Yep. Not holding out much hope for my mob:frown:

Still looking forward to the season starting as it should be good to see how the Saints and Dees have improved, Buckley getting the sack, the Dogs being the hunted and not the hunters and Richmonds habitual fail so I can remind all my Tigers mates that 4 players don't make a team.

But then again, the bookies are quite generous to offer only 14.5 line against Blues first round. Should be winning by 5+ goals ;)

Gonna be taking this multi for Round 1: Tigers x Swans x Suns x Cats @ $3.50

Fair points you've made but they really didn't work hard defensively through the midfield and their fwd pressure was pretty ordinary.

It has been suggested that Ross Lyon is trying to fast track his way to Collingwood.

Hinckley better keep looking over his shoulder,

Bones14
03-04-2017, 02:09 AM
The style of footy Ross the Boss plays is so outdated and getting shown up for what it really is, TRIPE.
Hinkley will be sleeping a little better at present, and the Power seem to have their mojo back again.
Some serious questions being asked of Eade, Lyon, Buckley and Hinkley. Right now though Hinkley is the only one answering them.
Eade is on borrowed time as there is clearly problems up at the Suns. Lyon has never developed kids so realistically you'd have to think that they're not going to improve a lot under him other than natural progression. Buckley has been a little stiff with his forwards inability to put scoreboard pressure on opponents, but in saying that they still look shallow at both ends of the ground in terms of quality.

A good time to bottom out and tank 2004 bringing in 3 generational foundation players in one swoop.

I see self-proclaimed MRP "expert" Mark Stevens is expecting Ziebell to get a forced rest.

kayjay
14-04-2017, 09:34 PM
If Ziebell goes for the bump on Cloke without making contact to the head,
we will need to replace goalposts at each end of the ground with nets hanging
from metal rings attached to 9 foot poles and exchange shorts for skirts.

It has gotten to the point where teams just have to accept the free against, it's better than trying to keep the ball in play and give up a quick turnover by kicking it straight to an opponent.
At least with these plays a team has the chance to regroup and man up while the opposition retrieves the footy.

The well executed grubber down the line to relieve pressure and result in a boundary throw-in is now extinct.

Agree to a point.
That one was ridiculous though. Can't remember who it was, but he had a player (opposition) competing right next to him, he was under pressure and on the wing. And had a player (teammate) in the vicinity (2metres). Poor execution by the said player, but poor interpretation of the rule IMO.

The Ruck rule is a ****en joke as well. It's becoming so sterile this great game of ours.

Callum Sinclair's one was harsh on Thursday, poor old ruckman should be given the benefit of the doubt, his was a skills issue.

How about Kersten's this afternoon? Final moments, he's 70 out, nobody in the goalsquare, he "sets sail for home", missed the goals and dribbled over the boundary line, "Deliberate!"

Leigh disagrees. (http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/north-melbourne-v-western-bulldogs-jack-ziebell-in-trouble-for-travis-cloke-hit-20170415-gvlhk8.html)

AFL great Leigh Matthews says he would be surprised if North Melbourne skipper Jack Ziebell was not suspended for the heavy hit that left an injured Travis Cloke facing up to six weeks on the sidelines.

Cloke, in his 250th game, was sent to hospital after the Dogs' three-point win on Friday night after Ziebell's elevated bump had the Bulldogs' forward in pain with broken ribs.

Matthews, known for his unflinching play during his grand career, said Ziebell would face a penalty.

"When you are approaching a guy who is about to kick the ball, the idea is normally you are trying to smother the kick but Jack Ziebell didn't try and smother the kick," he said on 3AW.

The Ruck rule is a ****en joke as well. It's becoming so sterile this great game of ours.

Anthony Hudson, Mark Robinson, Scott Lucas, Terry Wallace giving the AFL till Wednesday afternoon to do away with the nominating rule. As long as one player from each team contests the ruck duel that's fine. The umpires needing to know in advance should be put back on the primary school playground.

When doing away with the 3rd man up, the AFL didn't pay due attention to how many ways the rule could be exploited by the coaches.

Motlop is either brilliant or shithouse, never an in between with him. Tried trading him and nobody wanted him, says it all really.

Cockatoo has his moments and yesterday wasn't great. He's a resilient little bugger and I'd give him some time to develop some more.

Parfitt is a great find for us and exactly what was needed. Composed a player at his age as you'll see.

Bones14

He's not "deadwood", he's just a complete head **** as you never know what you're going to get. The trade was due to his erratic behaviour, inconsistent performances and total attitude toward all of the above.

He's certainly the most frustrating player wearing the hoops in the last 5-10 years that's for sure. Mackie the same.
Bottom line is you can't have 22 champions every week, and there's no chance of having 22 champions in your club either. Every week it's a toss of the coin, sometimes you're kicking with a 3-6 goal wind, other weeks you're kicking into it.
Every clubs got them.

When you're losing the hitouts Oz you don't start running forward of the footy. They needed to block the exits and have a man each in those conditions. Seriously kids stuff that.

Ball was over the other side for a long period, similar to the Pendlebury one a few weeks ago. Hence why Viney was stranded.

Jones was pathetic to be honest. Those conditions should suit him, but you're correct, he looked very old and very slow.

Speaking of players who look cooked, there's 3 of them at the Swans - Kennedy, Hannebury and to a lesser extent Parker. Throw in Grundy and the beyond useless Tippett and they have massive issues.

Everyone seems to think Sydney will be OK going forward, which they could well be, but if their senior players don't perform and they get beaten most weeks, it will retard the development of their kids.

In short, they're not as far in front of Hawthorn as everyone thinks and could be in for some barren years.

Brisbane on the other hand, wow, they're scary good. Keeping all their kids will again be their biggest problem in the next few years. Having a coach who clearly knows what he's doing will be a massive help.

We lack pace, and talls down back. Rampe breaking his arm was a big loss. Agree about Tippett. I believe he is at the end of his 5 year contract this year, he can go play out his last few years at Brisbane for McCluggage!

I dunno Bung. I reckon Sydney are a fair way in front of Hawthorn as of now. Mills, Heeney, Alir, Hayward etc are all young and very good. Hanneberry is 26, Parker 23/4 I think. Agree about Kennedy, though (he looks lost like Scott Dann with the captaincy). He is super tough but the speed and spread of the game has gone up another notch this year.
Hawthorn with Hodge, Burgoyne, Gibson all coming to the end and not a lot coming
through. Hartung is average, Sicily is decent or deplorable and the rest of the youngsters have barely played due to the amazing success they've had. Mitchell has been good, O'Meara unsighted and Roughead, Rioli, Gunstan and Breust have barely scratched the surface of the ability that they have.
Sydney IMO will bounce back quicker than the Hawks.

The other locations were great as well though have no intention of ever setting foot in Albania again. The yacht was put under house arrest by the authorities for breaking some bent rule. Had to sit it out while docked for 12 hours without setting foot on land. The fine was only $100 which isn't bad considering the joint is run by the Russian mafia.

The bloke who doesn't know what he's doing and the worst forward in the game
kicks 5 goals v Port Adelaide last night.
Sure Garry Lyon bagged 5 or more goals over a dozen times but did he ever lead the competition in intercept marks?
Did he ever lead the league in anything?
Today he leads the media in attacking soft targets.

Cale Hooker was offered big money deals to leave the Bombers
in the face of his 12 month ban, but signs on for 5 years.
Worse than shagging your best mates missus, playing the depression card as a defence.

The only real similarity I can find between Lyon and Hooker and their playing careers is that at no stage were either of them the best 2 forwards in their team.

oz_da II

What year did the AFL start tracking intercept marks?

I would have Lyon as the Demons' best forward in:

1994, 1995 (lead the team in goal kicking)

Top two in:

1993, 1999

Two B&F's (1990 & 1994)

Captained Victoria and played ten state games.

What does Hooker's contract have to do with Lyon's mental health problems of the past?

Intercept marks have been a thing for at least 5 years.
Often revealed when All-Australian defender debate comes around.

Darren Bennett, Allen Jakovich, David Schwartz, David Neitz, Jeff Farmer all better than Lyon, although i'll give you 1995. Shit, even Greg Healy and
Ricky Jackson won goalkickings at Melbourne.

You don't have to be the best player to captain your state, you get it by default if your the only club captain in the squad.

If offered both players I would seriously only entertain one of them, and it wouldn't be Cale Hooker.

Only Bennett (87) and Neitz (81) topped Lyon's 79 goals for a season, 77 for Lyon the following season.

Schwartz better? No (1.4 goals/game)

I noticed I couldn't read someone's retweet on their team selections

Someone in their media department must go around looking for "criticism" and blocking people. Pathetic. :clown:

I wasn't going to tweet anything.
Someone I followed retweeted what I assume is Geelong's team selection but it comes up as "Tweet unavailable" for me.

I have been known to tweet my in-game displeasure at Selwood's love affair with actively collecting head high contact...

Am I being a bit insensitive asking we question how mental anguish... sorry...depression is the flavour of the day with AFL footballers???
They used to use it as a thin veiled excuse to cover failed drug tests - now they plead it if they're having a bad run of forrm.

Pendles, Sidebottom & Treloar combine for 103 disposals
and effect the scoreboard in this manner:-

0.0.0.

If you've got no forward line, your mids have to go forward and hit the scoreboard.

Poor coaching.

But then Bucks invented the easy handball receive out the back to lift his stats.

****en disgraceful decision. He knew exactly what he was doing. Should've been given 6 down to 5 or 5 down to 4. Knocks a bloke out with a rogue action and gets 2 weeks FFS.
There's been shitty little jumper punches that have zero effect and players are getting 1 week. He gets 1 more than them and knocks him out before he hits the ground.
I give up with this system, it's flawed beyond belief.

Patton takes a mark in the 22nd minute of the fourth quarter (7 mins to go), kicks his fourth goal of the game to level the scores. From inside the Giant's attacking 50 he sprints off the ground for a rotation.

For the next 4-5 minutes of play the footy is on the other side of the ground and Patton can't get back onto the ground.

Modern footy madness...

Listening to dal Santo on the radio this morning talking about rotations for forwards, "I've heard Nick Riewoldt telling the runner 'what to do with himself' in a similar situation when told to come off."

Patton should have done the same.

Sport science people trying to maintain their relevance in the game.

25 points up early in the last Q to blow another one.
Weak as water.

Hartley, Hurley and Kelly take 4 marks between them.
McStay, Andrews and Mayes take 30.

Me thinks the supposed Richmond Army is in for one hell of a shock on Saturday when 30K plus Adelaide fans turn up.

30K away fans in our football terms is probably equal to 50K home fans.

I reckon the MCG could actually be Adelade centric on Saturday. I do realise only 17K or so Adelaide fans can actually get in.

I've been to Adelaide quite a few times with MV and the locals are probably the closest thing to UK type supporters you'll get in Aus. They may even have the gumption to chant like a proper football crowd.

It's going to be an interesting finals day.

Cmon the Crows.
Mr I never get suspended for anything better not lift that cup up by 5pm otherwise I'm going to be seriously pissed off.
Jerker Jenkins is the biggest downside to the Crows winning, but I'll cope with that seeing they're 800+ km away.
Crows by a point please after the siren so as I can watch all the wanker army cry in the 'yellow and black' scarves.
Do the game proud Adelaide and shove it up the AFL commission.
