View Full Version : Millwall v Palace (New Years Eve) - sold out

Tickets been on sale at Millwall since last Wednesday. So where is our 4k allocation:)
We should all be up for this one, better than going to Southampton Boxing day with no Rail service.
We are due a result there and for once I think we can rely on the team turning up.

Lot of talk about Millwall's support on here this weekend.
Let's see if we can sale our initial 2.2K allocation within three days and request the lower.
Time to stand up people.

If it had been on New Years Day, I'd say there would be absolutely no chance we'd sell more than 2,200.
Due to the fact it's on New Years Eve (How good would a win be to kick start the night?), we really should be looking to sell more than that.
That's what I would have posted prior to Saturday's game. After seeing a pitiful 15,000 in attendance I can't us requesting the lower tier, sadly.
ANDYEAGLE
28-11-2011, 02:04 PM
To be fair we did sell out the top tier on New Years Day last year. I know it was only 2 days before the match, but we may have taken another hundred or so.
Be interesting to see our turnout as we seem to be getting a bigger away following this year. At the end of the day though it is what the team does what matter I would love a result there regardless of the turnout.
We are certainly owed one.
Oh south london
28-11-2011, 03:09 PM
We will not be allowed the lower tier. If we are getting our allocation limited at places like Watford then i don't see how the same will not apply for the Millwall game.

Ordinarily I would agree with your logic of comparisons, however this goes out the window where Millwall away is concerned. The theory behind this has been flogged to death elsewhere - refer to equivalent thread last year.

Just thinking about it, (see what you've done now!) I would hazard a guess that Old Firm games may be a good source for this. Scotland has had New Years Day as a Bank Holiday long before England (commenced 1974) and the Old Firm regularly played on New Years Day. Not sure what would happen if NYD fell on a Sunday.

Millwall took just over 100 to leeds last week apparently.I'm not one who really gets into arguments about who takes how many to who's ground, but for a group of supporters who pride themselves on how hard they think they are,in the words of danny dyer, that is an embarrassing melt in the extreme.

Fairness to the millwall fans they boycotted the Leeds game, still doesn't take away the fact they only turn up for big games.
104 Millwall fans at Leeds, though it was a bubble with plenty of restrictions in place. But I think even they would admit that was a piss poor showing.
Mind you, we should be selling 2,000 tickets at Millwall to be honest.

To be honest I am surprised any Millwall fans turn up at Leeds. Nowdays it is down to just a few coaches. There are plenty of reasons to knock Millwall, but the turnout at Leeds is not one.
I still think we will sell out at Millwall, but whatever I am more interested in the performance.

Not into any dick waving about who is the 'best' myself. The only claims I see on here (other than from you) are about the noise our support often give. It ain't half bad - not always fantastic but generally better than many.

At the end of the day it's a pain in the arse and is in no way an enjoyable experience, the police build it up and treat it for far more than it is and who likes waiting around in the cold, being pelted with coins on the way to the station??
I might well go, but for once I'm quite happy either way........

It's a grim day out.
Drink in pub nowhere near the area, get on train, get off train, walk down an alleyway and enter ground.
It's so f*cking sterile until you get in the ground that it doesn't even feel like a derby.

It's only the 10th and the match isn't until the 31st. We have just paid a small fortune to go to Old Trafford and had to find money for away trips to Forest, Southampton, Millwall, Derby and Cardiff plus home games. Give people a chance.

Tried to buy three Millwall tickets before the Derby home game but the box office wouldn't have it because only two of us were ST holders. The other was a member but still no dice.
Got home after the game, tried the online system and found that it would let me buy a third ticket for the member, so placed the order for the three tickets.
Over a week later, tickets not yet received. Was trying not to worry about it yet as the box office have obviously been pretty busy with the Cardiff games etc. Heading home from Forest today, got a call from my member friend who informed me that the tickets had been sent to his address.  :D

This sums it up for me. I went there back in 2006 and was totally unimpressed by the whole set up (espeically standing in the rain for at least 30mins after the game). I'm not one bit scared of Millwall fans, most of my dad's side of the family (including my dad!) were all Millwall fans and so I have had plenty of stick. Yes, the whole "Nigel" thing does wind me up sometimes as we do have our fair share of geeks, but overall I am proud of being a Palace fan and glad I didn't join the the dark side.
They do have a fair amount of genuine decent fans but they also have more than their fair share of morons and I am genuinly glad our fans aren't like them....one thing though, if anyone ever hits me then I would hit them back, and if I ever saw Palace fans in trouble then I would help them out. Millwall sold their allocation in 3 days ffs, it takes us 3 weeks just to get up to a thousand.

I will go to Millwall but it one of the least enjoyable away matches. Nothing to do with their fans but it is so sterile. What do all of you do before the game? How many of those questionning other fans go to a pub near the ground and have a drink? Or do you have a drink at Selhurst or NJ and then hold your bladder until you get to Sth Bermondsey and walk down the alleyway and into the ground? The truth is compared to say, Watford, Derby and Blackpool it is not an interesting or an enjoyable day out.

This will sell out. As has been said palace fans have had a lot to shell out in recent weeks. Once everyone gets paid before xmas they will go. It seems that those banging on about it are young with little or no responsabillities. Those of us with bills to pay have other priorities than saving some money that we normally spunk up the wall to go footy. We can't say 'Oh, I wont pay the electric this month so that I can afford a ticket for millwank'.
We will never be allowed the lower tier so I have no idea why some are banging on about it. As I have said before they opened it twice in recent years and it kicked off so that is that.

How much should we sell? They will not open the bottom tier so we are not going to get more than 2.2k (ish). We sold out the upper tier last year didn't we? My understanding is that Millwall are very reluctant to sell the lower tier now and that they did not sell it to WHU. I think someone mentioned on here that they do a risk assessment and rightly or wrongly (wrongly IMHO) they would not sell it to us even if there was demand because we have in the recent past run on the pitch.

Since when did you become the Mexican Horse?
WE sold it out last year (and imo is was a much worse date - hungover?) I never bothered getting my ticket until very close to the date. Had planned to get tickets at the boxing day game but it was called off :(

You seem to have quite a chip on your shoulder about our visits to Millwall. Chill out there is plenty of time to get tickets.
ask yourself why many palace fans go missing for this fixture. safest ground in the country and nearest away trip. 99% more likely to kick off at other venues. charlton/QPR are further away and sell out much livelier than millwall. if brighton was this fixture new years eve do you think there will still be tickets remaining? nah. therefore our support against millwall both away and home where again a lot of our fans go missing is poor wouldnt you agree?

Yes, it is just one of the least interesting away days from the experience perspective. Nothing to do these days with Millwall's fans (like it was in the 70s/early 80s) but just a sterile day out. I don't know why yourself and Mexican Horse keep droning on about it.

The excuse of not being able to drink near the ground is a cringe worthy excuse.
You can't drink near the ground at OT if your away fan, yet we still managed to take 6K up there at £42 a pop and £££ more for travel and hotels etc.
You can drink before hand in LB and get the shuttle service to SB which takes a grand total of 5 mins. No longer a journey than the walk from South Norwood to Selhurst...

Indeed that is a piss poor excuse. Millwall is actually a good day out if you want a drink. Either beers in East Croydon then a late train to South Bermondsey with a can or drink in London Bridge where there are some great pubs and places to eat. And you can always get a beer before the match and at halftime in the Den as well. It does astound me that Brighton was so in demand yet we struggle to sell a few 1000 for this, I know which match is higher risk.
Just got mine. Asked how many we've sold they said 1000.

HAHAHAHA defended? From what?
how ridiculous.
Christmas is an expensive time of year. We have just played Manchester United away where we took 5,000.
We have a two legged semi final against Cardiff which has cost me in the best part of £130 already.
We are playing a team top of the league on Boxing Day which will probably be far more entertaining as a game.
I couldn't really give a **** about Millwall and I've made the choices of the games I wish to go to.

Still 2 weeks to sell the rest. Plenty of time. People seem to be making the Cardiff game priority at moment. A lot of games and a lot of money for people to fork out at the moment. If this had been a Easter fixture it would be sold by now.

Millwall away always generates plenty of debate on the board and the theory behind our poor turnout has been flogged to death.
But look at the numbers ......... how many ST holders have we got? Is it 9,000? Based on that and Jamie's forecast of 1500 then 5 out of 6 ST holders can't be bothered to travel to our nearest rivals for a NYE derby match.

Agree 100%.
I've never missed a Millwall game and never will do out of a matter of principle.
People try and save face my saying who gives a f**k about what Millwall fans think of us. Well I do, when we dont sell out - we look proper two bob. Im proud to be a Palace fan and proud of our away fans, it's positive to see opposition fans comment on our support. Struggling to sell out our nearest away game shows we have a large % of pathetic twats amongst our support base who are too scared to go...especially when there is massive demand for tickets at places such as Peterbrough, Charlton and Watford.
I blame the carnage after the 4-1 game where we took a big following but it all went a big pete tong outside. That was years ago though now, and even the most timid amongst our support would have a hassle free day out the way it is now.
I reckon we will sell out eventually, but we should really be selling this one out a lot quicker and places demand to open the lower tier. Police might say no, but even if it was opened up, I doubt we'd fill both upper and lower.

Disappointing that we don't take more to this - as it's an easy, local game - but I can understand people not being that excited by it. As much as I dislike them as a club, it very rarely has a big game feel to it.
Maybe partly because the team very rarely treat it as such... :hmph: ;)
