Half way through the Crystal Palace 5 year plan to be one of Europe's top clubs, what do you expect to be a realistic scenario come the end of the fifth year ??

My own assumption would be that due to the current structure of the club and the obvious mess that exists at Palace these days, Second division football is more likely that the Premiership.

Yawn

2nd division football combined with defeat by the Albion on Boxing Day.

By the awy, that was always the plan, ask Agent Goldberg!

So no.1 what's your five year plan?

To put your caravan into a nice campsite with other Gypos?

Let's step into the time machine. Its 15th May 2003.

Palarse Chairman Sir Donald Duck is in tears after a defeat against Yeovil condemns the Thunderbirds to 3rd Division football for the first time since the last time. It is a poignant moment for the literally dozens of supporters gathered at Carshalton's ground, home for the past 12 months. Manager Ron Noades blames the players.

Yeovil's Neil Ruddock has scored his first goals for 2 1/2 seasons, and despite being sent off along with 3 other team-mates Palarse still lose 5-0. The 5 year plan is in tatters. Wimbledon get their biggest home gate of the season, 25,000 at Selhurst, including many disaffected Eagles.

Meanwhile, down on the South Coast, Brighton's long road back to the big time is almost complete as they win 2-1 against Derby to scrape into the 1st Division play-offs. The new stadium awaits. The irony of the situation is not lost on the jubilant Albion faithful, who savour the memory of the famous 2001/2002 season Boxing Day 6-1 cuffing of the old enemy en route to Div 1.

A new 5 year plan is revealed of a less ambitious nature, that sees the Eagles consolidating in the Rymans Premier by 2008.

What is the significance??

The infamous "5 year plan" was Goldberks brain child, it was not a palace philosophy. Goldberk is not here anymore and nor is the 5 year plan.

No.2 have you been asleep for the last 2 years since goldberk took over. Since then we have changed manager twice been through administration and been bought out by another self made multimillionaire. His name is Simon Jordan.

Go back to sleep and have those wet dreams of Charlton being no 1 in south london but dont be disappointed when it is time to wake up and smell the coffee.

But you all bought into his plans !
Most Palace fans at the time really believed that it might happen, because you were such a big club. Everyone outside of Palace, just laughed at this unbelievable vision.
The reason I asked the original question and it's significance is that we have a similar if diluted, situation today. Most Palace fans seem to think that they are a Premiership club waiting to happen. I disagree and think it is more likely that you will spend time in the second division before any about turn in your fortunes happens.
Top Eagle, you are a classic example, as you refuse to recognise that Palace have a serious relegation battle on their hands this season and it is just amusing that Palace fans by and large are still talking Palace up as some sort of sleeping giant.

No.2, fair enough, but why only pick on the one joke point I made, surely the rest of my post was explaining my ideas as to both of our clubs from a non rose tinted point of view.

All I say is dont write us off, we need time to bounce back and at the moment we have time to do it. As for the gulf between us fine you are in a higher league and that I suppose speaks for itself, dont see the need to point it out, I think most palace fans will at least admit that!!!!!

The five year plan, my Hommosexual Gipsy Friends was one devised by Mark Goldberk. He isn't our chairman any more!!

No.2. Dont tell me you think Charlton ARE A GIANT!!!!

I am a level headed person and I think that Palace will stay up, after 10 games of a 46 game season I am not worried, I have watched the team play and also seen highlights of the other teams in the league, this is why I do not think we will go down, I dont think that palace are a cert to go up but I think we have more than enough to stay in the league, if you pressed me for a finishing position I would say 14-16th.

As for Goldberk, if any palace supporter or player was sucked into believing a relegated Premier league side being "a force in europe" within 5 years, you have got to be stupid. If Palace fans believed then I would be suprised, but if you know that many and they all thought it then I guess that makes it true, I would however not put me in that bracket.

Palace will stay in the league because the majority of our perfomances have been good although we are finding the net a bit hard to find, we have 8 new players in the squad, new coaching staff and a new chairman, I hardly think with all of that we would have played 10 and won 10 do you?? Things take time, as you being a Charlton fan should well know, we have more money and 36 games to put it right I am sure that this will be the case.

As for Charlton, I have told Spanish and Coke before that I try to watch MOTD and live matches as much as possible, I have even gone on record that I would like to see you stay up, and I think you can achieve that. I am not slating your team but on the other hand can not see why you are so quick to see Palace relegated when you clearly do not know what are performances have been like or what is going on to rectify the current situation.

Top Eagles Verdict:

Charlton scrape home
Palace mid table safety

Absolutely NOT - I have never mentioned that I believe Charlton to be a GIANT - all I have suggested is that we are currently way ahead of Palace.

You try again to put words into my mouth, but your statement above is just not true.

I would guess that we are currently about 20th in the whole league if combining size & stature. We have done marvelous to get here.
Palace on the other hand are way down the list and the gap between our two clubs is growing by the day.
It may make you feel better to remark that Charlton are a giant and that you are comparable to us on some score, but the truth is that we are a medium sized well run club, currently doing well in the Premiership. Palace are however, miles behind and look more likely to descend further that redress the balance of power in South London.

Spanish, is it your time of the month?? You seem very tense at the moment.

Shame Goldberk is not our chairman, I totally agree with you......if that was the case he would not be bankrupt and we would probably have not gone into administration.

Still if he was you would not have got your hands on such a "quality" striker as Svensson!!!

£600,000 isn't bad for a Premiership reserve team striker. You could do worse than have him back, after all I haven't seen anyone more prolific at Palace since he left !!!!

Top Eagle

Would not have him back if you paid us, and I sincerly mean that.

Dont rate the Judas!!!

Clinton Morrison scored more than him last season and will probably do the same this (I hope!!!!)

Just so's you know Top, being the male gender I'm fortunate enough not to experience the monthly periodic relaese of infertile eggs. As for feeling tense, I can say, for your concern, that right now I am feeling on top of the world. JJ perormed admirably last night as did the main man Mark Kinsella. Yes things are just fine, unlike the state of affairs at your sorry club !

Did some bully from school nick your lunch money then??

I though JJ was played a little out of position last night and would have played better alongside Forssell with Litmanen just behind, that I think would have caused us more problems.

Did not think much of the game all round though.

Ill ignore your little dig at Palace it is just not worth it when you are in this mood!!!!!!
