View Full Version : We said/they said - who was right?

Although the "Insights from Brighton fans" thread allows us to capture contemporary pearls of wisdom from our South Coast chums, I thought it might be worth having a thread where we can, through the tempered lens of history, examine the claims made to see who was right and who was wrong.

Rules are all such claims have to be at least as old as the last season. Please put down what we said, what they said, and who was right.

For example:

Season 12/13

What we said "Brighton will have 2nd season syndrome and get relegated"
What Brighton said "No we won't"

Who was right? They were. Though Palace and Brighton would indeed finish the season a division apart, it was not for the reasons Palace fans had so confidently predicted.

Any more for any more?

These jesters will go down with record low points.

Season 11/12

They said "Glenn Murray is shit, we didn't want him anyway, we've signed CMS who is miles better"

We said "We've just poached your best striker on a free, and you've signed a League One labradoodle who runs around and has no end product. You've been mugged on both counts"

Who was right? We were. Glenn Murray went on to score the goals which would take us to the Premier League, and Brighton fans now widely recognise that they were wrong about Murray and we were right about CMS.

They sang they were going to Wembley at SP.

I remember saying something along the lines that their defence of Lewis Dunk's on pitch thuggery was misplaced, and unless corrected, would hamper his development and future worth in the transfer market

They seemed to think that slowly building a squad in the Championship that would be able to stay in the PL longer would be the way to go. I said their best players would be too expensive to keep for too long, and would want to **** off before long anyway

They said the last manager (can't recall his name) was going to be brilliant

One of my personal favourites was them saying (after 2011 and the birth of football history in Brighton) that they were now the dominant force in this rivalry

Wilf was a shit Bas Savage.

Wilf would never play for England

Bridcutt was better than Jedinak.

Pulis is a dinasour who would take us down playing ugly Football.

CMS was better than Murray.

They said the Amex would be the money spinning powerhouse that would propel them into the big time.

We said it would be a financial millstone around their necks, not just in terms of build cost, but running costs

I recall summat about who's up Peter Ward.
After that it just became a haze.

We said managerial appointments like Hyypia and Oscar were somewhat pretentiously based on them having foreign names and links with glamorous clubs, and that this, coupled with their lack of Championship experience, is perhaps not the best course to take in order to get promotion.

They said they would not only excel in terms of points, but play that classy, entertaining brand of superior football they inexplicably link to their club in the process

They said that Vicente was the best player EVER to play in the Championship.

I suppose he was - In about the 3 games he was actually fit, for the 2 seasons he was at the Amex..........before in left in a huff.

He's now a Premier League defender.

Another favourite of mine was them saying none of our players would get in their team. You know the team thats sat near the bottom of the championship, but still they have better players than us:D

In fairness Speroni and Jedinak made their bench.

True enough so why not post up everything WCP has ever spouted and then critique it.
Well either that or rip the piss out of it.

Who said what is irrelevant except one thing.

One young man, declared Shite by the Amex faothful, said two little words one glorious May evening in 2013.

He might just have had, the biggest say in his Crystal Palace career.

THIS ^, still REALLY hurts. That and losing 3-0 on St. Patrick's Day to even up the league aggregate for that season. I suppose they had the last laugh that season by finishing one spot above us with a vastly superior goal difference and even more importantly a higher average attendance.

Will we EVER get revenge? :hmph::sob:
