Anyone remember this game? After the goal glut of September/October our form had tailed off badly following a 3-0 Thumping of QPR at Selhurst infront of the SKY Cameras on Rememberance Sunday,we were 6 games without a win going into this game,Thankfully a late volley from Niel Shipperley which squirmed through the hands of a fishy sounding Clown keeper by the name of Mike Salmon was enough to secure the win & send us into Christmas in good spirits :p

Unfortunately it was to be our only league victory until a winner from Hoppo secured victory in the reverse clash with QPR at Loftus Road on February 1st! This near 3 month midwinter spell of just 1 win put paid to any hopes of keeping up with Bolton in the hunt for automatic promotion,it also no doubt sowed the seeds of Bassetts departure to Nottingham Forest in late February 1997 & Sir Steve's Ultimate return & ultimately playoff success.:lux:

I do wonder though, how things would've panned out with Bassett,if that poor spell didn't happen,we kept pace with Bolton,Bassett stayed & we won automatic promotion??

It's an interesting thought, that Alternative reality,As opposed to what REALLY happened in 97-98!

Also,it was to be another 12 YEARS!! Before we beat the Clowns again! At Selhurst! A Craig Beattie goal in 2008 securing our 1st home win over them since the aforementioned game, hard to believe now isn't it!?

Don't remember too much about the game, but sure it was a last minute goal and came from a shocking error from the clowntown keeper. It had come off a poor week for us, where Houghton/Muscat had been sent off at Norwich in game which saw a few flash points followed by a dire midweek performance at home to Sheffield United (Who beat us twice in the league that year) but we know how that finished. :p

Think this is when Nash came back into the team, and he played a blinder at Loftus Road! Day's confidence was shot to pieces, and his error at Southend which cost us the defeat (running from his goal line getting nowhere near the ball to leave an open net was shocking) and Harry had no choice but to drop him. It was a strange team, offensively a joy to watch at times, where on other occasions we played like strangers.

Was this the Lee Bowyer game? After he was done for puff.

There he goes he's up again,
The tackles just keep flying in,
We'll kick him up into the sky.
We'll keep Lee Bowyer flying high!

:-)

He got booked for giving us the :jerkit: signer!!

No Bowyer had departed Charlton for Leeds by then. Think the game you were referring to was the match at Selhurst in August 95' (which saw the Holmesdale stand unveiled) I'd forgotten about Bowyer failing a routing drug test, and did a quick google on it, but it came up with this for December 96'

Fined 4500 after admitting to throwing chairs across a McDonald's restaurant after drinking with friends. Keith Grant, the magistrate, says he nearly jailed Bowyer for his part in the incident. 'This was a disgraceful incident,' he says. 'It took place in a public place. People were put in fear.' A Leeds spokesman states that Bowyer had shown 'true contrition' for the crime.

I was there, we were poor and Salmon literally dived over the ball, thankfully we've risen and the clowns have dropped like a stone WTFILN!

A young Lee Bowyer was kicked off the pitch if I remember correctly in the play off semi.
