All,

After a clear out from the loft, quite a few CP VHS tapes and Season Reviews were discovered. Given the nature to preserve these sorts of things are having increasing importance, i've converted as many as possible to YouTube.

(It's probably likely that at some point YT may remove the footage but until they do, i hope CP fans are able to enjoy the videos. Hopefully this isn't against rules of the Mods)

Bloody fantastic post. Thanks for all of the time and effort it must have taken to post these. Great to have these for posterity.

Why can't the club just stick them online and sell the old season reviews for a fiver a pop?

Great to see these gems. Some of the younger fans won't realise how big the annual "season review" was back in the 90's. I need to sit down one day and upload all the league matches I have circa 88-94.

Thanks so much for this. Great to have an archive of all of this old footage.

I know it's only a select group of people that are interested in it but I'd love the club to have some of this stuff available online officially. They've made such big improvements with the media content coming out of the club that it would be nice for posterity to have this accessible to old fans and new. For starters it would help save Emmanuel Adebayor with a whole load of wikipedia reading.

Nice to see footage of the 3-3 game V Ipswich from 86/87 on the Do the Wright Thing video. One of my first games that one. Mark Bright's debut as well. Remember they used to show all the goals from that season on the TV's in the maintand back to back at the time. Used to do my head in but would love to see them again now if anyone on the BBS has those old VHS tapes somewhere?

Where did you get them? They look homemade from news clips/ highlights at times but then there is the female narrator like on a season review.

Really enjoying going through these clips. I did remember the incident from the away leg semi final against Sunderland when Gray was sent off and Mcateer was standing on the touch line telling him and other Palace players to "eff off" unfortunately on the review clip it doesn't show the moment after the penalties when he is seen crying and being consoled by a member of their backroom staff. Do others remember this ? Though I was in my mid to late 30@s at the time I remember jumping off the sofa and shouting "Haha you big baby now you can eff off" That might sound rather daft nowadays but heat of the moment stuff etc

Where did you get them? They look homemade from news clips/ highlights at times but then there is the female narrator like on a season review.

The club didn't produce an official 2006/07 season review in the summer of 2007. When the club did compile the 2007/08 season review, there was an added second disk in the box to include the 2006/07 season after some fan pressure had demanded it.

However, what the club produced wasn't lengthy nor complete nor that professional to be honest. There was footage of some games like defeats away to Luton where that game finished 2-1 to Luton but the CP season review only showed one LUTON goal from the game. If you are going to show a short clip, you'd show the palace goal or even if the footage was compromised, mention the goalscorer.

There were some holes and i will concede that clips like the opening fixture vs. Ipswich came from YouTube to help fill some gaps. If anyone out there has got extra footage, i'm more than happy to see them on this thread and bulk up the video library further.

The club did not produce anything for 2008/09 season. If you want to see goals from that season, you either have to watch the 2005-11 DVD that the club produced (which is on my list in the opening post) or YT fan compilations like this one for Shefki Kuqi. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3QXJOdXnjY ) or Nick Carle ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBCwyWVGE-c ) rely on other teams like this clip from Reading ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNORbRes1ys ) or this cup clip from Leicester ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_18dVNoHyo8 ) or scour YT for clips like this Alan Lee goal vs. Doncaster at home ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIwV3eE1wN0 ) or Anthony Stokes' only goal for the club vs. PNE ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LevitSITTwQ ) or Neil Danns in same game ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n04R8s3sov0 )

I would love someone at the club like a Terry Byfield or whoever to provide historical footage and fill in the blanks as the club must have the footage in the archive vaults somewhere but until they do, this is all we have to go with.

Cheers - to be honest I didn't realise they had released an offical one in 07/08 until now. I missed that completely!! EDIT: Just checked and I do have it but I don't have the second disc with that 06/07 one on.
Is the 06/07 one on youtube the disc the club added plus some editing that you have done yourself?

I think I have all the others (and centenary DVD). Did you see my earlier post re. the 89/90 review? I have that on VHS but dont know how to convert it to a digital file - do you have that at all? Would love to get a digital version of that too!

There were some holes and i will concede that clips like the opening fixture vs. Ipswich came from YouTube to help fill some gaps. If anyone out there has got extra footage, i'm more than happy to see them on this thread and bulk up the video library further.

That 06/07 review has one goal from the 2-2 draw with Burnley in September - the other 3 can be found here (and with far higher quality).

Update:

I uploaded a VHS called "Crystal Palace - The Classic Matches" (found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mk5ubcStjsU ) a while ago and it's a great VHS voiced by Brian Moore but maybe i made a mistake uploading it in its entirety.
Games within that VHS tape were the 5-0 vs Man Utd, Don Rogers vs Stoke 73, Possee vs Bristol City 74, 3-0 at the Den 77, Vince vs Brighton 78, Walsh vs Charlton 81, play off home game vs Blackburn 89, 4-3 game vs Wimbledon 90 and finally 1-0 victory vs Liverpool 90/91 season with small tidbits from Allison/Venables etc

Maybe i should have split the tape footage and uploaded the games separately. I subsequently obtained a VHS called "The Big Match - Classics Vol 1" and split the games up.
Games featured on that tape include 25 minutes of the 5-0 game versus Man Utd in 1972 (which i think is the longest amount of footage from that game)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCsCrBC4KVU

The tape also included some footage previously uploaded like the Don Rogers masterclass versus stoke BUT the tape did have some previously "lost" footage which came from Shrewsbury in 1975.

League Division Three: Shrewsbury Town 2 -4 Crystal Palace (20th Sept 1975) from Gay Meadow in front of 7,400 people. Swindlehurst, Kemp, Peter Taylor and a forced OG from an Evans header on the score-sheet for Palace.

That's a great collection of vids with regards Kember.

You hear the chant 'He's one of our own' far too often these days across the leagues but Kember truly is one of our own. Local lad and proper Palace fan.

As much as I hate him, Venables pulled a masterstroke bringing him back into our promotion winning side in the late 70's.
In a team of raw but very talented youngsters, Kember was exactly what was needed in that '79 side.

Goodwork PS :p:p Haven't heard that theme in years (Union - You are the number one) takes me way back to my youth watching football on a Sunday afternoon. Remember people tipping us to win this game (we'd just come of a great midweek win against Blackburn) defensively we were really poor and we were two down inside 20 mins which back then was often the way against Arsenal.

I stumbled across this today, whilst it is plainly about West Brom in 1962, this documentary was a fascinating insight into how far the game has evolved since and I think I counted at least four players that had either played for Palace (goalkeeper Ray Potter) or went on to join us from West Brom (David Burnside, Derek Kevan and Keith Smith - I believe Smith scored Palace’s fastest ever goal, after just 6 seconds away to Derby in 1964 - he also was Palace’s first ever substitute the following season, at home to Orient in August 1965).

I believe another former Palace keeper, Tony Millington was at West Brom whilst this clip was filmed, I will leave it to older Palace fans to decide if he is in camera too.

As well as this obviously spartan training facilities used by West Brom, which I’m certain I had better at my own school in the early 1970’s, it was of huge interest to see the two legendary figures of Bobby Robson and Don Howe there too, so early in their careers, who went on to be among the greatest coaches in the history of our game.

Many thanks. Only just seen this.

Yes, Tony Millington (sadly no longer with us) is in camera. A very happy go lucky chap always ready to share a joke or two when he was playing for the reserves in Combination matches on a Saturday afternoon when the first team was away. Unlucky in that he replaced Bill Glazier when a certain John Jackson wasn't far off playing first team football.

And what a match that was. The scores went 0-1, 3-1, 3-3 and finally 4-3 with a fantastic Mark Bright shot into the top corner. Lovely stuff. Hopkin scored a memorable own goal soaring over Suckling's head to open the scoring.

You wonder how any team could ever have conceded after going 1-0 up...could have spent the rest of the 90 minutes with the goalie and defence playing keep ball. In fact Liverpool came pretty close to perfecting that art at times in the 1980s. Grobelaar to Nicol to Hansen, back to Grobelaar, to Lawrenson etc etc and so on and so forth.

Except when you have a genius like Jeff Hopkin in your side and he lofts his back pass high over his keeper's outstretched arms and into your own net (see 1st goal in Palace 4 Millwall 3 match).
