A rehearsal for the final? ;)
Anyone else getting excited about this game? The first time we will see a Great Britain side take to the field.

Yeah, really looking forward to watching this.
Apart from the novelty of seeing a GB side, im most looking forward to seeing Brazil. They really are going for it, as Olympic gold is the only major title left for Brazil to win, so they sending a very good squad. Will be interesting to see how good Lucas Moura really is on the international stage - some insane skills/goals out there from youtube vids of his domestic football.

Anyone agree with Pearce that we should have Danny Welbeck, Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the squad?
Would be a long summer for them if they were included. Can't see it helping their development next season. However, it is a one of chance to play for team GB. I would have wanted to have been involved if I were them.

I'd rather they played interational tournament football than for Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool in the league.
Pearce is an idiot though. He blames the areas he has no control over and doesnt seem to recognise his own moronic decisions such as including Micah Richards as the over 23 player and including bit part premier league players such as Sorvell and Rose over those that play regularly for their clubs, albeit in lower leagues.

Its a tough one.
Their clubs would have flipped. They would in theory not have had a break and missed the whole of pre season. Come January/February, they would be running on empty.
I am very surprised Chelsea have allowed Mata to play to be honest, and especially Barcelona with Alba, considering how many games both of these teams will end up playing with their league and Champions League commitments (And both normally go far in their domestic cup competitions as well).
Pearce now coming out and moaning about this after originally saying it was sensible sums the man up; he's a f*cking idiot.

When answering questions about Beckham, Pearce repeats his mantra that he had to pick on form and form alone. How does he square that theory with his selections of Rose and Sordell?
GB lost 1-0 to Mexico last weekend. We have one right-back in the squad (Richards) and two/three left-backs (Taylor, Bertrand, Rose). Against Mexico Pearce started with Richards at centre-half and the very left-footed Rose at right-back. Genius.
Any success, as with the England u-21s, will be in spite of Pearce.
Still, a good test tonight and should be a decent game. Don't forget the women against Sweden this afternoon (both games live on BBC One) - I'd suggest they have a much healthier chance of picking up a medal.

Neymar's superb, very quick with a great shot, although he does seem to fall over quite easily. Brazil are in a difference class to GB, as I think we might see tonight. As the game is a warm-up I don't think either side will push at full throttle, so we might get a draw.

Another point on Pearce insisting on picking players on form - how does he justify picking Cleverley on the back of zero Premier League starts since October?
Then there's Richards - picking him as an over-age player was pretty bizarre and unwarranted anyway (particularly baring in mind his conduct with England), but then to play him - the squad's only right-back - at centre-half is just moronic. If you're picking an over-age centre-half, why not Evans?
I'd love to see GB do well, I've got the shirt and indeed am going to GB v UAE next weekend, but Pearce being in charge taints my interest (and our chances), as does a lack of Zaha, Beckham and Bale.
We've been awful thus far. We may well struggle with Uruguay, and possibly Senegal too.

I think Pearce was a poor choice however he was right not to pick Beckham and Zaha. For Beckham it is too late and for Zaha a few years too early, Cleverley has the potential to be a very good player and may have had a chance of making the Euro`s if he had not missed so much of last season through injury.

The truth is that we're playing at it. Brazil have put their best side out. If we were doing it properly we'd start by picking the best three over-age players in the country. They are not Giggs, Bellamy and Richards. The FA were scared of annoying Premier League managers so said that none of the Euro squad could be picked. If we were taking it seriously we'd have picked a large number of players from that squad.
We'd have also selected a decent manager.

Also, bit weird that Ramsey didn't start. And now, with Giggs and then Richards replaced, Allen is captain, not Ramsey. Surely you have to start Ramsey come the tournament, surely? He's the best player in the squad, bar Giggs.

^^This^^. 3 left backs in the team at the start; a bloke who's a positionally poor right back playing centre back. To say that he's tactically inept would be a compliment. Other than trying to play the ball out from the back we were bereft of ideas.
There were a few positives. Butland looked very impressive (as he had a lot to do in the second half), Allen showed some class with his attempts to get a passing game going, Neil Taylor (other than some scary attempts at trusting the footwork of Micah Richards in tight spots) didn't look bad. Sturridge dicked Marcelo a couple of times and Scott Sinclair looked capable of carrying the ball. Other than that we were piss poor.
Bellamy didn't show the explosive pace that his game has been built upon, our midfield lacked bite, Richards & Tomkins shouldn't even be allowed in the same room together, let alone on the field as a centre back partnership; and Cleverly, Jesus wept, if he's part of England's 'future' then I'm going to support my dad's home country St Lucia. They'll have more of a chance at international level than any England team with Cleverly in it.
Every few years Fergie seems to do a Simon Cowell and back someone rubbish for a laugh to see if the public gets suckered into agreeing with him (like Cowell did with Michelle McManus). Anyone remember the pock-faced wing sensation Lee Martin? Now plying his trade with MK Dons reserve team. Cleverly is in the same ilk. Poor movement, poor first touch, poor passing, but occasionally hits a half decent shot. I'd be impressed if we get out of the group.
I predict U-R-Gay & Senegal top the group with us in 3rd if last night's game is anything to go by.
