Just been watching the Derby v Blackburn game, and have been very impressed by the young lad. He seemingly plays the holding and attacking midfielder role in one, so would be the engine that could help us in games this season. He could switch where required with Campana, as they both join the attack.

Worth some good money according to recent rumours, but can't be on a huge wage, and we could offer him 1st team Premiership football. Would also have the all important resale value!

I've been watching the game too and he has been head and shoulders the best player on the pitch imo, only 18 as well. Probably needs another year at derby and then the big clubs will come calling

Good player, we probably need to look at other positions at the moment.

They want 10-15m for him. Way too expensive.

TheRev

IMO we need two defenders, a midfielder and a forward. We have too many wingers already. A young promising mid is exactly what we could do with I reckon.

Recent talk has suggested approx 7, which isn't ridiculous considering the low wages and resale.

Won't happen imo, would have been like us selling zaha to a Wigan or a Norwich last summer. They won't sell now unless they get stupid money for him.

Trouble is that when big fees are paid, players, or rather their agents, start bumping up their wage demands.

They won't sell for less than 9m.

Would love to get him, but I should imagine Derby will hold onto him for at least this season, or until they know promotion is off the cards, as I think they're making the push this season.

I think he's content at Derby but if he were to leave there would be teams willing to give more that us especially in wages. It's a bit like us selling Zaha to ... Norwich

Deserved mom in that game. Can't see why we wouldn't be considered a step up with some first team Premiership action. 7/8 mill would be doubled if he does well.

I'm sure we would, but Derby seem to want a bit too much and we probably have more pressing matters to pursue.

He's class but is already on the radar of the likes of Man City, Spurs, Arsenal, etc and he'll go for 10 million+ I expect.

He got mom, he was very impressive, thought he faded in the last 20 mins but no surprise considering he is only 18 and covered so much ground. Would like to see derby do well this year, good core of young british players. Clough too negative second half though imo.

Can you imagine the reaction on here a year ago if Reading fans had said they should sign Zaha?

Well this is the equivalent. And that tells you how likely that is.

I thought he was very good against us at selhurst & seeing him on tv a few times last season he looked a very impressive player for an 18 year old. Destined for big things if he keeps progressing & hopefully he won't become part of the top 4 stack & rack system as this boy needs to play regular to get better.

Us saying we could sign Will Hughes is a bit like Bolton saying they could sign Zaha when they were in the Premiership.

This kid will do what Wilf did ie stay at his local club Derby, learn his trade and then join a big four club.

I thought he looked good, Rhodes barely had a sniff all game. along with grant hanley for Blackburn, who also impressed me, big strong defenders but both try to play out from the back rather than the usual championship hoof.

I think you're right, we need two defenders if poss, but another mid as cover for Jedi & Campana is essential. KG will not keep with the pace IMO, and much as I'd love O'Keefe to play a part, I can't see that he's quite Prem standard (yet!). Another striker is a must too.

I hear what you're all saying, but don't ask don't get?! What if Will wants a crack at the prem now & would jump at some 1st team action. Why the assumptive negativity?! We could add a minimum release clause of 15/20 for a top 4 club so he still gets his chance once the bids come in & we get a healthy profit :p

Where is the up side for us on taking on a young kid with lots of potential if we sign him for 8-10m and he has a release clause of just 5m more?

will he get ahead of williams......nope.....so you wanna pay 6-9million for a bench player that if he plays then he will stop williams progressing.

saying that...if the day happens when we get a massive offer for williams and if we wanna sell then this kid is the perfect replacement.

^ this.

As I said in the OP, Hughes was truely all over the place, defending and closing down their defence forcing errors to attack. He's an archetypal box to box player and would definitely compliment the team, and his youth would not work against him, as a good portion of the 1st team is young too. I think 6/7mill plus add ons would be a fantastic signing, and if we insert a sell-on clause make sure it's enough to make a healthy profit - even if that is only 5-10mill - he would be worth that and more if he helps keep us in the Prem!

Will go to a bigger fish if at all. Bit like us with Wilf- why sell for 10m when promotion could get you 120 million.

Expect they will cash in next year if they don't go up.

He is an excellent player, tracked by the biggest clubs and has recently signed a new deal.

From a Derby perspective, they coul get more than we would pay, and their fans would be fuming if they sold him to us. Imagine if we'd sold Joniesta to a team like West Brom when he was actually able to play football.

Would never happen.

Brilliant talent though.

This is another thing.

Look at Williams.

99% of fans don't put him in their starting 11 (when he's actually fit) but want him here around the club like a mascot to collect splinters.
