Just came across this site and thought I'd check to see if there were any bombings during the war and have seen there was a high explosive bomb dropped on Holmesdale Rd in 1940/41.

http://bombsight.org/bombs/19377/

I was just wondering if anyone has anymore information on this?

(Not sure if this should be in Memory Lane or not, feel free to move if so)

There was a poster on the BBS who about 6 months to a year ago had a thread going which was crammed with newspaper 'cuttings' related to Palace which he somehow managed to harvest off the internet.

One of them described about a bomb landing in the vicinity of the ground.

Will try and find it

This is the thread

and its the very first post on the first page.

Not the same incident as on the bombsite page though

Cheers for that Dorking.

I wonder if perhaps the website has the wrong information given from when the bomb dropped on Homesdale Road as they could only estimate a date on which it was dropped.

Another search, this time of Crystal Palace Park, for those interested.

Every time in all my decades of supporting Palace no matter how well we do that Holmesdale bomb goes off at the wrong time. Just like the very last time 2 days before this season. Please, hopefully now someone has diffused it. Oh, here come the Americans. BOMB THE BASTARDS! We're f*cked again.

Isn't one of those bomb symbols there to denote where Pembo's penalty landed ?

lots of bombs were dropped around Crystal Palace park and Upper Norwood due to the railway network

Slightly off topic but mu Mum lived in Woodland Rd and was strafted by a german fighter whilst in the park, she was 10 at the time!
