Train tickets are around 18 at the moment, but not sure if its worth risking getting them this far in advanced if the fixture will change

Train tickets booked. 21 return from Caterham

Up on the Friday night after work, back Saturday evening with a few cans on the train.

Think this will be my fifth visit to the Hawthorns. Never seen us win there but looking forward to it nevertheless.

Very reasonable pricing all round that weekend. For flights, 2 nights hotel and car hire for me and my son, the total shouldn't exceed GBP 500 for the weekend, which is one of the better deals.

First away game that my son will have been to - can't wait, especially after last night's win.

They've still got blocks a6 and a3 to sell (these have not been released) and of course the other four blocks have still not sold out as yet. I should think you would be fine to wait till Monday, just keep an eye on the ticket site every day.

pgw152
04-02-2017, 09:31 AM
Very easy.Worst case scenario is 15 mins train to New St then 5 min walk over to Moor St for train to Hawthorns.
There are buses too and come to think of it you can probably go BhX direct to Sandwell and Dudley / Smethwick Galton Bridge and do a longer walk from those or further train/bus

Usually the cheapest possible trip 9.99 e/w flights + baggies charge the least for match tickets

Ye, you'll comfortably make the 20:00 return flight.
Last time there (3-3, Dirty Dawson), I walked from the ground to New St. Took 65 mins although the Handsworth bit probably spurred me on to a fast pace, don't hang around there after dark if you can avoid it!

Edit: Just hearing about this new tram from New St/Grand Central to Hawthorns, that's your man right there. You can admire Handsworth from the safety of the tram

Edit: I was curious to see if Smethwick Galton Bridge was still a good option, and it is, just a 20 minute train direct from BHX to Smethwick Galton Bridge and walk 20 mins from there. That direct one is only once an hour though, so make sure you don't miss the 1822 on the way back if doing it that way

A big tip coming home. as most of you will be going by tram or train south towards Birmingham DON'T queue in the black line as this merges with the home crowd green line and most of them are going north towards West Brom. Take the red past the station go through the green queue and go into the left entrance to the station by the ticket office. this will take you over the railway line and south bound by train or tram. There is still a queue but nowhere near as bad.

Trains and trams at The Hawthorns have separate entrances.Sometimes they can get arsey and not let you transfer across.

Another tip is that you can get a group day ticket for up to 5 adults on the trams for 10 rather than 4.50 each.
Also trams now run from Grand Central Tram terminus which is alongside New Street Station and no longer go into Snow Hill but now stop at nearby Bull Street.

Any idea what sort of queue there will be for the tram? I'll be leaving bang on full-time (if not slightly earlier depending on stoppage time) and jogging to the station as I (somewhat stupidly) booked a train at 17:30 from New Street so need to be on the 17:05 tram.

As for access to tram I'm pretty sure you can only access it from the train station and not the tram access.

Usually they do not let you get across from station entrance for trams. Turn left out of stand and go down slope, turn right into Middlemore Road. After about 250 yards Path entrance to trams is just before you cross the railway bridge or continue for train entrance.
Trams are at 58/06/14/22 mins and take 15 mins to Birmingham
Is about an 8 min brisk walk/jog so if you leave when injury time board goes up you might get earlier tram but should be okay for 06 tram as most baggies go the other way but they will come from opposite side path.

Trains are at 56/07/19/26 and take 7 mins to Snow Hill

As Brumie Allan says for Birmingham trains keep left and avoid queue on right side of station entrance

Unless they have changed system they block transfers both ways between train and tram on match days only so they can do ticket checks on slope path down.

Palace fans will be housed in the Smethwick End of the ground, getting blocks A1-A6 detailed on this map:

http://www.soccerticketsonline.com/wp-content/uploads/TheHawthorns.png

Selling procedure means tickets are sold from A1/A4 across towards the sterile area to the end of A3/A6. A1-A5 have been sold out. The only block available for sale is block A6 which is the front right block of the picture below as of a few days ago:

http://i3.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article7964578.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/Hillsborough-tribute-at-Hawthorns.jpg

All other tickets have been sold. I imagine a fair few of the A6 tickets have already been sold, row O is currently for sale. The capacity of the away end is around 3000. This means we must be close to 2500, which I believe would beat last season's following.

If anybody else wants to join, tickets are still available for 25 adult and train tickets return from London as cheap as 29.50 any Chiltern train. So ticket and travel for 55. That used to be the price for a Chelsea away ticket. But it's more fun.

In the old days the other side of the smethwick end was the away end.

Maybe because it's a craphole that everyone has been to loads of times before.

Anyway, how many games do we sell out? Not many.

London games plus sometimes Saints, West Brom and Stoke only.

This is the lame though and let's be honest The Hawthorns is far less of a crap hole than Selhurst. It also offers cheap tickets with cheap transport.

Truth is that people who no doubt all arse licked Pardew for 12 months of failure now don't have the stomach for a relegation battle.

Personally go to follow the Palace to as many games as possible so the opposition is irrelevant. What comes into it for me is affordability, importance of game, other committments, kick off time etc. and a 3pm Saturday ko at a vital stage of the season, relatively cheap train and match tickets made it an easy decision for me, but each their own and all that.

Just forked out over a grand on season tickets, so shame on me, but I'll give it a miss. But to be honest even if I had the cash the very thought of WBA's high balls into the box with Hennessey in goal sends shivers.

Well done you, I am sure the bloke who sits next to you is delighted he will continue to experience your positive outlook for another season :p

Apart from the stewards taking my sons flag at the turnstiles. Away fans aren't permitted to bring a ******* flag in now!

Saw this! Ridiculous

My old man got told off by a steward for "looking at the home fans" haha got told to "keep his eyes on the game"...did this as we had a corner so technically he was watching the game haha think the steward ended up offering him out by the end of the game haha :jerkit:

Always a good ground to go to. My only gripe is at the end of the game they lock the gates around the ground sending Away fans down a path away from the ground, from which I had to walk all the way back to the ground to get my car. Small beer I guess as I was ecstatic we had won.

I think you must've been right behind my boys and me, 4th row 2nd block along. Couldn't believe it when the steward had a go.

Also 'wake up steward' was a highlight :S: :lux::lux:

Loved the banter with the Baggies fans down by the corner flag, especially the guy in the Millwall t-shirt, Sheffield Utd hat and WBA jacket.

"You're smoking crack in the morning!"

Because we were so late coming out, I waited for them to open that ridiculous gate, which they did after about 10 minutes. Had a nice cup of Hawthorns tea while I waited.

Ah, I should've done that. I went for the snaky path and then the cut through a pretty beautiful estate to get back to the car. But after a win, it's easier:)

It was the quickest I have got on the train after a league game. I didn't get out of the ground until 5:00 but was on the train into Birmingham 20 minutes later.

Brumie Allan's guides were a huge help.I left the ground just after 5 to 5 and was 3 minutes away from getting the half 5 train back up north.

Also did anyone see the HF just outside new street next to the guy with his guitar? Was very funny walking up to that wondering what was going on.
