So we can discuss Finch to Surrey, Ford leaving etc in correct place.

Kentish people, feel free to tell us how Stevo is getting on too.

Anyone know if Kevin Pietersen is playing for Surrey in this year's Blast?

If so, Surrey with KP, Aaron Finch, Dwayne Bravo, Jason Roy and Azhar Mahmood are going to be exciting to watch.

Not sure if Finch and Bravo will ever play together.
Finch is signed to cover Sangakkara whilst he is playing in CPL, which Bravo will be at too.

I assume KP will be playing there too, so may only appear for part of Surrey's season.

they will play together in the 20/20 matches.

Finch is cover until the 2nd July so will play the first 5 20/20 matches I think.

According to Surrey website, Finch starts on July 2nd, and Bravo is signed for June.

Looks like there are 6 T20s in June and 6 in July, so plenty of opportunity to see either of them (and Sangakkara) but not at the same time!

An article in the Whitstable Times today suggests that Kent have offered a 6-week contract to Kagisho Rabada for the start of the season.

Very interesting, and during the recent SA/Eng series, kept thinking to myself that he'd be an excellent bowler in Championship cricket in April/May. Looked as though he could bat a bit as well.

Come on you Kent :lux:

Would I need to be a member to get tickets or can I turn up on the day/evening and buy tickets?

There's two games at Beckenham that look good here: http://www.kentcricket.co.uk/fixtures-results/fixtures?page=2

No membership required to buy tickets, you'll have no problem turning up on the day to pay on the gate but there is a free print-at-home option online, whereby you save 25% compared to the day price.

E.g.

NWT20 v Gloucestershire: £22 before 5 pm the day before. £30 at the gate.

RL One-Day v S****y: £17 before 5 pm the day before. £25 at the gate.

Going to be a very interesting season for Surrey, the new man will have to carry on the good work started. The new additions and lets not forget the new paceman, he will give us good variation and better balance and will be vital, what I would like to see is if Sibley has progressed enough to challenge for an opening slot. All being well I can see us challenging for a top 3 position at the very least.

Still no divisions / city teams for T20, though that may happen in 3 years when TV deal is redone.

Meaker's injury is either a case of not wearing his box in the nets, or left himself hanging out of his box when he takes a hit... Those are the only reasons you would need "minor surgery on the groin area" from batting...

Now Flower's gone, he might have a better chance if he got game time elsewhere... It's funny how Davies coming out coincided with him mysteriously being discarded from the England set up. I know he went through a rough patch shortly after the Maynard incident, but he deserved his place in the England set up before that, yet they didn't seem to want to know afterwards...

Surrey need to make a decision on their wicketkeeper position, pick a specialist and stick with him. I feel sorry for Foakes, but if Davies is given the nod due to his superior batting I don't have a problem as he is also a very capable Keeper.
This season will be much more competitive than last but what is concerning is the number of injuries occurring even before a ball is bowled, this season I would want Surrey to go for specialists in each department, rather than pack the team with allrounders as we have seen previously.
With luck on our side (injuries) I see a very good season ahead for Surrey.

Made up a packed lunch and got the bus from Whitstable over to the ground yesterday, Kent batted throughout a drizzly, grey morning but were scoring at a fine rate helped by Stevens/Coles/Claydon.

The old Dover Road side of the ground is now behind large green hoardings where the new flats are to be built by June 2017, which means we've lost the little hill/bank where we used to stand and drink from in the limited overs games.

Was at the Oval yesterday, Durham played sensibly and forcefully. Wonderful contrast between old trouper Paul Collingwood and 19 year old Jack Burnham. Imagine our amazement if Surrey had a teenager scoring a maiden century who'd gone to a local comprehensive. No, nor me. It doesn't happen when Surrey are more interested in signing similar aged teenagers from South Africa.

I think you are being slightly unfair to Surrey there.
Even ignoring Tom Curran, 5 of the players in this game (including 4 of the top 6) came through the youth team ranks, and made their County Championship debuts between the ages of 19 and 22.

I would agree that even with the foreign reinforcements that the bowling is looking weak so far. Maybe Meaker's cock will heal soon and improve things!

Young lad I know just made his debut for the 2nd XI yesterday. Ryan Patel. 49 yesterday and 2 wickets today. Unfortunately he's been forced to move to Wimbledon by Surrey as they want him to play Prem division cricket (even though our 1s are in Div 1!) He's a very good young player. Scored a load of runs on the academy tour to South Africa this winter.

Perhaps I should have emphasised Burnham's schooling - a state comprehensive school where cricket is played. Not many of those in London or Surrey.

This was in the Spectator earlier this year: http://www.spectator.co.uk/2016/01/in-most-state-schools-cricket-is-a-dead-ball-game/

Pillans struggled manfully but he won't be used to playing on English wickets yet. Thought he might have got a few matches for the seconds under his belt before Surrey threw him into the first XI. (McKerr is the Saffer teenager, Pillans is 24.)

Not sure how minor it is, but at toss there was this:

Ravi Rampaul not available due to a minor ankle strain...

Mark Footit is also out for a significant time with a side strain to go along with Meaker's box failure, whatever is up with Dernbach and Sam Curran's schooling.

How long before Tom Curran breaks down due to over-work?

Very disappointing about Sibley, he looked an outstanding prospect when scoring that wonderful innings, even Sangakara was full of praise of his potential. Unfortunately it must have gone to his head and forgot about the hard work he needed to put in if he was to progress.
Yes maybe questions do need to be asked of Surrey's coaching methods, as many of our promising young Bowlers and Batsmen over the past few years have failed to progress as expected, apart from the Curran boys. But sadly I feel they are a "breakdown" waiting to happen due to overplaying, also as we have already seen with our pace bowlers who seem to be falling like fly's, what is happening.
The danger now is what promised to be a very promising return to Div1 is looking like a long hard struggle ahead.

Ansari back for Surrey tonight in T20, though Burns is out with concussion suffered in the game against Lancs.

Very poor start to the season for Surrey. First innings batting has let them down horribly.

Bowling wasn't too bad until Rampaul got injured. Missing a lot of players through injury. Need a couple of class English batsmen at the top for the longer game. Sanga is great, but the others around him are lacking experience.

I agree we have had a horrendous time with injuries, which in itself is puzzling as to why so early in the season. There MUST be serious questions asked as to how that could have happened, the effects of that defeat could have a major bearing on the rest of our season as we will now struggle to stay up, and all this in as good as the First month of the season.

I can never work that out Keith, When in such a position to finish off a game spirits are high and tiredness is forgotten by players so why not enforce the follow on? that seems to be the only logical reason for not enforcing a follow on.
We need to get our heads right in the league asap, as before we know where we are we could be adrift and in deep trouble, as i said before the season is barely over a month old and we have lost far too many games, its an uncomfortable feeling for Surrey supporters right now.

Hubris inevitably leads to nemesis!

Another uninspiring batting performance it seems: everyone got to double figures, only one player made it past 32.

Good game in great weather today. The result was shite of course, but the game was exciting and went to the wire.
The ground at Beckenham must have the biggest area I have seen for a one day game. No short boundaries at all and both sides struggled for boundaries on either side of the wicket/ We thought that 255 was a bit short, but not sure.
We are at least one good batsman short at the mom especially with the poor form of Davies. Turning point today was Batty changing Meaker from the Palace end where i thought he bowled well with pace. He conceded 14plus runs in one over, but he was just given no support on the boundary by Batty. Although his figures were not great I thought he looked sharp.

Decent crowd of about 2k plus enjoyed the day and Kent just nicked it.
Really can't see us winning dick this season. Need improvement in all areas.

Marvellous innings by Alex Blake, a real finisher's knock culminating in a 6 smashed over Long-On to win the game on the penultimate ball :lux:

The chase by Somerset vs Gloucester yesterday on sky was fantastic to watch, though some poor captaincy from Klinger, bowling on all parts and wicket keeper missed run out they deserved to lose.

In hindsight a poor decision to bat as the storm at the Oval meant Duckworth/Lewis came into play and there was only going to be one winner - the side batting second.

Hats off to the Surrey groundstaff who did a magnificent job getting the match back on. It didn't seem possible with all the rain that fell. Nice cameos from Roy and Burns, Sangakkara was unluckily run out but the Surrey bowling was never threatening apart from tidy spells by Ansari and Sibley (at least good to see the latter back).

It's going to be a long old cricket season for Surrey.

Sibley and Burns do well but now we are back to Harinath.

Must be.

Kent are a bowler or two short of being a good side. Their inability to protect a score is going to irk me all summer.

Shit happens. Fast bowler with several injury free seasons is a prime candidate for getting injured IMVHO.

Agreed. If Notts get 380-odd on the fourth day (which I admit is a possibility) you have to say well done. Draws from such a strong position won't do.

If the bloody weather holds out then we should be in with a great chance of pulling it off in a must win game. Its vital though that we take the gamble of an early declaration and have faith in our bowlers ability to finish them off, hopefully this is the winning start of what to date has been a disastrous season.
