That depends on how tough the course is over the weekend, if someone who has made the cut has a bad weekend they could finish on worse than -12

You really have it in for him based on some false view that he his arrogant when everyone else, to a man, says he isn't.

Would love to see Mickleson win and must admit he doesn't come across arrogant to me.
One Player that does come across arrogant to me personally is mcillroy. My 8 year old loves him but I can't stand the way he comes across and have it on very good authority that his not very well liked on tour, but I guess that's what makes him as good as he is

It's Augusta, not Addington Palace. Several other players from a similar position couldn't even keep the ball on that green
davemorris04

I have never seen Phil come across as arrogant when interviewed. However Westood does in pretty much every interview I see him in. "I have just got to get used to being the best golfer in the world" after becoming world number 1, "I'm too good to go my whole career without winning a major" after again bottling it during the Masters and "I didn't hit a bad shot all day but was just really unlucky" during the Open last year when he didn't even make the cut!!!
All this loving his just because he is English is pathetic.
Finbar
08-04-2012, 10:35 AM
Don't see Mickelson as arrogant either. When he shot a 74 in the first round but birdied the last he was just clearly excited that he still had a chance, not looking for excuses or implying he was too good to double bogey 2 holes in 3, just like someone who hadn't won a major would be that was pleased they hadn't made an idiot of themselves. Throws a ball to the crowd whenever he changes it and high fives anyone who wants to, and probably some that don't. Nice bloke, annoying cheerful yes but not arrogant in my book. Unlike Tiger.

Bit like a footballer kissing the badge...he plays the game very well. He's a PR machine, which he is very very good at.
Finbar
08-04-2012, 10:46 AM
He's not changed his manner since he started out so if it's kissing the badge I would say it's like a player who does it who has been at the same club his whole career, fair play!
Can you not say that any sportsman who is nice to the fans is just kissing the badge then?

1o under par for his last 24 holes, if Phil had not had such a poor start he'd already be out of sight. Amazing for a player who is 150th in the driving accuracy stats on tour. As for his persona, I've always felt he was a genuinely nice family man. Must be a huge mental burden to have top have contended with your wife AND mother both having breast cancer, and for a while he went through a lean spell, but he is clearly back to his best. I think today just depends on whether Hanson folds under the pressure, or if someone like Bubba can go on a run as to whether Phil can be stopped from getting his 4th green jacket.
Fat Andy
08-04-2012, 11:00 AM
You can get away with spraying it around off the tee quite a bit around Augusta. I think it's Mickelson's to lose. Would love Hanson to win, such a nice guy, but he's never been in this situation and playing alongside Phil in the final group he will do very well to go on and win it.

That's why Olazabal liked the masters -- because tee shots didn't have to be that accurate.

Right, after having a bit of a rip myself this morning on the golf course and then cooking a slap up Easter Sunday roast dinner for my wife and kids, I have finally settled down to watch some golf and taken the time to update after round 3......LOTS of changes!
Won't bother weighing in on the Phil vs Lee argument as one of my favourite players on tour is Phil Mickelson and has been for years. Not a massive fan of Lee Westwood to be honest but have grown to like him a little bit more over the last few days.
Anyway! It's fair to say that the guys to watch yesterday were Mickelson and Hanson, some superb golf played by both of them.....and I disagree with Steve's comment of "The flop shot is actually quite easy", it's very easy to catch thin and you require balls of steel to do it on the greens at Augusta. That was shot of the weekend, without a doubt.
Favourite part of the weekend for me so far had to be after Rory and Sergio made birdie on 12 yesterday then had a man hug with smiles all around. I think that's exactly what Rory needed was a little bit of a laugh, play a few competitive rounds at Augusta stress free and then go out there next year and get the job done.....I guess only time will tell whether I'm right or just talking rubbish.....probably the later.
The lead in our competition has change quite dramatically, after Stewart Cink blowing up yesterday it's left the leader over days 1 and 2 licking his wounds down in 15th. Funk Butter dominated the field yesterday with his selections of Woods, Scott, Kuchar, Hanson, Bae. Woods and Scott letting the side down a bit but still a good performance none the less.
Finally, Happy Easter to one and all. Enjoy round 4.

So, Bubba Watson is our new Masters champion, quite some tournament it has to be said, but it's not often that the Masters disappoints, what about that shot out of the tree's from Bubba. WOW! Some incredible golf this week, loads of stories out on the course through all 4 days. It's a shame a European couldn't win the green jacket but we peppered the leader board which can only be good for this years Ryder Cup!
As for the BBS US Masters Tipping Competition, with selections of Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar, Peter Hanson and Sang-Moon Bae....richj363 will be handing his title over to Mr Funk Butter who won by a massive 7 shots! Great tipping fella, and congratulations.
The wooden spoon looked to go to Wardy91 for the first 3 days but at the final hurdle, Wardy actually managed to jump one and left last spot to CPFC247, his selections of Tiger Woods, Charl Schwartzel, KJ Choi, Martin Laird and Robert Garrigus were abysmal from the get go unfortunately. Commiserations and better luck next time.
Thanks for taking part lads, keep an eye out for the next tipping competition when the next major takes place, the US Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco on June 14th - 17th.

One lame shot from Phil and a bit of a lack of forethought cost him the Masters. One thing I don;t understand - if you hit it into the stand you get a decent kind of drop in front. if you hit your ball onto the roof of a building as Tiger once did in a tournament, you get a decent drop, even when I was playing once, when I hit an overhead cable I got to replay the shot, but, if your shot catapults off a man made obstruction and disappears into oblivion you don't get relief or to replay the shot. A foot either way and Phil may well have got relief, taken a 4 and been in the play off.

It's all a question of where the ball finishes up not how it got there.
Then it depends if the obstruction is classified as movable or immovable. Covered in the local rules for the competition. So all those stands are classified as immovable and you get a free drop.
Power lines or cables get a special mention and if you hit one the shot is retaken with no penalty.

Managed to watch the final round yesterday in the bar. The Masters has always been my second favourite of the majors but yesterday left a bit of a sour taste personaly.
There is no doubting the quality of Bubba second shot but it makes a mockery of it when you can drive 30 odd yards into the woods and still get an opportunity to play that shot. To be fair it wasnt just Bubba even big Phil managed a great shot out of trees when you should be knocking it out sideways after a wayward tee shot. It just seemed players didnt really get punished for not being accurate and as long as you can boom it down there and put, youll get a chance to win the masters.

Agree to an extent, although Bubba had the balls and skill to pull off such a shot, I think a lot of other golfers would have chipped out. More courses need to be more punishing or more intricate, Harbour Town is a prime example of a course that requires accuracy off the tee, a decent short game and the ability to putt, a true test of golf, it's always been known that you don't have to be the straightest off the tee at Augusta.

Nah, I stick everyone's selections into the spreadsheet (correct any spelling mistakes) then stick the players score in the column next to them, I use the PGA website to get the scores so lots of flicking between pages and searching for names on the PGA website which takes a while.

Not everyone's 'cup of tea', but Poulter's right about him here.......
"IAN Poulter was dumped out after the first round of the Accenture Match
Play Championship and turned his ire on TV commentator Bruce Critchley.
Former Walker Cup player Critchley said on Sky Sports that Poulter who
has his own clothing company and won the event two years ago, was perhaps not focused enough on his golf.
Poulter told his million-plus followers on Twitter: ‘l would love some of our
commentators to do a day in my shoes with family gym and practice sessions.
Poulter told his million-plus followers on Twitter ‘They haven't got a F&@ “£% l
clue how hard we work. They sit on their ass talking crap. Thats really
difficult. Bruce Chritchley talks complete ******* most of the time anyway"
How true.......
