It'll be interesting to see the effect Jones has on England. I think it'll be close again this year. I'll go with Wales but am not really confident.

This weekend I reckon France, Wales and England to win.

TBH I am mostly interested in whether Maro Itoje gets any game time. Disappointed he didn't make the 23.

Was invited to the Wales Scotland game, but it is my mother's birthday and I cannot really get out of that.

I think France will do well this year.
They finally got rid of Saint André (admittedly two years too late) and have replaced him with Guy Novès the ex-Toulouse coach who masterminded them to three European Cup victories a few years back. There are 8 débutants one of whom is a Sevens player who hasn't played the 15-a-side game for two years.
Italy have a load of injuries and could get tonked this afternoon in what should be an emotionally charged atmosphere. This is the first game back at the Stade de France since the events of the 13th November last year!

Italy did a great job but that errant pass was the difference, it broke the Italian resistance. Would have been interesting to see how the game would have gone if Italy stayed within a try with 20mins to go.

Adlerhorst
15-02-2016, 08:51 AM
England would have likely won by twenty points rather than 30. There was more to England's victory than an intercepted pass. They got the first sixty wrong, but the last twenty was excellent and it was more than Italy being tired (Italy don't get get knackered after 50 mins any more). George and Itoje made large impressions. How sodding strong is Itoje. If he gets to the breakdown it seemed to take two seconds longer to knock him of his feet than anyone else. In the first sixty only really Kruis stood out as having a really good game.

Felt a bit sorry for him. He waited a long time for his full England début and EJ puts him in at 12. He's never played at 12 in his senior career?! What is wrong with these coaches? To make matters worse Care gets binned meaning there was no scrum half to dictate the play. Hopefully EJ doesn't persist with him at 12.

Glad we are playing on Friday which means I can watch the match against England. I am not as enthused as normal as I think the competition so far has been very poor and haven't seen a half of decent rugby.

I have a feeling England will win. I will be really honest and say if either side can play a reasonable amount of exciting rugby I won't begrudge them the victory. We are so far behind the SH and I actually think the gap is widening.

Farrell and Ford have both played 12 at age grade rugby, too... doesn't make them suited to it at full level.Daly has played outside centre, on both wings and at full back in the Premiership, which is a little higher standard than Whitgift under 15s. He can catch under pressure and has a cannon for a left foot. So I am not remotely worried about his inclusion to cover the back three.

Jones sees Tuilagi as a 12, so he's the cover there. My aunt (season ticket holder at Leicester) said he's started playing inside centre for them recently.

No question I see Tuilagi replacing Farrell at centre at some stage soon, but for this game it will probably be off the bench. The problem is Farrell is so dependable as a goalkicker, whereby Ford is still unpredictable so very risky for Jones to gamble as a kicker at this time. I would say long term the best centre pairing would be Joseph and Tuilagi.

I'm aware where he has played and, as a Wasps fan, I'm delighted he's getting the recognition he deserves but let's cut the crap - we have a fly half at inside centre and two centres on the bench. It's unbalanced, and Goode (one of the most consistent backs in the whole of Europe this season) must be wondering what he's done to piss Jones off.

And yep, Tuilagi is playing 12 rather than 13 since his return from injury, and has looked good. Still not sure how that helps the imbalance!

How is Ford keeping his spot? He didn't play well at all on Saturday and the charge down summed his season up. Sure, the pass to him was awful, but he's got to know that, spot the incoming blocker and change his actions. It's a split second thought, but it's a thought a player in form makes.

In Paris, I'd go Farrell at 10 and Tuilagi at 12, assuming EJ is happy Manu can play a full game.

Entry level for racist abuse aimed at another player is 4 weeks.

Entry level for eye-gouging is, I think, 12 weeks. Ashton got 10 as he got a 2wk reduction for previous good behaviour.

I can't believe Marler got away with it. The forearm "smash" was never a red card and so shouldn't have been cited, but the comment was unacceptable and sends a very poor message by not punishing.

Two of the penalties that Ireland were awarded and scored from were never penalties.

Why does this horribly elitist game and relatively minor sport get so much attention

one of the most exiting in many years , ourselves Ireland and Wales would give the Saffas and the Aussies a very good game indeed, the Kiwis are on a different level, I take it you didn't see the WC Q/F where Scotland were robbed against a Southern Hemisphere giant? How did the British Lions do in their very last tour? Eddie Jones rebuilding has been nothing short of remarkable

Worst ? No way. England's first half performances against Ireland and Wales were the most dominant displays from an English side since 2003. Totally changed their methodology. The last 15 against Wales was incredible as Wales fought back and the French gave us a scare as expected. Oh and Wales and Ireland drew. That doesn't happen often.

So no. Definitely not the worst

The TMO and the ridiculously long kicking routines are turning rugby in to a bit of a snoozefest. Farrells "rapey eyes" routine is cringe. Just hurry up and wallop the f*cking thing.

This isn't taking anything away from England, who I thought fully deserved the Grand Slam, but I didn't think much of the quality from any of the sides. There were glimpses from most of the teams in patches but little more than that.

I think, perhaps, that we were all a little spoilt from the quality of some of the teams in the World Cup.

I think you have to look at how good England's defence was. They conceded 4 tries all tournament. Only of those was against 15 men and that was self inflicted rather than being opened up. England had one bad defensive performance and that was against France. A Southern Hemisphere team would have punished the missed tackles in a way France could not. Also the lineout stole so much ball after France kicked penalties deep. Again that will not always happen.

After that you look at the first halves against Ireland and Wales and the sheer number of missed (though maybe butchered is a better description) opportunities and there is plenty of room for improvement going forward. Outside Centre and Fullback places have to be up for grabs now as Joseph and Brown had very disappointing tournaments.

I think that's fair comment, The WC really was great.

Still great to do the Slam though, I think England can give the Aussies a hard time in June over three tests.

sorry but I think we will have to agree to differ. It's only 6 odd months since the world cup & we are back in the blinkered view as we are all world beaters again. Lets wait till the tour of Australia & then gauge again.
