We've been saying for years that Brighton's new 'support' from 2012 are just plastics from other clubs. Apart from WCP on NSC everyone could see that we've had much bigger crowds than them for decades and you can't just magic 20K out of thin air.

Now its become clear that a massive chunk of their new support do not exclusively support Brighton (source: North Stand Chat) what do we think thats going to do to the poor souls that whinge on about attendances as if they are important :D

I suppose it might make them feel better that we still don't care about attendances :D

(It must be painful for their hardy band of proper fans seeing whats been going on over the last few years. If only they'd stopped having ago at all the other clubs ;))

We probably do have more fans who only support us v fans who only support them, but, who cares? Only a total div cares about attendance or number of fans to begin with.

People like Londoner or WCP. I've never argued we're better than Millwall because we have more fans. We're better because we're not scum.

In case you have forgotten sunshine, you have 10,000 new fans but that still doesn't beat our attendances. Please please don't discuss this any further unless you want me to make a complete tit out of you. It wouldn't be the first time either.

Imagine how many more fans could have attended the Arsenal game, perhaps watching on big screens outside the Amex, had they not tragically drowned in their own jizz at the prospect of a PL team coming to your little town.

Must hurt that many of those 'fans' turned up and supported Arsenal.

Indeed NSC confirms that Brighton are content to be most supporters' second club.

Try wearing an oppo shirt at Selhurst and see what happens.

Let's get some facts in here, sunshine

1. When was the previous occasion you had a 30k crowd ? The 1970's or maybe early 80's ?
2. You gave more tickets than normal to the away fans PLUS you know full well there was probably another 5000 'supposed' Brighton fans, who were really following the Gooners, on Sunday
3. The capacity of Selhurst Park is 26000 (and because the bloody police insist on sterile seats near the away fans section, we can't even get that in the ground). So how could we squeeze 30000 into our ground. ?!
4. If you bothered to do some proper research, you will notice that the last time CPFC had a sub 10000 average gate was the 1988/89 season. While from about 1986 to when you formed your new club in 2011 (when you started following Brighton) you always had well under 10000 fans - And that includes when you were at the larger Goldstone ground and you couldn't even normally fill the Withdean.

So stop being a total tit yourself and look forward to your relegation 6 pointer at Blackpool !

Best if you give it a miss then !

the key point is that any other club would just be grateful for the 200m injection and keep their head down. The fact that the new infrastructure means they can never make a profit (apart from player sales or by getting promoted) and are so massively living outside their means seems to be ignored !

Unfortunately their fans have systematically boasted about their new massive fanbase that have magically appeared since 2012 (look how small their crowds were for many years beforehand), have made fun of other clubs living outside their means and have looked down their noses at so called 'smaller' clubs with disdain (eg Derby, Leeds, Forest !).

The fact that this has all been a myth (as we've all known) is hilarious. This isn't stooping to their level - its just laughing when big headed boasters get their cum uppance. :)

The key point is that attendances are irrelevant, and only a div thinks they have any significance. Man United fans have more fans than us, so what? Thank God we're not like them. Millwall have less, and again thank god we're not like them.

Anyone trying to claim some kind of superiority over fan numbers is an idiot

Why do we entertain such a joke club who have never stepped up nor challenged us. When there fans come on here and gloat about attendances, as their biggest achievement, it shows what mugs they really are.

We should just forget them and let them rot in the lower leagues

Totally agree. As was often argued in the promotion season I'd much rather be in and amongst 15,000 of our own proper fans than 30,000 half and half scarf wearing day trippers.

You've had one, and only one 30k crowd this season. For a top draw in the cup. With at least 10k being Arsenal fans.

As you will be aware, your figure of 10,000 "new" fans is incorrect, we have attendances around 7k up on our last Championship season. We are operating at around capacity for most home games.

And if you ask the Local Authority for the actual figures of attendances at the Amex this season (Google FOI request), you will find that with crowds ranging as low as 16k to 18k, on numerous occasions this season fewer people have attended BHA at home than Palace.

Facts.

Well yes. Brighton, having thought they were on their way to overtaking Palace, are firmly beck in our shadow. We've had bragging rights now for 30 years. 30 years of them being in our shadow. It obviously hurts.

They have no come back, so have latched onto attendances as some kind of security blanket. It's desperate and makes them look even more Mickey Mouse than they already are.

talking of facts and I know we don't care about attendances too much but we've only averaged less than 15K twice in the last 25 years. In 2010 (14,771) and 1995 (14,992) when I think there was reduced capacity ?

(ps - in that period pre 2012 Brighton averaged under 6.5K)

Attendances are especially irrelevant for Palace, who could play in front of nobody, and still rake in £70m a year or whatever it is. Compare this to Brighton, who regardless of how 'huge' their crowds are, still lose £10m a year.

Indeed, Vince. Proof that no matter how many tickets you sell, if a club hedges its bets on onfield success and fails to deliver, the ramifications are huge.

FACTS:

Palace average attendance over the past 25 years. 17000. Lowest (14700 – highest 23k)

Every year – Palace have had an attendance of 20,000 +

Last time we had 30,000 in our ground you had 14,000.

Brighton’s average attendance over the same period is 8029.

Mitigating circumstances: Taking out the Withdean/Gilligham years – where people refused to go as it was an athletics track/*insert other excuse here*, which they never filled

Brighton’s average attendance (Goldstone/Amex) over the period is 11,000.

In that time we have taken between 17,000 – 42000 (depending on tickets available) fans to Wembley/Millenium stadium on seven occasions.

Brighton went to the millennium stadium in 2004 (!?) and never sold out their allocation.

Brighton have never really had large attendances, until recently. Given that we can only get 22,000 approx home fans in the ground these days… Our support hasn’t doubled overnight at all – it’s quite consistent.

Brighton's are purely JCL's.

If 33% on a fans' forum are not renewing, then they are in trouble.

I imagine many will renew when push comes to shove, but even at 20% it looks like then could see a reduction of over 4k fans next season = >£2M lost revenue.
