Another "best" thread, and Im sure Ill get the usual disaprovals/suggestions, but here are my top 10 suggestions for the band that currently can be considered the best. I have excluded bands from the older generation, even though they may still be considered current. This is about here, now, the future.

The White Stripes for me. Jack and Meg White are just fantastic. A two piece capable of making a whole festival rock, like they did on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.

Could a mod please change "Travis" to "Idlewild" please, I was brain dead when I typed Travis.

Belle and Sebastian would have been a good shout but alas no space.

I'm a big fan of Nickelback at the moment. Quality rock n roll, and tehy are the type of group that has a lot of meaning behind the words of their songs that really makes me think...Good stuff....

Can't see beyond Muse for this one Jaffa.
But then I'm an old git.

Cant see any of my choices there Jaffa. Add B-Movie Heroes, Johnny Zhivago and my new favourite band Diamond Dogs to the list and I'll vote. Definately more rock than some of the half-arsed indie bands you've named.

I havent' heard of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club but none of the rest are that good. Idlewild and Bon Jovi should both be on the list instead of Coldplay who just moan.

Boris, I suggested that someone change Travis to Idlewild, but I cant believe that you suggested Bon Jovi.
Ok Living on a Prayer is a classic, but they are hardly a current band.
As for the complainers, can I again stress that you are only given 10 options on these polls so I choose the biggest and most popular band. There isnt space to put in some obscure band who have only ever played to 3 people in a pub (i.e. as216s choices)

White Stripes of course (but would have been Mercury Rev when they were playing to three people in a pub) ;)

White Stripes DID rock the Pyramid Stage on Saturday, quality, and very unexpected.
The only time that Ron Jovi made an appearance at Glasto was during Orbital's set with their wonderful cover of 'Livin On a Prayer.'
Got to say that The Vines rocked but the real surprise were the Queens of the Stone Age who were awesome.

Yeah you lucky git forgot you went.
Heard Queens of the Stone Age on Lamaq and I agree, they hark back to the heady days of Nirvana and Peal Jam for me, and even had Dave Grohl back where he belongs, behind the drumset.
Lost Art of Keeping A Secret is a classic tune.
As for Boris`s point about Coldplay, I suggest he stops listening to Livin` on a Prayer on repeat, and goes and views their stomping set at Glasto this week. Ok I wasnt there, but TV was enough to show that this lot really are a big time band up there with the likes of Oasis etc.

At the risk of sounding smug....Coldplay were tops (just beating the White Stripes and Rolf Harris as THE festival highlight), but if we're talking straight up ROCK the new album from the Queens sounds like it could be huge, they've got a new fella (from the Screaming Trees) doing some vocals, but the main difference was Mr. Grohl on the drums! I've never seen (live) someone hit the drums that hard.
Can I post up an RIP to Mr. Entwistle btw. Saw the Who in February and they rocked as well. It's a shame more people will now not get to see them.

Best contempory one from the list is The Doves IMHO but if such poll had been posted a few years back the overall quality of the bands would have been better. Just shows i'm getting old, musics just not the same as it was back in my day ect.
