Hi guys,

I have seen some rather creepy things on twitter recently which have concerned me. Firstly, someone has got a TATTOO of a crystal. Secondly, someone has got the name of a crystal printed on the back of his shirt. I thought palace fans were creepy at the best of the times, and the constant lecherous staring and comments made me a bit uneasy, but surely it's all going to far? Is it just some Palace fans that are this weird, or would any club have grown men tweeting the crystals 20-30 times a day, queing up for photos with them and getting their faces tattooed on them?

Kind regards,

Chunt

Problem is that if you take this train of thought to its logical conclusion then is'nt the notion of 'supporting' a football club in the way that has now become the custom got a certain element of creepiness to it ?

That people will go and cheer on a bunch of over-paid strangers every week, and allow how they perform to not only effect their mood but even then go on to dislike groups of other people based on nothing more than their support of another bunch of over-paid strangers ?

I fully buy into the idea that anybody who would act this way about a bunch of dancing girls is likely to end up on a register some day but essentially the entire notion of sports fandom has something almost deranged about it.

Wow. That person needs seriously to have his PC monitored, and his movements at all times or it's only a matter of time before there is some kind of 'faceoff' moment and he is wearing the skin of a 20 year old girl.

Some people are a bit lecherous with them, and a bit obsessive its almost unreal. As mentioned previously some people tweet them excessively.

I said it before on the the "entertainment on the concourse" thread, but on saturday I saw two men in their late 30s getting a bit too excited about theior signed posters. Bearing in mind these guys are probably old enough to be their Dad's!

When I saw the Crystals on the concourse, I was surprised at how young they all look (and I am 27). Don't get me wrong, its great the club have the crystals, but the amount of attention some people pay them is a tiny bit creepy.

LOL - at this thread.

Seen the tattoo, it's a cheerleader wearing red and blue. That's it. If you want to think in your head, that it's a picture of one of the girls then you are mistaken.

No idea about the crystal on the back of shirt though?

I can confirm it's blatantly not - As he posted above earlier in the thread.

Funnily enough, I was actually the one who suggested he tweeted it to one of the Palace supporting Crystals - as I thought they'd think it was funny (Funny as in Ha ha). He shares mutual friends with a few of the Crystals. And this is all very much a mountain out of a mole-hill.

It's as innocent or as Creepy as you want to make it. But the reality is much different to the tone of this thread. It's just another Tattoo with Palace colours.

That's the other thing that I've never understood - random fans that add you on FB, as they support Palace. No ta - still a stranger/nothing else in common. (Same with Twitter - you won't find me following them back.)

I much prefer having the current cheerleaders than the young girls we used to have, that was creepy as it was rude to ignore them but somehow not right to look at them. The Crystals to me are a bit like Kayla, Pete and Alice - all part of the match day experience. Although I do feel that Alice should wear a bit more to cover herself up!

Totally agree, but maybe the Crystals need to turn it down a bit or whoever is directing these things, that last video was basically like soft porn, Thething is though it works, I have a 6 year old daughter, not interested in coming to Palace at all until I showed her the call me video, now she wants to come to a family day to see, maybe meet them, IF the game is a cracker too, that could give her the bug for life!

Me too mostly, but it's more a stream of information from people who might say something of interest. Other Palace fans already share an interest, and so may be likely to tweet or retweet things I might also be interested in. If they fill it up with shit that is annoying I can just unfollow.

I rarely say much myself. 140 characters isn't really a method of communicating suited to me!

Yep - just as you think you've been on here long enough for them to have stopped - a new poster comes along.

Is why I removed my seat row & number from my profile - had randoms coming up to me at games.

I can second that - only obviously doesn't happen to me as often as e-girl I would imagine. I normally put them off by mentioning my vast number of grown up children so they realise my name is a little misleading - tbf most then disengage politely.

I think we should get rid of the crystals. It's just creepy anyway. I go to watch football, not watch thousands of (semi?) drunk men perving over girls that are way too young for them.

Err, why would you watch the thousands of (semi?) drunk men perving over girls?

You could look at something else while they are dancing for 5 or 6 minutes, maybe even them?

I'm obviously not sitting staring at people... So what I should stare at the ground? I don't mind watching them do their dance or whatever but it's just shit. I'd rather watch someone slip over whilst trying to kick a ball into a shed. I don't go to football to sit next to my elderly nan and watch girls dance about? I don't for a second believe anyone comes solely to watch us...We do 2 dances, would be a lot of money to just watch us do two dances!!

It always has and always will be about the football! We're just there as a bit of entertainment before and at half time!! I also fully respect everyones opinion of us being there (for or against.)

Whilst someone getting a tattoo of mine and Ninas initials may be slightly odd, each to their own. With the shirt, I can't fully remember but I'm pretty sure I said we'd win a game that was looking unlikely and the guy said if we win I'll get your name on my shirt. Pretty harmless really :)

I've never felt unsafe in or around Selhurst park, in fact, quite the opposite!!

This discussion has taken a very odd turn. And how very British. I'd say it is more than likely your issue rather than your Nan's. It's your own insecurity.

Just take it for what it is, a bit of fun, everybody is consenting and it doesn't hurt or offend anybody or distract from the reaqson we are there - football.

Is it more to do with the way we view cheer-leading in the UK as a kin to a lap dance ? It's part and parcel of a lot of American sports and is viewed completely different over there.

Should they get rid of Strictly Come Dancing - because the of the girls costumes in that ? That programme is loved by old and young with no arguments about it being pervy.

The girls are fully dressed, having a lot of fun, and are trying to enhance the match day experience for all.

Must admit, I was very sceptical of the Crystals at first (sorry girls, nothing personal) I thought they were a tacky gimmick aimed at enticing more pervy blokes into hiring corporate boxes.

It didn't bother me that much though as I never really got to see them, I always run from the pub at the last minute for kick off, and spend the whole of half time in the bar.

My opinion changed however when I took my two young daughters (5 & 8) along to one of the family days. The moment they spotted The Crystals their eyes lit up, it was the highlight of their day meeting the girls and having their pics taken with them. They're constantly watching the videos on youtube with their friends, and trying to dance around pretending to be a Crystal. My oldest has already as a result convinced a couple of the lads from her class into switching from Arsenal and Man Utd to Palace. Before this their enthusiasm for Palace was a bit so-so, now they beg me to let them come with me to a game.

This thread is rather amusing!

Personally I think the Crystals are doing a good PR job for the club, appealing to male and female fans alike. I'm damn sure all the girls expect some male attention, but I think I've only seen them ever be offended by anything once, which was a rather graphically worded post on HOL (that was meant in jest, I believe) they took offence to. Other than that it's all been good banter on twitter etc...

Good to see Claire come on here to give her point of view on it.

Let me first add, I am in no way a prude, and I was a previously a glamour photographer.

However, after just watching the Crystals in the new christmas video, wearing the sexy santa outfits, pulling up stockings, shaking their tush..... no-one can then start complaining about inapporiate attention from the fans.....

You cant play up the sexy image then complain about the repsonse.

however is was a fun video, just a shame it wasnt Ollie dress in the santa outfit at the end !!

What a horrifically archaic and potentially dangerous point of view you have.

Dont get me wrong, I am not suggesting for one minute, go out and stalk a crystal !!!!

The video says look at my legs, you can almost see my booty, watch me pull my stockings up, let me shake my tush at you, let me flirt with you a little...... which is all good and well....if thats what they want to do....who am I to say otherwise, i have made plenty of money from the glamour industry which is all flirting and teasing.

I dont know if this was the video the girls argeed to do, or some "clever" director/editor..... i cant say.....some of the shots in the video I wouldnt be happy my young neice or nephew seeing......but then my neice and nephew arent the target audience for this sort of thing..... but if the girls were all up for this, can we then be surprised at the the attention they get....

To be honest, i dont interact with any of the only the Crystals, so dont know their point of view, Clare was on here early saying it wasnt an issue and she has always felt safe around the ground and the fans.....and long may that contiune....

this thread was started by someone laughing at a guy who had a tattoo of a Crystal Palace chearleader...... would it be an issue if he had a tattoo of Cheryl Cole or some other female celeb ?? there are plenty out there....

Yeah initially I was against the Americanism of it all but that´s a fantastic example of the value of what these girls are bringing to the club, I mentioned it already but my 6 year old daughter had no interest in going to SP until she saw the call me video now she really wants to go, if she met the girls she´d love it, then if the game was a good one too and we won, that could have her hooked (thats the hope anyway).
