The commontator said there were no survivers from the North Korean team that played in the last Olympic games. I suppose that is the price of failure.

The coach will be the first one executed as an example to other coaches.

Embarrassing yes, but a massive shambles as many would have you believe? No way.

It will be typically British to make massive mountains out of anything that isn't perfect during the games.

I can understand the Korean anger to an extent, but their reaction does seem way OTT to me. It was clearly a genuine mistake made without malice - also it should be noted it was a flag on a screen, not their actual flag at the stadium or anywhere else.

There is something to be said for their approach.

If the thick jock twat responsible for this cock up were to be executed, or at least publicly flogged, our 'apology' would carry a little more weight IMO.

No doubt the NK team felt they had to walk off last night or face the consequences when they got back home.

The teams pictures/flags are shown on big screens in the grounds. The stadium receives a pre-prepared package from LOCOG to plug into their computers which they display on the big screens. Obviously LOCOG are using some of our highly educated graduates to prepare these packages!!!

LOCOG work 4 floors below me in CW and seeing the quality of people that work for them over the last few years it does not surprise me this happened. Hopefully it is the start of two weeks of comedy gold!!!

A bit more than embarrassing unfortunately.

If we had set out to insult someone as badly as possible we'd have done well to do any better (worse). The only comparison from a European perspective would be the Irish team going to the far east and having their names put up against the Union Flag, and even then that probably doesn't do it justice.

Sorry, it was ignorant and stupid - more than embarassing.

It wasn't just confusing any flag, was it? It was South Korea of all countries.

Some people who are keen to brush this under the carpet just do not get patriotism the way it is in a lot of other nations; something like this, with or without intent, is a gross insult.

After-all its not like the 2 countries are still technically at WAR with each other is it? I am sure p_s would have been fine in 1941 if someone had put him next to a German swastica for example. He would not have 'over-reacted'!

Of course they were overreacting - they walked off the pitch and delayed the game for an hour. Why couldn't a member or two of their multi-numbered delegation not complain and get it sorted?

It was a blunder clearly, but it wasn't malicious or intentional or ignorant. It was a simple mistake on a piece of computer software. It wasn't their actual flag they got wrong, or the anthem, but a small computer image. Poor? Yes? Massive deal? No.

There have been countless occasions at global sporting events where teams or individuals have had to stand and listen to another country's national anthem - funnily enough I don't remember them walking off trying to make some sort of political point. Genuine human error - it happens.

Since London was awarded the games people have been sniping about the Olympics, moaning about it and seemingly wanting it to fail. Now it has begun the same people will attempt to make capital out of every error - and of course errors are inevitable in events of this magnitude.

I don't get why people are always so convinced Britain will somehow 'fail' at hosting things. When there are big events held in Britain, they are invariably brilliant, and attract praise globally. People were saying the venues would be rubbish or not built until 2014. Sadly such people have had little to chew on thus far: the venues are superb, the Olympic Park is magnificent, the athletes have loved the Village and their whole experience so far, the IOC are delighted, the opening ceremony is meant to be outstanding, the torch relay has been a resounding success....

A dose of cynicism and self-deprecation is healthy, but Britain really does overdo it sometimes. It's one of the things that annoys me most about our wonderful country - the moaning and blaming culture. Sometimes its healthy to pat yourself on the back, yet we never do it in this country - it's one of the reasons the country seems to love heroic losers in sport more than driven, ambitious, confident winners.

It was unfortunate considering the countries involved, but it's not like it was done deliberately because of who it was. It could just as easily have happened at Australia v New Zealand. If it had, it would have been the same - a regrettable error, but clearly not done with malice.

I guess you can disregard the above paragraph though, as I clearly don't understand *Maz-lite*.

I must have missed the news item which broke the news that Australia and NZ are at war.

You are one who is aware of different cultures etc - so how can you disregard the importance some base on flags? It's a massive deal in much of Asia.

The BBC's Alistair Coleman says North Korean state television appears to have completely ignored how the South Korean flag was mistakenly displayed on the screen at Hampden Park before the women's football match against Colombia on Wednesday. The channel's match report was the last item in an hour-long news bulletin and showed only still photographs of North Korea's 2-0 victory.
