View Full Version : Best Palarse game memory
It's close between my reffing great performance, and then many beatings administered at the GG on Boxing Days past.
However, I was also at the game that marvellous night in Jan 1995. A mate of mine was a MUFC season ticket holder, and suggested to come along (it was a sell out)and try to get a ticket. I got one for the Glaziers Lounge from that pub opposite Norwood Junction, and was in the seats just about level with where Saint Eric of Cantona kicked out at Shaw, before he put that t*at Simmonds in his place. Because everyone was standing up, you couldn't see exactly what had happened down the front, but a quick phone call to the better half along the lines of 'Please record Sportsnight, something big has happened here' and indeed it had. Splendid entertainment, Simmonds deserved everything he got, a lesson to all those weedy cowardly people who scream obscenities at players all game and then report them as soon as they react. My most hated variety of football fan.

Next time Moan United play Newcastle have a look at the crowd and just see the kind of abuse that pours down upon Alan Shearer. You'll see more "Matthew Simmonds" there than you ever will anywhere else.
Of course, if Shearer "did a Cantona" and jumped into the crowd to give some of them a kicking, doubtless he would come off much worse than the fans in the ensuing media circus.

Whenever I see the picture of C*ntona's Kung-Fu kick on Matthew Simmonds I always wished one newspaper had been brave enough to headline it:-

Its funny because up until that night I had always hated Eric Cantona being a scum utd player, but in that 1 superb foot raised lunge he forever immortalised himself as an Albion legend!

As someone who has done a reasonable amount of Martial Arts, admittedly not Kung-Fu, but a well known Korean kicking art, I can assure you that Cantona's kick cannot be class as a martial arts kick. It was a desparate jump over the hoardings only, there was no technique in it at all. In short, he failed, unlike Simmonds who managed to tw@t the French c*nt.
