I like him and always have done so. Right sort for a relegation fight as well. However whether we are going to spend our precious dosh on an an area where we are already strong is another matter. Further more no he will have no resale value. So a tentative yes from me but must be well down Ollie's wish list, that is if he's on it in the first place.

*Stay at Spuds and sit the season out
*Move on loan

Not beyond the realms of possibility.

MasterYoda
05-08-2013, 12:51 PM
The only reason Parker plays in "Joniesta's position" is if we go defensive with him, Campana and Jedinak and then allow for 3 attacking front players. But they're not exactly like for like.

I don't understand comments like this. If he does play in Williams' position then that's because the manager thinks he is an upgrade. So that's a good thing, isn't it? If Williams gets picked instead of him that means we have a player of the year of only a couple of years' ago on the bench as back up. Which is a good thing, isn't it?

And one of the positives for Williams is that he can play across the three supporting the central attacker and a a pinch in a withdrawn midfield role. Which is a good thing, isn't it?

So we could play both Parker and Williams? A good thing?

Surely we don't want only eleven players who are first choice? Surely we want at least 25 plus good kids, many of whom that can play in a variety of positions?

And surely we can't treat our Academy graduates as sacred cows?

So QPR have agreed a deal and now need to persuade Parker. Think they will find that hard with the World Cup just around the corner. Would kill any chances he has of going to Brazil.

I'm a bit confused by what Redknapp said though:
"If you talk to [former Arsenal striker] Paul Merson, he'd say some of the best years of his career were at Portsmouth when he joined me for a season and won the league there.

"Sometimes you can have more enjoyment playing for a team who are looking to go somewhere than at a team who are maybe hanging on in the Premier League with no real chance of winning anything or getting in the top six and maybe being in a battle all year to stay in the division. "

Does he mean Spurs? Or is he talking about other teams that want him?

Actually from what I saw last season Williams is not a bad defensive midfielder either. I was amazed how many headers he won in midfield for such a small guy. Also with any loose ball he is so quick that he can easily win a free kick and hence possession.

There's more to football than hard tackling and giving away fouls. We would be better without him IMO. If he ends up going to the World Cup, England might as well give up.

Ron Dogers

Parker is only any use with someone next to him he can pass to that can pass more than 5 yards

This is a player that has played top flight football for the majority of his career. He is 10 X the player KG will ever be (ability-wise of course!).

Hazzacpfc
16-08-2013, 02:40 PM
Parker alongside Jedinak would be an excellent shield for our comparatively weak centre backs. Would need someone like Garvan or Campana near them to act as a deeper-lying playmaker though, as neither can pass more than ten yards.

Surely out of our price range though?

AJ
16-08-2013, 02:41 PM
I like Scott Parker but not for 3.5m with his wages. He is 32 and only played 20 times last season, he is not at the end yet, but no way should a club pay that much for him. Maybe 500k-1m is more realistic. QPR are going for broke so it doesn't matter, Parker will help get promotion and then he is a throw away player for them.

Problem is our center halves would be heavily exposed with pace so defending deep was our only real option. By squeezing up we'd need to be pressing and Spurs would've had the quality to find the gaps in us imo.

We should start a rumour that we've had a 5m bid accepted for Calvin Andrew. That'll teach em.

Fulham are started to grate a bit, they've stolen our niche in the london club hierarchy. Another time for this but if we'd managed ourselves through the 90s a bit better theres a fair chance we'd of established ourselves in the PL like they've done instead.
