View Full Version : Inter Milan to sack manager?

What is going on at Inter? Their manager could be sacked tomorrow after just 3 league games.

They lost 3-1 to newly promoted Novara tonight, 4-3 to Palermo at the weekend, drew 0-0 with Roma on the opening day and lost at home 1-0 to Trabzonspor in the Champions League.

Seems like they have fallen a long way since their Champions League success.

The manager isn't adapting to his new circumstances.

He's sticking to the 3-4-3 which has given him success in the past, even though Inter don't have the players to fit that system.

Serie A will, as ever, be very interesting this season. Milan and Napoli top two I suspect. It's become an unheralded league, but it's great to watch.

No wonder Inter are constantly losing if they are playing 3-4-3, most of the squad is still the same as when Mourinho was in charge which was used to playing 4-4-2.

Some of the signings pre season have been strange too... Selling Eto'o and bringing in Forlan, bringing in another Right Back when Zanetti and Maicon are at the club.

Inter have the players to still finish top 3 but at this rate they'll end up about 8th!

They look as much of a shambles as Arsenal. Players clearly don't believe in the manager or his crazy system.

You're right, imagine if Swansea had turned over Arsenal 3-1 last Saturday, exact same situation really.

Yeah that same Arsenal that struggled to beat Swansea at home - won with a freak goal - and then conceded 4 to Blackburn, a team comparable to Novaro. Knobhead

noticed since Trapattoni in 1991 they are on their 23rd manager, surely some kind of record?

Who's the knobhead?

If you mean me then you completely missed the point I was making.

And at least get the team name (Novara) right, before you go calling other people names. Quite frankly you've just made yourself look like a complete arsehole! :hi:

A loss to a newly promoted team, a loss to a team only in the Champions League because they replaced a team kicked out and he's had all of pre season to build a team. Most of the squad are still there who won the European Cup 16 months ago.

I'm intersted to know how the "talk" between Gasperini and Moratti went...

Apologies - I thought you were being sarcastic with the shocked smilie. Hands up I'm the knobhead.

Anyway at least Inter have done the right thing as it was plainly obvious that he was out of his depth. Arsenal seem intent on dragging their demise under Wenger out as long as possible

This is the real problem.
Claudio Ranieri is new coach and he prefers a classic 4-4-2.

Nothing official as yet... This was the latest on the Inter website...

"MILAN – F.C. Internazionale announces that this morning's training session at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti in Appiano Gentile was run by Daniele Bernazzani and Giuseppe Baresi.

The Club would like to thank Gian Piero Gasperini for the dedication he has shown in his work and regret having to end the relationship with the coach."

Inter are basically screwed because they don't have any wide midfield options, I imagine Gasperini was probably employing Full / Wing Backs as the wide men in his 3-4-3.

The Inter squad is as such (I appreciate players can play in more than one position, but I've put down their MAIN positions here) - New signings in Bold:

Julio Cesar - Goalkeeper
Emilano Viviano - Goalkeeper
Paolo Orlandoni - Goalkeeper
Luca Castellazzi - Goalkeeper

Ivan Cordoba - Centre Back
Javier Zanetti - Right Back
Lucio - Centre Back
Maicon - Right Back
Andrea Ranocchia - Centre Back
Walter Samuel - Centre Back
Christian Chivu - Left Back
Jonathan - Right Back
Yuto Nagatomo - Left Back

Dejan Stankovic - Centre Mid (Att)
Thiago Motta - Centre Mid (Def)
Wesley Sneijder - Centre Mid (Att)
Ricardo Alvarez - Centre Mid (Att)
Andrea Poli - Centre Mid (Def)
Esteban Cambiasso - Centre Mid (Def)
Joel Obi - Right Mid
Coutinho - Centre Mid (Att)
Sulley Muntari - Centre Mid

Giampaolo Pazzini - Striker
Diego Forlan - Striker
Diego Milito - Striker
Mauro Zarate - Striker

Probably won't happen but the Metro this morning was saying that Inter still want Fabio Capello, even if not now, if Ranieri gets the job he'll probably be looking over his shoulder the whole time after Euro 2012 once Capello leaves the England job.

Trouble is Ranieri now has to deal with the same players until January, and judging by comments coming out of the club over the summer it may mean people leaving before anyone new can come in.

4-4-2:

Julio Cesar

Maicon-Lucio-Chivu-Zanetti (c)

R.Alvarez-Sneijder-Cambiasso-Stankovic

Forlan-Milito

Would have to be my starting 4-4-2 at the moment.

I think that was doomed from the start to be fair purely because of the Milan links. Eat-a-Lotti's association with Milan runs far longer than Leonardo's I'm sure.

I dunno. I think the fans and press make more of it that the clubs and players do.

The Milan derby is not as fierce as many make it out to be... You're more likely to get mocked if you are an opposition fan than beaten up or attacked, that's not to say some Ultra's would probably take great pleasure in having a pop.

But certainly some of the players who've crossed the divide in the recent past haven't really settled that well.

Interesting piece from Calcio Italia...

"Gian Piero Gasperini asks “if Inter didn’t believe in my style of football, then why did they choose me?”

The Coach was sacked this week after picking up just one point from his five official games, making way for Claudio Ranieri.

“President Massimo Moratti is and remains an exceptional man,” Gasperini told Secolo XIX newspaper.

“The same goes for the players. Wesley Sneijder stands out, as he came to say goodbye and I’ll keep between us what we said. That really wasn’t the problem.”

Gasperini explains the squad that was put together simply did not fit the 3-4-3 system he has used throughout his career.

“Sneijder is a champion, but I don’t use a trequartista, so I tried playing him deeper, then a bit higher, closer to the goal. I tried everything, but none of it worked.

“I thought that things would develop over the summer. I know the transfer market has certain requirements and time restraints, but before bringing anyone in we had to sell some players.

“I make my decisions, but I respect the club’s role. It did take over a month to sell Samuel Eto’o and that was torture, but we knew with that amount of money that it couldn’t end any other way.

“Nonetheless, I thought that after Eto’o was sold, we would make other transfers. Once he was gone, I requested only two players: Ezequiel Lavezzi and Rodrigo Palacio.

“If we didn’t have enough money to spend, then we could’ve sold Sneijder, Goran Pandev (who was instead ‘gifted’ on loan to Napoli), Macdonald Mariga and Sulley Muntari.

“With two wide attackers, plus Diego Milito or Giampaolo Pazzini in the centre, there would’ve been no problems. They’d play 30 games each between Serie A, the Champions League and Coppa Italia.

“Instead we signed Diego Forlan. He is another champion, both on the field and off. I thought of playing him wide left and Sneijder could start from that position too. At the end of the day, someone had to stay on the bench.

“My real problem was in midfield,” continued Gasperini. “I immediately saw problems in the middle, as there were players of extraordinary quality, but battle-worn and ageing.

“I even asked, why did we buy Juraj Kucka only to leave him at Genoa for six months? He has the physically strong characteristics that certainly aren’t the same as those of Andrea Poli.”

Ultimately, the Coach puts the blame on the Nerazzurri for not listening to his requirements.

“I know results decide everything, but Inter knew my system was 3-4-3. It’s not as if I don’t know any other tactics, but I believe that this system gets the best results out of my teams.

“Everyone knew I intended to play this way, but it wasn’t enough and I am not so arrogant as to make demands. I explained it when I spoke to the Inter directors three times.

“This is why I thought the controversy over the tactics was a means to an end. If Inter didn’t believe in my style of football, then why did they choose me?”"
