43 years ago today. As a boy of 13, no one believed me when I got home and told them the score.

I was there also, memorable day. I sat in the Old Stand, upper bit, to the left of the halfway line. I was 10, infact the tickets I believe were purchased as a birthday present for me (9th). People go on about the atmosphere at Selhurst these days, but back in the 70s with 40,-45,000 inside, it was a great place to be. From memory we had something like 39,000 this day. Rogers/Whittle and Mulligan had blinders that day. " We want five " the crowd demanded, and we got it!!! happy days.

As far as I know, Paddy Mulligan only scored twice in his Palace career, and both were in that game! Happy days.

Who were you there with? According to my records you waited until the following season to make an appearance.

Well I remember the goals - Mulligan (2) Whittle and Rogers (2).

So surely that proves it.

Did you wait behind for Georgie Bests autograph

No - because:
1. He wasn't there
2. He wasn't playing for the team I support.

Georgie Boy had "gone missing" out on the lash and been dropped, iirc.

Ted MacDougall, the prolific goalscorer from Bournemouth we had been chasing, had opted for United and was playing for them.

We ended up with Don Rogers instead.

Brian Moore's finest afternoon of commentary.

His hysterical reaction as Rogers danced through for the 5th was priceless

1. Correct (that was a trick question)

2. If you only collect autographs from players who play for the 'team you support' why did you wait behind after the Shamrock Rovers v Middlesbrough friendly to get the autograph of Paul Gascoigne - Are you a Middlesbrough fan? (not a trick question)

Great memories of watching this game sitting on the wall behind the Whitehorse goal and then trying to replicate the fifth goal on the playground of All Saints - happy days

Call me anal ...but Palace reserves played at Swindon on this very day. 2:30 kick off. Bill Roffey captaining. My mate pittsy and i, as 12 year olds, took the local bus to the game .... could not believe the 5-0 score when i got home.

No - just being canny with an eye for a long-term investment....
