View Full Version : Pre Season European Friendly?

palacepat_1
23-05-2016, 09:48 PM
Appreciate its not been long since the final to talk about next season, but with the other fixtures appearing at certain times. Is a European friendly all but off now with the USA tour?

Probably be a bit much to travel back and then set off again? Especially for one game? Or am I being too soft!

Apologies if there's already been another thread on this and I've missed it.

I vote for a return to Berlin that was superb despite the result but anywhere in Germany if we do this is acceptable.

Cheers Skate, even if SB or SP could just say 'yes' or 'no'.

As its either, attempt to heavily save for any game in the States or try and save for something in Europe!

As much as I loved Berlin, a change of scenery wouldn't hurt anyone eh!

I would think there is a decent chance of a home friendly, too, given that this is the first summer in a while where we haven't needed to do serious work to the pitch.

Somewhere in Northern France would be good, both Cabaye and Souare played for Lille so we have a kind of link to the area, and its only about an hour and 20 by Eurostar.

Every chance of a home game 6/7 August ie the week before the start.

Prefer a traditional pre-season without all these tours.

Players need to be working on fitness, not spending days travelling all over the globe.

Surely Spain would be a great choice for so many reasons.
Good competitive opposition can be arranged as compared to pointless opposition as we have seen before, at a location with many ex-pats to call on for support, also not far for home supporters to travel and take in an affordable holiday all at the same time, this should be an annual arrangement. What is there not to like.

As I understand it, their new ground arrangement has changed things. They now have to pay rent per game so there's now less appetite to stage home friendlies as a result. I'm not saying it definitely wouldn't be there, but my money is on not.

Was told by a friend that SB said no European game.

It's frustrating because I'm holding off booking a holiday abroad for it. Was told yesterday it's 100% not happening.

Why can't someone from the club say on here whether it's on or off then ? And date it will be ?
I know sky and bt and the FA don't care about the inconvenience they put fans through.

I don't expect it from our club for our fans though ?

I'd accepted it yesterday now I'm confused

Please can someone from the club let us know what's happening? I know the 4 owners are millionaires but I ain't .
I'm gonna be pissed off if I book up a holiday and then find out there's a Europe trip.

My interest in pre season depends upon the fixtures. I can take it or leave it. I would have like a European game but sadly it seems the commercial interests of going to America are greater. Shows that we are under a new much harder commercial management and regime at the club. We need to watch out for anything that shows we are customers and not fans. If it looks like there is no progress on redevelopment then those of us in the Arthur should be asking for whatever can be achieved to improve the conditions in the interim. Looks like there is no point in holding off holiday bookings.

Palace fans want the club to be competitive in the Premier League, correct?

If that's the case, then those who run the club need to ensure that every possible opportunity to raise funds is taken.

Palace have a following in the US. People who buy kits, membership and more. Strengthening that affinity, and growing it, is important to the club as it will ultimately allow that income to be spent on the club.

We get to see Palace play 40+ games in the UK. A three-game pre-season tour in the US isn't going to harm us.

Save that I'd insert the words "it is hoped that" between "that" and "there", that is my understanding.

This silly season thread is a hardy perennial every year, with people complaining that CPFC isn't dropping hints, and CPFC reluctant to say anything at all until it's 100% over the line (which is usually dependant on others).
