You want a cult hero?

Look no further.
The great man is 60 today.

He's on FB. Anyone not connected to him, please post your best wishes and memories and I will point him in this direction.

Still hoping to get him down from Nottingham for a game one of these days!

He was an enigma but as you say a cult hero one of our best when we won 4-2 at Wrexham against all the odds in 1977

Happy Birthday Rash the Smash!

One of the outstanding figures from our earliest battles with the Seaweeds, he was a fearsome competitor and we already had people like Jimbo, Taffy and Noddy who were all as hard as nails (
I meant Jim Cannon, Ian Evans and Phil Holder, not comic book characters!).

Not many Palace players, before or since, could hit a ball with such venom as Spider.

One memory, among the many blockbuster goals and blood and thunder challenges was the nasty leg break Ian Evans got in a home match with Fulham circa 1977/78.

George ******* Best did it and tried to casually walk away as if nothing had happened.

Rach was having none of it and nearly strangled Best, I think he would have done had not other Palace players intervened.

A sad day, but a wonderful image to take into tomorrow's game, getting a Wankchester leg end by the throat. C*nt*na? Rachid would have you for his breakfast and leave your bones for Jimmy Cannon to grind his teeth on!

P.S. Rachid, if you are reading this thread and know where you or perhaps Silky and Mr V can get hold of some moody foreign banknotes, I would be most obliged as I'm off on my hols soon!

Cheers Spider! $ € :lux: :afro:

Good grief how the time has flown. What an exciting player he was so unpredictable Bolasie has nothing on him, but to be honest he was so wasteful of his talent if only he could have realised that. I would say over the years having seen many very talented Palace players he was probably the most naturally gifted but also erratic player to have graced the Red & Blue. But he left me with some wonderful memories short as it may have been.

Will never forget a goal he scored against Swindon in a 5 v 0 win or against Brighton in the FA Cup.

Rachid Harkouk, A boyhood hero of mine and very exciting compared to Dave Swindlehurst who seemed to dominate the striker role in that era.

I recall a story that when he scored at the Gallstone the Brighton constabulary were after him regarding 'an incident in a chip shop'. Any body else remember that story? Also saw him in the Clifton Arms after a game he'd just played in having a pint and a fag. a true Palace hero. Wrexham still ranks up there with the best.

Rach the Smash. Skill and power and it all seemed so natural and casual What an amazing player. Like bolasie - except a bit better.

My all time favourite player always imagined him hating Brighton as much as I do. Happy Birthday Spider.

what a wonderful thread. I don't know how many times he got sent off playing for Palace : but i was sure he got sent off at Fulham one year-i don't think it was in the same game as Ian Evans got his leg broken-or was it? : or my memory could be playing tricks. A real maverick and so talented on his day! Happy Birthday :)

I have many great memories of Rash scoring some amazing goals, not least the two against Brighton in the First Round in 1976 at their place then ours, then again in the league game at Selhurst later the same season. But also a memory of him being badly fouled by Les Strong at Fulham, he got up and as Strong was walking away he kicked him right up his arse.

There is a great pic from Hy Money of Rash next to Best just after he broke our skipper's leg.
Rash has shared it on his FB with the caption "I swear, seconds later I had him by the throat. He broke my mate's leg"!
