Is it possible to get to Watford on Boxing Day via public transport?

I think buses run a Sunday service on boxing day, other than that I don't think so.

you cant even get a service from southern fail on most normal days, what makes you think there will be one on boxing day!

Ryan_the_eagle

Think they normally run two an hour from East Croydon to Victoria. The tube normally runs too doesn't it?

There was no service on London Overground line on Boxing Day last year.

Paint it on the tube map. Run it like a train - TFL having their cake and eating it. Even the DLR runs on Boxing Day.

Looks like you'll be stuck with a long hike on the Met line. The walk is about equidistant from Watford Jnc.

deftones_eagle
27-09-2016, 07:11 AM
As long as the met line is running that's fine. Taxi to Euston from Catford and then jump on the met line. I very much doubt the London Overground will be running.

scro
27-09-2016, 08:13 AM
I hadn't really considered the trains not running but i assume there will be some from Euston to watford junction? An alternative presumably to going all the way on the met?

28-09-2016, 08:21 AM
Going by what happened on Boxing Day last year there won't be any London Overground or London Midland trains, so Watford Junction and Watford High Street will be closed. The tube will probably operate a Sunday service to Watford underground station (Metropolitan line) about a mile from the ground.
Thameslink and South West Trains won't run any trains. Southeastern will probably only run the High Speed services into St Pancras from Ashford.
Southern are running hourly Brighton-Haywards Heath-Gatwick Airport-East Croydon-Clapham Junction-Victoria, half-hourly Sutton-Carshalton Beeches-Walington-Waddon-West Croydon-Selhurst-Thornton Heath-Norbury-Streatham Common-Wandsworth Common-Clapham Junction-Battersea Park-Victoria and half-hourly East Croydon-Selhurst-Thornton Heath-Norbury-Streatham Common-Wandsworth Common-Clapham Junction-Battersea Park-Victoria. Don't know why Balham isn't there. All these probably won't run until late in the evening - last trains around 20:00 or so I expect.
Gatwick Express will run half-hourly Gatwick Airport-East Croydon-Victoria.

Is it possible to get to Watford on Boxing Day via public transport?
No Boxing Day service from Euston to Watford Junction on London Midland, Virgin Trains or London Overground.

Watford Station (Metropolitan line) is about a 20 min walk north of the ground with trains every 15 mins and take about 45 mins into London.

Bakerloo line will only go as far as Stonebridge Park with no connecting services all stations to Watford High Street or Watford Junction on London Overground for Boxing Day.
Alternative is to get a 142 bus every 15 mins from Stanmore (Jubilee line) with journey time about 22 mins or a 258 bus every 30 mins from Harrow on the Hill (Metropolitan line) with journey time of about 35 mins to St Mary's Road, Watford (10 mins walk). Return services starts from Watford Junction and pick up at Water Lane on the ring road and Watford High Street Station.

There is no service on the southern section of the Circle line between Aldgate and Gloucester Road and no service on the District line beyond Gloucester Road to or from Wimbledon, Richmond or Acton.

Southern will operate hourly services from Brighton and 1/2 hourly services from East Croydon and Sutton stopping all stations to Victoria. No Southern or London Overground service via Clapham Junction to Watford Junction. Gatwick Express will run 1/2 hourly service between Gatwick and Victoria with additional stops at East Croydon.

Palace did it (put junior prices for away fans up 4 from last seasons prices) for the opening home game against WBA, but quickly did a U-turn when WBA made a fuss to the FSF. Hull prices are the real scandal.

I think Hull was more of a scandal before, when they'd charge fans like us 16 but fans of Man City, Spurs etc 56. It worked out better for us obviously, but it's not exactly fair.

I know most away grounds used to sell the block in the corner first.
But this can't be the case here,,,, right?

I take it after being on sale for a week that they sold VRS2 first and it is sold out now. Yes/No?

I bought ours within the first few days and got VRS1, so presumably they're just selling slowly due to our horrendous form.

Sometimes the block/seats they show aren't your actual seats though - just a 'dummy' number - so it could always be that.

Pitch level anywhere is near on pointless unless you like having no perspective on the action whatsoever. You can just about get away with it pitch side on the halfway line but it's still massively compromised.

I was in the front row pitchside when we were in the playoffs in 06 and we're given the lower tier of the stand to the right of the away end. Way, way below pitch level. I was young at the time but could barely see on to the pitch.

Parking at the hospital is more expensive now. 2-3 hours is 6, 3-4 8.

Make sure you are not in a staff only car park.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a new entrance to the car park.

Follow the signs to Watford general. Where you used to turn left then immediately right you now go straight on instead of right. You then turn right further on (new road). Cash or you can also use pay by phone.

Walk towards the main entrance but then carry on down that road to Watford FC.

More tickets just loaded on the site by the looks of it. Just had 2 tickets in my basket but decided to watch it on the telly instead, doing Arsenal and Bolton already and I'm skint.

Now officially announced as sold out.

http://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/ticket-information-for-the-boxing-day-match-at-vicarage-road.-3427132.aspx

Just bought two tickets and had the option of two blocks, so it's definitely not!

Does anyone know where the Away Box Office is at Watford that I'll need to go to in order to collect my tickets?

BFS has returned the tickets for both his cheeks.

Watford currently reinforcing the away dug out. Out go the Recaro seats. In comes a Juicy fruit consession.

Multi story car park on the road between Watford junction station and town centre usually has plenty of spaces .

I'd appreciate any recommendations for parking. A 'safe' area/walk as got an 8 year old with us.

An 8 year old would probably have the Watford firm on their toes.
