Looking in my crystal ball I can see a large amount of egg coming towards Jordan's face, who's he kidding.

Well if you had a magnifying glass, your dick would still look larger than your football club saddo.

Pen versus sword? No contest when dealing with retards.

Great thing about the internet is you can insult people without the fear of getting a fist in your face.

That's pretty much it, but if you want to be witty why resort to violence?

At the end of the day we are all footie fans but if you insist on taking on the mightier wit of us palace fans you have to expect to get shot down in flames. Punching someone is all you can resort to - which is a bit sad really if you think about it. Nip out an buy a thesaurus (its a book with big words in it)

And to think that I protected two of your lot from one of our nuttier fans last season.

Its not me you're angry with, its yourself.

Chill out - enjoy!

Whilst we might not be the fourth biggest we're still bigger than Charlton and you know it! That's why all you charlton fans can't resist coming on our web site time and time again. That's why your end of season review talked not of Charlton's admittably credable championship winning year and promotion into the Premeriship, but of a certain South London club from Selhurst who are undesputedly the biggest club in this region. Thats why you all give it large about Kitsons goal at Selhurst last season, as if that game was your cup final, but we don't really care.

You are better on the field than us, but you all still have that same old chip on your shoulder and an inferiority complex that's just so big, so things haven't change since the old days then have they!

Wish I`d seen "one of your nuttier fans" then at least I could have spanked him. As it was it seems they were all hiding as usual. It was nice of you though to protect the two Charlton fans, what were they pensioners?

Calling someone a "retard" will provoke a reaction, something to think about when your old enough to into pubs.
As for the old chestnut of pen v sword history kicks that one into touch, no race as far as I know built an empire by writing about it.
Anyway I never said I would punch someone I was stating a fact about the internet. It really has become an abusive phone call where you can rant an abuse people in the knowledge you won't get caught.

John - you started it!

You sought out this site to give us grief. I've never been on the Charlton BBS, nor can I be arsed to. I am only concerned with our club, not in the least interested in slagging off other clubs.

But, if people do come on here mouthing off they should expect a bit of verbal in return.

Its all harmless fun at the end of the day.

PS - Thanks for the comment about being too young to go to the pub!

Even though he was an enemy of mine, I had to admit that what he had accomplished was a brilliant piece of strategy. First, he punched me, then he kicked me, then he punched me again.

Lets have a proper discusion / debate.

Spanish I think your find that Palace have a far bigger fan base than Charlton. OK so Charlton's achievments on the field have gained them new supporters, lots. After visiting the valley last year there seemed to be masses of kids for example. Also the very good publicity campaign over the last few seasons from Charlton and the fact that so many London supporters either are damn fickle or just want to watch Premiership football, has meant that now your doing well and your gates have escalated.

But lets be honest your core support was tiny when the chips were down, whilst Palace through all the problems have still held on to a core 13,500. This through Goldjerk's stupidity and administration, through massive player sales and through having a Premiership club sharing our stadium. So if you put it in those terms our support is brilliant.

If Palace can sort things out ,and yes I think we can learn from Charltons transformation, there's no reason why we to cannot be attracting massives crowds every week.

Good post AJP, although I think you'd write better without those rose tinted specs. There are two points that I would correct you on.

Firstly, you stated that there were many children at the Valley when you visited. I don't know the ratio to adults nor do I feel like I'm in some sort of kindergarten, however what is certain is that for clubs to evolve there has to be an introduction of the younger generation. I presume you agree with this. You say that our core support was tiny, I would not say it was tiny, nor would I say they were all attracted due to our impressive performances on the field. For example in 94/95 we averaged 10,211 and finished 15th in the league,95/96 we averaged 11,185 finishing 6th,96/97, averaged 11,081 finishing 15th, naturally with our promotion season the average (13,275) escalated, however it is worth noting that the average was capped at that low level due to 14,000 capacity we had at the time. I trust these figures dispell the fact that all our supporters are glory hunters.

You then make reference to your marvellous support during Goldbergs reign. Yes I agree your support was good, however your demise was not comparable with our one, first and foremost you did not have to travel every other weekend through SE London to get to a home game, a journey that by car took an hour and by train 40 odd minutes. Secondly, when in administration, you knew by going you also contributed to the cause, for Charlton it was different, they were not all behind the board. I do not understand your relevance comparing ground sharing with the Dons, I would not have thought that you'd have lost support to them, premier or not.

One pointer, you averaged 16,000 odd last season, interesting to read the leaflet handed out on Mar 25th stating only an incredibly low figure had pledged support to CPST ! Not all like you then ?

And thank you for joining the few Palace fans who actually recognise that we have set a presedent for clubs who do not have the financial backing, such as the likes of Arsenal or Spurs, and can turn around misfortune into fortune and success.

Lastly, wanna make some money, put it on us staying up, we've been pretty impressive all pre season and our additions will help us maintain Premiership status next season. ;-)

In response to Spanish, Of course I'm not against the encouragement of Kids going to Football. It is after all at the younger age when clubs like ours start to gain new supporters. However I did feel that the amount of Kids was more than normal at yours and it does show that whilst that can only be good for Charlton's future, you are a club with less older fans than your gates would suggest. The fact that Charlton's gates have escalated so much since that play off final win against Sunderland shows clearly that a lot of your fans have only been going since CAFC tasted the Premiership, that makes them fairweather fans. I remember the 1996 Play Off semi final at your place, Palace were given the whole away end. Yet there were still quite a lot of spare seats in the home areas of the ground, this for a very important match and at a time when Charlton had a good side. What this shows it that before your time in the Premier your support was nothing like it is now.

You talk about us not going through the troubles you had when you had to play at Selhurst etc. Ok so no we didn't have to leave our stadium but even so the solid 13,500 who turned up last season was extremly good and I doubt many other similar sized clubs could match that. Bolton and QPR who both did much better than us last season, especially Bolton who made the Play Offs, both got less adverage gates than us last year and have sold less season tickets for 00-01 season.

My reference to the WFC parasites was more based on their stay over the last decade at Selhurst. How youngsters from our catchment area have not gone and watched wfc. Whilst Wimbledon have been in the Premiership for all that time Palace have been at best a Yo Yo club and of course been through all the recent troubles. Yet we've not lost much potentual support to Dons. I think a lot of clubs would of done.

I think that when talkimg about CPST it is important ot remember that it raised one million quid, that can not be criticised and is a credit to all those who took part. Ok so you're right that it was not as well supported as it could of been. But then again your own Valley Party in the eighties, despite being extremly laudable was also only supported by a few supporters in an age when only a handful of your supporters of now used to go?

The Valley party gained 15,000 votes for an election in one single borough, the biggest vote for a single issue party at the time.

The VIP scheme raised £1.2m in the middle of a recession when the team had no ground and no guaranteed future.

You right AJP, not much of a response really.

09-08-2000, 02:20 PM
AJP, I don't want to agitate you unnecessarily seeing as you appear to be one of the few Palace fans able to hold a sane conversation. This is not meant to be Tit for Tat but I don't understand why you keep talking about our inflated crowds. I don't know of any club, be it non league, proffesional or even international, come to that, that do not attract interest through success. Charlton's gates have not doubled since we won that play off final ! For sure, it has got bigger, but that is a measure of our success. On the age thing, as someone who regularly attends home and away matches I would go as far to say that the average age of a Charlton supporter is probably in the mid twenties.

On the local election thing, you have to remember that if you're not in the borough you cant vote ! Like Palace, we have many outer London based fans, particularly Kent and Sussex, with the odd wierd collection from Dorset that attend from time to time.

The point I made about our circumstances being different is that a certain amout of Charlton lifelong supporters felt that if they went to Palace they would aid the cause of the directors. Even still those who did not boycott returned a healthy average. Palace's predicament was different, and without your support, who knows ?

Finally, I don't know how you can quote on the numbers that voted in the election, that still go to watch Charlton, even I don't know that !
