.50 v Liverpool (h)
Arsenal @ 2.75 v Man U (h) seem very long odds
Palace @ 4.75 v Blackpool (a)
Forest @ 5.25 v WHU (a) they can't be as bad as they appear

Ok... this seems to have earned me a couple of bob so far.

Not for the faint hearted as it means betting on Palace to fumble leads but since we seem to do it so often and it gives a little consolation.

Typically you can get odds on HT/FT betting of

Crystal Palace/Draw ~16/1
Crystal Palace/Opponent ~33/1

If you dabble a little 2 on at 16/1 and 1 at 33/1... I think we have given up a HT lead something like 5 times in 30 league matches now so the math is good. (-90 + 170)

muswell eagle
17-02-2012, 04:53 PM
I have tried some of this HT/FT betting, but on home clubs with odds to win 1.80 - 2.00 without success so far, although not for long enough to make me think it is neccessarily dud advice.

Last weekend was good for me with wins for Norwich and Blackburn: sorry for not posting my bets at the time.

This weekend I am making a foray into League 2 in search of value. My bets are:
Crewe (a) 4.75
Plymouth (a) 4.33
Burnley (a) 4.25
Tranmere (h) 3.50
Dagenham (h) 3.25

Quite speculative, but good value odds are more difficult to find in the lower divisions, probably because there is so much less money staked on these matches.

Plymouth saved me from complete disaster last week.

This week Palace are long at 5.50, also
Watford v Soton 3.50
Peterborough at Doncaster 2.90
Villa at Wigan 2.60
Arsenal v Spurs 2.40

Have had to scratch around again this week to find any value:

Walsall @ 3.50
Arsenal @ 3.75
Bristol C @ 4.00
Macclesfield & Northampton @ 5.25 each

It's been a while since I've bet against Ipswich but there was a time in October when it paid well
