The point of this thread is to be a place to swap travel tips for those heading to Wembley from North America. Air fares around this time seem to be pretty wacky - I looked yesterday and Economy fares on BA from NY were more expensive than Premium Economy. Both were around $1900. I ended up booking Coach on AA to Edinburgh for under $1000. I'll make my way south by train and spend a few days in Scotland on the way back. They had similar fares to Man.. arrgh.
Other options from NY in include LA Compagnie which is all business class from Newark to Luton (a small town near Watford) at $1600 and Norwegian to Gatwick from NY,Orlando and Oakland .

Thanks for this. I just returned from going to the Semis and paid close to what you're seeing quoted now. Doubt I can to that again for the Final. Will follow this thread closely.

Cheers

Currently I can get $950 Canadian from Calgary to gatwick. Return leg isn't direct and via Toronto which will make a long day but being at Wembley watching palace will make up for any travel issues.

Your getting into the late spring (haha) and summer months. Fares will be expensive to London as it's tourist time here. Good luck to all in getting a good deal.

That looks like a really good deal even with the stopover.

Recently checking flights to Boston and Norwegian Air were by far the cheapest.

In the early days of their transatlantic services Norwegian had reliability/punctuality problems partly due to Dreamliner issues but that seems to have stabilized now . Nevertheless if there is a technical problem they won't be able to roll out a back up plane as quickly as the big airlines.

How do you plan to get tickets!? because presumably if you're flying all that way you're clearly confident.

Or is the answer money?

I paid $2224.00 non-stop round trip from LAX to LHR on American.

Already changed it once for a $300.00 fee, but the fair was $222.00 cheaper on the new day, so paid $78.00 more.

Most I've ever paid in 35 years of doing it.

I'm glad I have an understanding wife! Although I'm sure she will be holding this against me for the rest of our lives!

I booked a nonstop round trip flight from IAH to LHR for roughly $700 on United. Think it just depends on the days, as that is for a Thursday late departure and a return on Tuesday.

managed to transfer some Amex points to Virgin and booked using them. Still the usual $400-500 in fees and add-ons but eases the cost a little and I don't feel so guilty :)
Was at both Cup Final games and have flown back for all of the Play-Off Final games so not coming home for this was never an option......

Flight book. US$614 from Toronto to Gatwick on Air Transit!! Means a 4 hour drive from Michigan but saves $1200 compared with flying direct from Detroit!

Club Wembley ticket reserved through SportsWorld. 650 including hotel which I will need to catch early flight back on the Sunday.

If I manage to get a ticket through Palace I'll sell on the Club Wembley ticket.

I'm feeling a little screwed with what I paid, but it is almost door to door service, so ho hum.

Plus the 11,000 miles will get me something in the future.

Luckily Toronto has a couple of low cost airlines flying to the UK which drives the price down and the US$ is strong against the CAN$ at the moment. We have taken advantage of this for our last couple of trips to the UK. Saved a ton of money flying a family of 4. The 4 hour drive is a bit of a pain but manageable. We are used to long drives in the midwest!

I seem to be paying over $600 in taxes to LHR... how do you avoid that? (Gatwick I guess!)

What dates are you flying?

Using Google Flights the average from LAX to LHR is around $1100.

Another ploy with American - if you are an AA Advantage member - is to "buy" some miles and then use them for an award ticket. It can be cheaper when, like now, they are throwing in bonus miles, but also if you cancel you can dump the miles back in your account for use on a future trip with lower cancellation fees than of paid cash.

OK - so I f'ed up. Let me live with that. There is always going to be someone who gets it cheaper, no matter how low you go.

Just booked United airmiles tickets: Newark - LHR 50,000 miles and about $250 in tax. Which just goes to show what a disgraceful rip-off BA are by charging around $650-$700 taxes and fees on transatlantic airmile tickets.
