FIFA is dropping a requirement that ticket holders going to matches at the World Cup finals have their name printed on the tickets, an official from the Korea World Cup Organising Committee said on Friday.
The official said the named ticket scheme, aimed at preventing ticket sales on the black market and as a security measure, would be scrapped to prevent ticket turmoil with just a week to go before the tournament kicks off.
"It's not officially announced yet. But putting a holder's real name on the ticket is no longer valid now, even though FIFA still wants to keep the naming principle," an official from the committee told Reuters. FIFA's spokesman in Seoul was not immediately available.
Having a name printed on a ticket has added to printing and distribution problems and there have also been complaints over the complex procedure to change a holder's name on a ticket, the official said.
