I read a thread a couple of weeks ago where Coke (who I believe to be the best Charlton Poster on the BBS) said we are being racist by calling Charlton fans "gypsy scum" and alike.

Firstly I would like to say that I dont think calling someone gypsy is being racist, the gypsys we are talking about are the dirty people which trespass on private land and leave the worst possible mess behind when they move and all for the avoidance of tax, these people are not really a race of people.

Secondly Coke, I agree with your sentiments that name calling is immature but that works both ways, Spanish and No.2 are always calling palace fans Nigels, E-girls and Palarse. So I think to stop some palace BBS'ers you must stop the Charlton also.

As for me I r3ead through it and dont take much notice from either side, but if you are to complain you must complain about both sides.

Sorry to sound PC but the term Gypsy is a racist term when used to describe the Rommany peoples, of whom there are several millions living through out Europe. They have there own distinct language and culture which whilst seeming very alien to us is in fact very old. Of all the peoples who claim to be persecuted over the years they have perhaps the best justification and Hitler attempted to wipe then out. In fact you will find that many people from middle Europe and the Balkans, who would normally come accross as being very liberal on most issues, can shock you when they launch into verbal attacks about these people. Funnily enough it is the Serbs who seem to enjoy the best relations with them and one aspect of the aftermath of the Kosovo conflict was the ethnic cleansing of the Gypsys carried out by the KLA. Off course we did not hear much about that aspect of the plucky little Albanians and thier struggle against the big bad Serbs but then what can you expect ?

When describing the 'Gypsys' with whom we are more likely to have contact then a more accurate term would be 'Tinkers' or 'Irish Travellers'.

Or, if you prefer, no good, smelly, theiving inbred *******s.

I stand corrected, but I feel when Charlton are called gypsy scum, I cant really see a palace fan calling them a dirty little eastern block person!!!!
