Betting Masters 2011 Christmas Knockout [Archive]

Right, introducing the inaugural Betting Masters Christmas Knockout

The format is very much a work in progress and if something isn't working am happy to tweak it once it's started.

Looks like we'll have over 16 players so there will also be a plate competition for those knocked out before the 1/4 finals (assuming folk want this)

Now that I've worked out how to post up screenshots of the draw taken from Excel

One issue am thinking about is that of people saving all their bets till the last minute. I don't think PMing me bets is practical (as I would need to be permanently on line!) but I think a no duplicate / no v v short odds (1.5?) rule is all we can do really.

Right proposed format, am expecting we'll get between 17 and 32 entrants

Each match gets longer the closer to the final we get
No odds shorter than 1.5 (meaning fewer late tactics and more thought required)
In the event of a tie the player with the biggest odds single winner goes through, in the event of a 0-0 draw there is a 5 bet one day shootout with the following round delayed for the affected players by 1 day

Aside from the minimum odds all other rules are as per normal Betting Masters. So all bets are 10pt bets

Any disputes settled by me (though I'll go with the majority opinion if poss) though if it involves me then Stig is judge and jury

All times are based on UK of course and all bets must be settled by midnight of the latter date

Are there too many bets in each match? Midweek 2nd round is 3 days, the final will have a full programme of footy on New Years Day and there will be plenty of horses / darts / footy all over the festive period. Happy to reduce the below numbers though if needs be. Opinions please (if minimum odds are 1.5 then too few bets might risk 0-0 draws)

1st round (last 32) 10 bets running from Sat 17th to Sunday 18th Dec
2nd round (last 16) 13 bets running from 19th to 21st Dec
1/4 finals 13 bets running from 22nd to 24th Dec
Semi finals 17 bets running from 26th to 29th Dec
Final 18 bets running from 30th Dec till 1st Jan

Draw will be done on Thursday night (UK time) by myself and StuNick, there will probably only be a few 1st round games with most people getting byes to the 2nd round.

Will also have a couple of spare places in the draw for anyone who wants to enter on Friday, once midnight comes and goes then the competition is closed to new entrants

Just knocked up a spreadsheet, if I post the whole draw up it comes up a bit small so will just do it in part like this

and yes I think the 1.5 will make it a very different comp and hopefully less about tactics, more about finding good priced winners, 3.5 or bigger is taking it a bit too far though :D

Right, will do the draw with Stu tonight or tomorrow morning (Aus time) so that it's up here by Friday morning UK time. Will PM all those with 1st round matches, the majority will go into round 2 for a Monday start.

We'll put all the names in a hat (or hat something like that!) and assign names to numbers so no advantage for early entrants of course. There are 3 late entry spots just in case anyone wants to join in on Friday (or I've forgotten anyone)

Just me vs Stig to sort out, darts just finished 1st set, outsider French took it and holds the highest outshot with 60, very unlikely that mark will stand till the end of the match

I've laid Walsh for £200 at 1.11 so hoping he loses in 3 sets (as have also done the leg unders in real life) but wins a leg with a big outshot... I can dream!!

Are the odds just added together like an accumulator to get the forecast odds? I have placed this at SJ as well so can take the winnings if it wins if not? They do not show estimated return at mo so cannot say...<confused>

I asked Stan James on the live chat on their website - I got this response "We receive the forecast returns from the racecourse in question. A forecast is not set on the prices of the horse but from a dividend at the racecourse."

So I guess if it wins I post up the bet I placed for the odds?

Just went to pick up my winnings on Diamond Charlie at Jennings and they only knocked off 25p in the pound. Sporting Life website appears to agree - "(3) Mottley Crewe, (6) Lucky Art (USA)All withdrawn - deduction of 25p in the pound for Board Prices" - I think the 25p covers both rather than being 25p each?

Could do with a ruling so that me and Beckenham Boy know where we stand going into tomorrow?
