View Full Version : Is that all you take away ???????
Taken from the SJ re-imbursement article -
"It was aimed at around 150 die-hard supporters who made the trip north. The offer only applies to fans who travelled to Preston on the three official supporters coaches."
What next ??? - come in a taxi, you must have come in a taxi !!!!

Actually the other few hundred went up by train or car. Three coaches, 50 seats each equals 150 people. Since the article was discussing the people who went up by coach it referred only to them. Please try to keep up.

I think any club with a half-decent support would turn up with more than 3 coach loads - fair comment ???
What you mean is, YOUR fans are too stupid to use public transport or drive a car and HAVE to be ferried around in a 'special' bus.

No - our fans turn up in larger numbers !!!!
P.S. - wasn't it also HALF PRICE on the coaches ???? and only 3 turned up !!!!!!!

As I wrote 10 minutes ago "the other few hundred went up by train or car". So apart from having very poor comprehension you also have an extremely abysmal short-term memory.
Why so few coaches I hear you ask? Well, myself and a lot of people like to get to a town, have a bit of a wander round, get something to eat, mingle with the opposition fans then go to the game. As distinct from going on a coach straight to the ground, watching the game then getting back on the coach. The game is only a small part of the trip, most of the fun comes from travelling in your own manner and the pre and post match festivities. Being on a coach is far too much like being shephered around like a bunch of schoolkids for my liking.
Men at Work - or is it just because sherry drinking is banned on the coaches ?????
Look, I'm sure there are lots of fans like yourself, but to turn up on a Saturday with only 3 half priced fare coaches tells us plenty about your so called loyal supporters.

It was 24 actually - do you have the same problem estimating the number of Palace supporters at your away games ?????
So how many went then - please make an honest guess and then I'll divide it by 2.4 !!!!!!

I can't tell whether you're being deliberately obtuse or just plain thick. There were about 600 fans there by my reckoning, not too bad considering it was the fourth trip to that part of England so far this saeson (with more to come). That 75% of them choose to make their own way there rather than use the club provided coaches indicates a low level of support? I'm confused. Please explain.

I was there at Preston & like has been already quoted we had around 6-700 up there but we are being critcised by a Charlton fan who absolutely despises Palace?? Shall we talk about the pathetic support you bring to Palace then? (Barring last years 5,000+ when you were top of the league, convienient) Charlton NEVER bought a decent turn-out to Palace in the 90's barring the game last year & the play-off game, which says it all about your away support really, & you refer to us as being glory-hunters!!We are meant to be your biggest rivals & you do'nt even turn up against us in numbers whereas we always take a decent amount to your place.
Anymore comments???
Le Piddler, are you referring to your boy ?
I remember once turning up at Preston. Only, thing was, we was supposed to be at Burnley, only the match got cancelled at the last minute, mid week an all. What a sh!t, never mind though, there were about 50 Colchester fans and approximately 300 Charlton. As for our away support, you really don't know what you're talking about.... Charlton probably have a solid away hard core of about 500 or so, added to that, dependant on the fixture there could be anything between 1000 - 1500 for northern games or the obvious sell out for London and Southern ties. Exactly how many of you went to Ipswich last season, only me thinks me saw plenty of empty seats on the tv...
Don't bother answering, I know you never do when you're proven wrong !
By no coincidence, notice none of you sorry Nigels bothered to maintain your Selhurst Park Attendances thread I very kindly set up for you all ! ?

Spanish, as regards to you not know what I am talking about, I was regarding the away support you bring to Palace not your away support in general!
As for your hardcore away support of around 500, I would say that ours is around the same but as for Preston it was our 3rd long trip in 2 weeks (Norwich & Burnley being the others) so that probably put paid to our floating away support otherwise we would have taken 1000ish up there.
As for your comment about Ipswich season I can't answer as in case you have'nt guessed I work nights so I could'nt go but I do find it remarkably touching that you would stay in on a Tuesday night just to watch the mighty Palace!!

hey buddy, just glad you weren't talking about your right hand man, nudge nudge, say no more.... as for Ipswich Palace last season, well I did have a vested interest, aside from hoping that they might add another nail to your releagtion coffin. So you work nights then do you, whats that then, filling shelves in Sainsburys, ahh, nice to know you keep Selhurst close to your heart, even if it isn't your own ground, good olde Ronnie N.

Ahhh the usual witty reponse from the charlton, stacking shelves eh?? very droll, pity you did'nt answer the question in my original posting did you about your support at Palace??
LP, correct me if I am wrong, however most, if not all of our recent encounters at selhurst, bar the wimbledon ones have been sell outs. So much so that in the sad play off second leg I could only get a seat in your sorry end with all those spotty kids. I felt so awful, what with my beautiful complexion.. please forgive me.
Seriously though, I think I've probably been to the last 6 or 7 away games at your West Indian cricket gorund, and whilst they haven't all been sell outs they've been well attended. Or am i wrong ?

Seriously - I wonder how many fans Charlton would have taken up to Preston if they were 19th in the League Division one?

Question:
How many charlton fans can you fit on 1 club coach to an away match??
Answer:
ALL OF THEM!!!!!
I think the best comment on this thread was Anti's well done mate. Charlton "fans" take note.

In the know, Brighton I guess??
This is about support something your lot really have no grounds to comment on.
As for 3rd div, only in your wet ones mate!!!!
In The Know is indeed the wise one here. The fact that Brighton can get more for an away 3rd Division game on a Friday night, at least 50 miles further, than you can for a Saturday game is pathetic. Chesterfield is already virtually sold out (2,400) in a day and a half. We don't need to hear you lot admitting you wouldn't take that many, we all know you wouldn't.
'Cheer up Alan Smith....'
Kelvin old mate, you forgot to mention the 3,500 we had at Southend, the 1,000 at York, the 500 at Blackpool on a wet Tuesday evening with a petrol strike in full flow, etc. etc.
Our away support is the best without a shadow of a doubt, and considering Brighton are so, so, sooo, crap (as Palace are always telling us!) it's a bloomin' miracle we take that many.
Mr Cook, I am happily aware of those numbers having attended 2 of them. But I was trying to be fair to the jokers in picking the Hull game. There is surely no excuse for a 3rd division team (250-300) miles from home having more fans on a Friday night, than a 1st Div team 200-250 ish on a Saturday afternoon. It still makes me laugh just looking at it again now. Just think, we could be top by next Saturday. NICE!

Teams that are doing well always attract a larger than average support, just as teams that are doing badly seem to lose a few fickle fans.
Just remember when we won the first division championship a few years back eh palace boys!
Every away game was packed to the rafters!

OK boys. Brighton's support I have to say is very good, considering they always had at least 2,500 for home games at Gillingham. Charlton didn't have many more at Selhurst. I also know Brighton do have a good away following, as I think so do Palace. I was at Preston, thought the turnout was very good. Considering the trips already this season and we have three more away trips in October to come. Charlton, your support is utter scum. You're all glory hunters, who up until three years ago were getting ****e support. So go back to your slums and sit down and shut up. I don't normally have a go at away fans because it doesn't matter how many you take to an away game, the fact that you went says it all. I can't make every away game, I work weekends and nights and use up a lot of my leave on Palace.

Not the view of every Palce fan is it le piddler ???
Gizmo quotes "l travelled by coach normally we drive and l think l would be a little bit peeved ,but l suppose in reality he could only reimburse the official coach travelling support. However l feel that if anyone that went still has their match ticket as proof l don`t see why you can`t exchange it for £10 back towards travel expenses. There can`t be that many more than the 150 or so to pay out on."
Who's telling porkies then ?
Boys Boys Boys,
When you're in the third division and can take 850 to Hull on a Friday night then u can argue about away support or lack of it!
(p.s Don't even bother with the boring we won't ever be in the third division answer)
Charlton fans always have a go at our supoport, this is laughable. Last season Charlton took a massive 800 to Blackburn to see their team seal the title. Palace a few weeks later took 2,000 for the meaningless visit to Tranmere.
I also read recently that the Clowns didn't even fill the tiny away section at St James' park. Ok its a long way, but your going well in the Premiership.
It is also true that Charlton have always (post Wembley 98 glory hunters) struggled to bring a decent support to Selhurst. Millwall for example have normally brought twice as many. Baring in mind it is the Clowns cup final this has always puzzled me.
But why do I bother arguing with Charlton fans anyway? Look at our crowds every week. Would they have half this number of people going every other week if they were in our position..? NO.
And yes I know I'm not at Birmingham as I write this.
It's important to remember that all the clownton fans on this thread are just looking to find anything to criticise us for, even if it's utter b@llocks and miles from the truth. I was at Preston and along with the vast majority of Palace took the train. We had about 700 there and probably slightly more.
But what really makes No 1 in South London's comments pathetic is the fact that pre the Sunderland play off final win your crowds were a joke. I remember watching clownton on telly versus Leicester away a few years back, and your fans had drapped flags over the hundreds of empty empty seats in the away end at Filbert street, a quite small away end at that!
If all you've come on here to do is say that as a mid table Premiership side you can get more away fans than a team that are 21st in division one and hasn't won for seven league games then you really are stupid. The bottom line is you would never be getting our level of support home or away if you were in our position.

Spick SE7.
In response to your Ipswich comments, Palace were only given a small section of the upper tier, not viewable on the TV. We sold this section out.
I believe we were given so few tickets because it was near the end of season when Ipswich were pushing for promotion.
Is it to much to ask a spick and a clown to use his brain?
