Am I the only person who's favourite Oasis Album is Be Here Now?
In order with one being best and six being worst I would rank them as.
1) Be Here Now
2) The Masterplan
3) (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
4) Heathen Chemistry
5) Definately Maybe
6) Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

Don't really like Oasis at all but bits of Definately Maybe were pretty good (i.e. Cigarrettes And Alcohol for it's T-Rex vibe).

Definatly Maybe followed by the Masterplan, the other four are about the same standard of being 60% good songs, 40% crap songs.

OK then. My wife has them all. She plays them especially to get on my tits. I can't tell the difference between any of the albums, a few of the songs. I just don't like listening to whining northern arseholes. My wife obviously does, which is concerning  :)

It's not my favourite but I thought it was very underrated. My Big Mouth and D'ya Know What I Mean are great Oasis songs.
The best I think is Definitely Maybe, a classic album that promised so much - I thought they'd go on to be one of the UK's biggest and BEST bands ever. Slide Away - what a work of genius.
What's The Story is great in parts (Champagne Supernova, What's The Story, Wonderwall) but the rest is just Beatles rip-offs and cheesy.
SOSG and Heaven Chemistry - haven't bought them, and won't. Don't see the point. They're just boring now, the songs are nowhere near as catchy or anthemic.
Blur won that war in the long-run didnt they?

I enjoy all there songs, they grow on me after a while.Even when Stand by me came out,i had to listen to it about 5/6 times before i got into the foot tapping mood!then it was all go from there and by the time they played it at reading i was jumping all over the place.(even though it is a slow song, when off it,well you know what i mean)
COOOOOOOOOOOME ON! :)

Heathen Chemistry I've only listened to a couple of times and there's a few dodgy ones on there but 'Force of Nature' and the (suprisenly good) Liam written 'Songbird' could become classics.

I'm with you, Boris. Be Here Now is their best offering, with more depth and variety than any of the others.
The Masterplan comes a close second, but it isn't really a proper album, so it shouldn't really count.

1. Got to be Definitely Maybe for the excitement it gave me as an 18-year-old; you couldn't walk past a room in College without hearing that or Parklife blaring out. 'Live Forever' still makes my skin tingle. Fantastic.
2. (What's the Story) Morning Glory is also superb, a close second, and amazed us all by coming out so quickly after the first album. Cemented Oasis' place amongst the greats.
3. Standing on the Shoulder of Giants - I don't know why this gets a slagging. I think it's a great album, with great songs ('Gas Panic' is wonderful) with maybe only Noel's songs letting it down. The only reason it didn't get great press is because it was too tuneful for the up-their-own-arse music press, who spent their time wanking over Blur's frankly (and literally, for me) unlistenable 13.
4. Be Here Now - hmmmm. I think you're on your own, Boris. It's got very good songs on it, but suffers from being over-produced and over-long; the hype didn't do it any favours either, but having said that, it's still better than many 'difficult third albums' have a right to be.
5. Heathen Chemistry. Too early to tell - bought it last night and only heard it twice thus far. Very few albums indeed grab you by the balls from the off, and this isn't one of them. On first hearing it seems a bit disjointed, but with some interesting songs: Liam's two at the end will stand up with anybody's. Loses marks for being the first Oasis album to have a ******* hidden track, 30 minutes after the supposed end of the album; at least it's worth listening to (track 98 on Second Coming, anybody?).
6. Familiar to Millions. It is fitting that Oasis' worst album should have the worst title, even by their own poor standards. I was actually at that very gig, and enjoyed myself, but on C.D. it doesn't come across. I'm seldom a fan of live albums, generally speaking, and this doesn't add anything at all to my record collection, I'm sorry to say.
7. The Masterplan. Doesn't count: buy the singles, godammit! Like number 6 above, this smacks a bit of desperation on the part of the record company. However, I can't think of a band whose B-sides have been consistently as good, especially from 1994-7, so I believe this album is inadequate as it misses out too many classics!

A brief chronological run down of Blur's output:
1. Leisure. All right: 'There's No Other Way' an instant classic, but a bit dreary on the whole. They were shoegazers, after all.
2. Modern Life is Rubbish. The Blur fan's Blur album. I love it but wouldn't say it was their best. That accolade goes to...
3. Parklife ...for reasons described in my post above. Classic pop record, really.
4. The Great Escape isn't as good in retrospect as we thought at the time. Still something to be proud of, but they took the cheesy characters too far - God save us from Ken Livingstone!
5. Blur. How cruel - the album that opens with, arguably their greatest ever single ('Beetlebum') then follows it with 'Song 2' has got to be a classic, hasn't it? Er, no. From that point on, only 'On Your Own' and 'M.O.R.' are any good; the rest is fuzzy atonal noodlings from Graham Coxon with Damon Albarn mumbling over him. Dreadful - talk about from the sublime to the ridiculous.
6. 13 - unlucky for some (i.e. those who bought it). Should've been called The Emperor's New Clothes, as it exposed the critics as pretentious twats. 'Tender' is 'Give Peace a Chance' with different words (yet no flak for copying Lennon), 'No Distance Left to Run' is, er, listenable and 'Coffee & T.V.' is the only thing on the album with a tune (albeit one Coxon tries to spoil with his guitar solo). The rest of it was abysmal. My housemate bought a copy on day of release, and I literally couldn't get through it. What a load of balls.
So there we have it, Nookie - my measured response to your worrying assertion that Blur somehow were better.
P.S. The only reason why 'Country House' beat 'Roll With It' is that the former came in two C.D.s (which all the Blur completists bought), whereas the latter had only one.

I have every album except Heathen Chemistry, as I haven't got the money until Saturday to buy it.
My Order:
1. (What's The Story) Morning Glory?: The first album I heard, fell in love with it straight away. I didn't really listen to Oasis' early stuff, but this one hit it off for me. So many great songs.
2. Familiar To Millions: I just love all the songs on the album.
3. Definitely Maybe: When I was younger I didn't like this album, but as I've grown older, I've grown fonder of it. Some great tracks on this one too. Oasis' two best proper albums are definitely there first two.
4. Be Here Now: Another album I like, just not as much as (WTS)MG and DM.
5. The Masterplan: Because it was an Oasis album I just had to buy it. Has two of their best ever B sides on it, Acquiesce and Masterplan.
6. Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants: Least listened to. Probably because of the bad publicity. Only ended up buying it because the shop I was in was selling it for £7.99.

Totally agree with all this Zonin. Definately Maybe was my favourite album of the 90's , a band who had something to prove, not the fat bloated rock gods they are now. I'll always remember seeing them at the Brighton Centre just after they released Definitely Maybe & Slide Away made my hair stand on end, amazing!!
I stopped listening after WTHSMG, but will watch em Saturday for old time sake & the old tunes off the first 2 albums.
PS Best song of theirs??

Supersonic, Live forever, Slide Away, Cigs & Alcohol, Whatever, and many of the b-sides circa 1994-1998 are classics imo.....only beaten by the classic Roses, Charlatans and Mondays tunes of the same if not earlier era...having met Liam at one of their early gigs, Venue New Cross 1994, (b4 Supersonics release) I can confirm he has always been an arrogant wa**er, but with a nice side....he bought me and my mates a round !!

I'm not ashamed to say that I first heard Definately Maybe being previewd in HMV one day whilst working in Guildford, and went back every lunch hour to hear more of the album before finally buying it on the release date. I absolutely loved what I heard and couldn't shut up about it to everyone I met. As mentioned above, Slide Away was such a massive tune that I'm still amazed it never got a single release. Also Supersonic was the other tune on the album I skip to first off when I did the album out. I own all of their other records but have to say they do nothing to inspire me now. Danni has bought the new one, and I haven't even bothered to check it out yet.
Unlike the Beatles, whom they promised to replicate, superstardom did nothing but overhype them and kill their raw creativeness. With expectation heaped on their shoulders, they failed to do what all multi-album artists have to do, which is evolve.
There's no doubt that Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger will be their best remembered songs, and don't get me wrong, they are fantastic tracks, but even by then they'd lost something in my book.
Now, dare I say it, all their songs do sound like one's they've released on previous albums.

Oasis are, and remain, one of the classiest acts ever. Saw them live in Hong Kong on the Be Here Now tour, and that cemented their place as legends in my mind's eye.
Seems it's no longer "hip" to admit to liking them because of their fame and bad behaviour... tough, I'll still belt out "'cos all I need are cigarettes and alcohol"... "she done it with a doctor, on a helicoptor"... oh yeah baby Uni days all over again!
Blimey Latvian Eagle and others you must have been all of about 8 or 9 I guess when Oasis hit the scene with such a bang in '94... God I feel old

'What's the story...' is the one.
Didn't buy the most recent albums Fimiliar to millions and 'Standing on the shoulders of giants'. Mainly due to cash, and also because I didn't hear enough of the tunes to warrant a purchase.
I'm going to sound like a right mug now, but what's the newest album called ? (as I really want to buy that)
Slide Away, Whatever & Champagne Supernova are classic tunes. Roll with It first got me into the band though.

Saw Oasis at Finnsbury Park last night, got quite rat - arsed and very muddy. Got there for the Charlatans and Oasis, missed the rest of the bands but still a great night although Oasis did not play all of the old classics e.g. Wonderwall and were not on stage for as long as I would have hoped. There were alot of thuggish looking Mancs! But also there was FRANK SKINNER and after I barraged through the whole crowd to go to the Beer tent when I returned I was a few yards from him and rather drunk, starting singing Pro Skinner songs and got a handshake off the guy at the end assuring him we let them win on the last game of the season.
P.S. If anyone is going tonight or Sunday then be aware you will be held up for a long time by police horses in packed crowds when trying to get to the tube station and also beware the merchadise stools don't accept SOLO so take plenty of cash inside

Definitely Maybe is easily the best actual studio album (I don't count the Masterplan as an album because it is just a bunch of songs cobbled together that had already been released -- though it does also have some of the very best Oasis songs, especially Masterplan and Rockin Chair). Nothing they can do will every re-create that rawness that shone through. It was under-produced but it captured the spirit of the times and also had some of their best songs.
What's the Story is the Second best. Wonderwall will live on forever in the musical collective memory because it was so uniquitous at the time. It was a powerful album and basically just rocked hard.
Be Here Now had some anthems but was too long, over-produced and self-indulgent. Having said that Stand By Me is still one of the best songs to listen to at an Oasis concert (I've been to eight now!).
Standing on the Shoulder of Giants has a couple of decent songs, but I think is basically just a waste of musical space. Not much on there at all to bring me back.
I actually think that Familiar to Millions is a decent live album. Admittedly there aren't many decent live albums to come out in recent years (Nirvanna Unplugged, Jeff Buckley: Mystery White Boy, and ... um well that's it basically) but it does compare favourably to most.
And then finally Heathen Chemistry. Again sounds decent so far. I will have to wait a while to pass true judgement. I think Stop Crying is a classic. And I also think that Little by Little is a strong second best song.
